I think it might be Jaime doing all the complaining. Cara (from what little I can tell them apart, or bother trying to) might be okay. I’ll have to watch for that in the last episode.
As a six or so year veteran of the Hawaiian tourist industry, I heard that and cheered! At the risk of sounding vicious, I hope Jaime makes the mistake of forgetting Hawaii’s a state or, better yet, part of America, and gets a driver with a good, thick, pidgin accent and a nice, take-it-easy attitude.
The gentleman was lamenting last night that he doesn’t like any of the teams left. I don’t find Tammy and Victor too bad, but I missed the first half hour of the show on Sunday, so I didn’t see the business in Tiananmen Square. Margie, Luke, and Jaime, though, can go jump in a lake as far as I’m concerned. Cara does seem like she’s been trying to calm Jaime down, but not successfully. Part of me thinks that being on The Amazing Race may have sabotaged Jaime’s dating career, but then I realized I know a few too many men who share her views of foreigners.
From what I’ve seen when they’ve shown the clues, place names are also written in the local language as well as English. I’ve seen place names written in Chinese this race and I’ve seen racers showing their clues to cab drivers, so I don’t think that’s it. On the other hand, I could see a cab driver looking at a couple with a gnome, a couple of backpacks, and a technician or two and thinking, “No, there are easier fares out there.”
I think Margie is the only respectable personality out there. The only time we’ve seen her with any kind of attitude is when she was trying to protect her (adult) son who has the emotional maturity of a 5-year old (mothering instinct), and when he was making her look like Alice Cooper with the makeup. I cut her some slack for those. Otherwise, the bitch kicks ass and takes names. I give her major props.
With the possible exception of Tammy, the other racers all irritate me. I think Tammy and Margie should form their own winning team.
ETA: The ‘lack of gag reflex’ think with Cara cracked me up. See honey? It comes in handy for other things, too!
I am not really sure why there is so much Victor hate, although maybe hate is a strong word…dislike might be better. Is he the nicest guy in the world? Certainly doesn’t seem to be to his sister, but sibling relationships can be complicated. I have not seen him be rude to others, he seems to be racing very well with his sister. Yes he is controlling and jerkish toward his sister, at times, but he also seems to be pretty self aware of his bad behaviour. Of all the teams I think Tammy and Victor make a fine team. They are not the most entertaining or the most dyamic team ever, so I am not heavily invested in their success. But if they win I think they will deserve it, for sure.
Victor is a whiner. So’s Luke. I can’t stand whiners.
In previous seasons, wasn’t there a rule about partners having to perform a relatively equal number of roadblocks? Luke has only done 3 that I can remember.
I feel like Tammy and Victor have mellowed out the longer they’ve stayed in the Race, whereas Margie/Luke and Cara/Jaime are really showing their fatigue. This gives me hope for them winning the whole thing. Ideally, I’d like to see Tammy and Cara win $1M.
I have some limited memories about the massacre at Tiananmen Square, having been relatively young, but I sure know what happened there. Other than Tammy and Victor, the only person I noticed making any connection to the name was Margie. Luke may have recognized it, but there’s no way to tell. It seemed completely foreign to Cara and Jamie, and it didn’t seem like Kisha and Jen recognized it either. Pretty sad.
I missed the entire first half of the season, so it is interesting to see how some of my impressions differ from most of the other posters here.
