Amazing Race AND The Mole coming soon to DVD!!!

Looks like it’s going to be a great year for the only two reality shows worth watching. First up, TVShowsonDVD.com has new information about The Amazing Race - Season One:

We’ve received word from some retail sources that the first season will be released on June 7th. The show, soon entering its 7th season, has scored high numbers for CBS, and earned them a few Emmy Awards in the “Outstanding Reality-Competition Program” category. The show follows teams as they travel around the world, competing for $1,000,000.

Please keep in mind that this title hasn’t been officially announced by Paramount, and the June 7th date may change. Please treat this as a probable date until Paramount confirms the release with an announcement (probably in a month or so).

While not set in stone, this looks very, VERY promising. TAR7 will finish in early June, and the controversial “Family TAR” won’t start filming until summer, so June sounds like the perfect timing to start releasing past seasons on DVD. No info on the other seasons, but hopefully if enough people buy the first set, they will follow soon!

MOLE!!! Loved that show. Now everytime I see Anderson Cooper on CNN I think of it. AR and The Mole are the only two intelligent “reality” series I have seen. Well worth purchasing.

TAR8 (not the next one, but the one after that) will be an all-family affair. From USA Today (sidebar):

The eighth season of The Amazing Race, which is due next fall, will be a family affair.

In its biggest wrinkle yet, the show will pit fewer, but larger, four-member teams of relatives. But not just Mom, Dad and two kids: Applicant teams can consist of siblings, three-generation families, even engaged couples with one set of parents.

“We’re really looking for strong back stories,” such as an estranged but newly reunited family, host Phil Keoghan says.

All racers must be 12 or older; at least one per team must be 21 or older. Race 8 will be filmed this summer, during school vacation.

“Putting families out there in this format will bring a completely different dynamic” says Keoghan, who will begin a cross-country casting call in early spring (applications at www.cbs.com).

On the Early Show, Phil said they were looking at some “pretty freaky families” – so it’s not gonna be just man & wife + 2.3 kids. I think it’s gonna be pretty cool.
