At any rate, I happened across some websites with lots of amateur porn.
Am I the only person to notice that these people have the worst furniture on earth? Goodwill wouldn’t take that crap…brown and gold plaid sofas, with orange curtains and fake African wildlife fur bedspreads.
Is it mandatory to have bad taste in interior decorating to have the urge to grab a camera and show your stuff?
Has anybody else, um, writing the same term paper, noticed this?
Maybe those porno sites you like to frequent feature sets from a different decade? Also, I think that most amateur porn stars (like the ones that you like to look at) are probably poor.
There’s a Web site that specializes in that exact topic. Two gay guys have cropped out the nudity in screen shots from amateur porn and then comment cattily on the Gawdawful interior decor. They have also relased a book filled with material from the site. Even though there is no nudity or links to anything bad, I hesitate to link directly to the site lest the mods get all Puritan on me. Just Google “obscene” and “interiors” and the site should come up. You can buy the book at Amazon.
No, but IMO few porn-makers have any sort of artistic or aesthetic training, and simply don’t care very much about the background.
Maybe I’m incorrect on this, but it sounds as though some of the web sites mentioned by the OP are for vintage porn of the '70s, in which there is indeed a lot of that kind of decoration on display. If it’s more recent, well, it’s amateur; that is, the locations are not sets but the actual rooms of people’s actual houses.
Hell, the house of my late grandmother in Eastern Ohio looked just like what the OP is talking about, and I’m fairly certain no porn was ever filmed there. I suspect that these types of furnishings are fairly common everywhere. See the photos of Diane Arbus for plenty of examples in support of this notion.
I thought 70’s colors were coming back in a big way, weren’t they? Well, orange at least, and possibly olive, as well as the browns. It’s not gawdawful; it’s retro, doncha know! :rolleyes:
Maybe it’s becaues I’m indifferent to amateur porn vs. porn star porn (Is there a word for that), but I’ve noticed almost the opposite. Seems like most of the porn I watch has a couch or bed with white sheets, and guys who (tackily) still wear wristwatches and (sometimes) socks.
Socks I can live with, but take off the damn watches.
True story: A buddy of mine goes out of town for a couple of weeks, and get’s another friend to watch his place while he’s gone. When he gets back he finds an answering machine message that someone had left. It seems that his friend had been shooting low-budget pornos in the place while the guy had been gone. The message on the answering machine was from one of the “actresses” who’d apparently been paid with drugs and was calling in hopes of being able to turn in a repeat performance. Needless to say, he was not amused.
Yes but the realevent question is : What did your friend’s furniture look like??? Did they, perhaps, target his particular apartment due to the presence of his brown and gold plaid sofa???
I suspect his giant screen TV had more to do with it than anything else. The apartment looks like a freaking dorm room, except that the furnishings (black leather couch, carpet, mixing studio, etc.) are better than you’d find in most dorms.
Oddly enough, many of the people involved with making porn are not the most trustworthy of citizens.
The socks are kept on because porn actors place their cash into them prior to filming. Otherwise it tends to be gone from their wallet or purse when filming is done. Same thing with watches – if they are left with their other clothes during filming, they too may not be there afterwards.
If you think amateur porn stars are poor, consider what the film crew is paid!
