Am I the only person in the world who hates Spongebob?

I don’t hate it, but I don’t really like it. Occasionally can deal with it (like I couldn’t even put on Barney for my little one), but I’d watch just about anything else age-appropriate before it.

And I love cartoons. As an adult I used to watch Saturday morning cartoons, back when there was such a thing. I still watch Phineas and Ferb sans children. My username is from My Little Pony. Spongebob just can’t do it for me.

I always liked Spongebob, but I have always watched it in Dutch. In my opinion the voices are done way better than the English voices. I wish there was an easy way to show you.

I was born in the 70’s and love the first 3 seasons of Spongebob. I like wacky humor. To me it’s not so different from Fawlty Towers or Ren & Stimpy.

My sister is the only person I know that should like Spongebob but does not. She doesn’t like wacky comedies though.

In the circles I run in, it is Caillou and Max and Ruby that inspire near violence in the parents including me. Many kids love those shows for some inexplicable reason but they are like Chinese water torture to adults. I don’t want to point fingers but it is a fact that both are those shows are Canadian. I don’t know if they even watch them at all in Canada or if they are just cultural weapons produced specifically to drive American parents insane in that passive aggressive kind of way.

Not true at all! Why, we only produce such wholesome fare as Anne of Green Gables, Babar and Adventures in Rainbow Country! Why, to suggest we’d do anything that cruel would imply that we’d want to seek revenge for introducing us to things like the Burger King mascot and Honey Boo Boo. We’d never do that…much.

Here’s the best quality example I can find. Sure, it’s a webcam recording and has been reversed, but at least you can hear the voices (after they turn up the volume less than a minute in), and the whole thing has not been sped up. Only Patrick seems to sound the same (part of the time), though, based on the intro, I bet Mr Crabbs also sounds the same.

The reason the early seasons were better:

Series creator Stephen Hillenburg has served as the executive producer over the course of the series’ entire history, and functioned as the showrunner from the series’ debut in 1999 until 2004. The series went on hiatus, as Hillenburg halted production in 2002 to work on the film adaptation of the series, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. Once the film was finalized and the third season finished, Hillenburg resigned as the series’ showrunner. He no longer writes or runs the show on a day-to-day basis, but reviews each episode and delivers suggestions. He said, “I figure when I’m pretty old, I can still paint … I don’t know about running shows”.

When the film was completed, Hillenburg wanted to end the series “so [it] wouldn’t jump the shark.” However, Nickelodeon wanted more episodes,

I think it’s still pretty good. But yeah, the first three seasons were the best. Do you guys who hate Spongebob like Pee Wee Herman? I find Spongebob great for similar reasons I love Pee Wee.
