I was wondering if we would have any traditional NELs this season, or just the TBC legs. I guess this answers the question.
Taxi Assessment:
Stuck in the Desert and Officially Detained - or, Philiminated with extreme prejudice.
Amanda & Kris and Mel & Mike and Jaime & Cara and Margie & Luke and Ron & Christina - Already eliminated.
Flat Tire - or, not likely to get anywhere soon.
No one.
Stopping for Gas - or, not broken-down, exactly, but not a good sign.
Kent & Vyxsin (holding steady) - Kent & Vyxsin rate a surprising third place, in part because they were one of the teams who opted not to ride the Ferris wheel. But they’re also the only team that apparently didn’t know what the dolly was for (although I have to say that that couch must have been awfully light if Kent, of all people, could carry it a full mile and only feel the need to whine once every 150 feet or so). And Kent & Vyxsin seem to be the only team left that’s actively bickering. I have a hard time believing this team can make it to the final three.
"Rapido! Por Favor?" - or, making meaningless ineffectual comments from the back seat, but in no immediate danger.
Flight Time & Big Easy (holding steady) - Maybe I should bump the Globetrotters up–they were in the lead for a large portion of the leg, after a first-place finish last week. That’s great, but, considering the earlier portions of the Race, not yet consistent. Still, a well-run leg from them, and just bad luck that Zev & Justin came on strong in the end.
Gary & Mallory (down from “Cruisin’”) - A bad start to the leg for Gary & Mallory when they couldn’t figure out the message in the backup cam, and then doing both legs of the Detour sealed it. I guess there should be another TAR rule: when a Detour option is labelled “quick” or “easy,” it’s a lie. Anyway, Gary & Mallory get a NEL reprieve, but will have to do both Detour legs next week against pretty stiff competition. Lucky for them, there’s still a chance that Kent & Vyxsin will flame out, or the cowboys will take the wrong flight.
In the Passing Lane - or, ahead of the pack, but not quite comfortably.
Kisha & Jen (holding steady) - Kisha & Jen, once again never really in danger of elimination, but not competing for first place, either. They would have done better had they chosen the right Detour option initially, but two other tams can say that.
Zev & Justin (holding steady) - Zev & Justin land in first place despite doing both Detour options. I guess they must have had awesome driving and navigating skills–note that they passed the ultimate fifth-place team, Jet & Cord, on the way to the Roadblock, and wound up only slightly behind the Globetrotters. Note, however, that Zev was concerned about exactly what I mentioned last week: having to perform the Roadblock on his own. He did OK this episode (because, really, who could possibly screw up that Roadblock now thatRon is gone?), but he’ll still have to do a couple more in the future.
Jet & Cord (down from “Cruisin’”) - Generally, the cowboy’s logic in taking the flight with fewer connections is sound. However, once they realized that the rest of the teams were booked on the earlier flight, they really should have switched: the potential to be ahead of everyone else is worth a whole lot less than the risk of being behind everyone else. A bad move on the cowboy’s part, and once again they’re lucky the rest of the leg went well for them, and other people made mistakes.
Cruisin’ with Earl - or, drivin’ on the shoulder, takin’ shortcuts, and generally kickin’ butt.
No one.
