I dunno, it took 8 years. We’re usually faster
Thanks! Great work Snake hips!
Jeez… that was a year and a half ago? I even searched for threads from the last year with the keyword “Donovan” because I was sure he was mentioned in it, and came up empty. I guess I just didn’t look back far enough!
That’s almost as amazing as the time we identified that 80’s song.
The Dope found for me: a made-for-tv-movie that aired only once in 1980:

I love it. Is there nothing we can’t find?

The Dope has helped me twice in this way:
1.) Hugo III, Jungle of Doom!
Here Captain C IDs a DOS game from 1992.
2.) Peter Pan (the 1960 broadcast)
In this thread Alessan IDs a musical from the '50s and BrotherCadfael narrows it down to the 1960 NBC broadcast.
I don’t post often, but when I do, the Dope delivers.
Here, I found something icky in my canned salmon. My son was newly enamored of Reddit, so on his advice, I asked there what it might be, and was quickly downvoted to oblivion/totally ignored. I posted on the Dope and had an answer toot sweet. Thread: What is this thing I found in a can of salmon? - Factual Questions - Straight Dope Message Board
Also, I once asked the Northeastern Doper Contingent if it was worth it to save $400 on airfare (two tix) to fly into Baltimore for a family event in South Jersey. I won’t bother you with the thread, but several dopers came to my aid with specific driving directions that took me around, not through, the Philly traffic.
You guys are AWESOME and no mistake.
Hey, anyone remember the folks who did some awesome research to identify the origin of the “Oriental Riff”? Here’s the thread: Where does that stereotypical "oriental" song come from? - Factual Questions - Straight Dope Message Board
Must be tons of these.
Never did manage to track down my old Apple II game…
Was anyone else disappointed that there was no explanation of how they figured it out?
Apparently. I’m still waiting for an answer to the first question I ever posted on this board back in 1999.
The answer is yes. Some might be.
I hope you’re satisfied with my response. Sorry it took 13 years to get back to you on it.
The answer to the riddle of what is 14 K of G in a F P D.
Oh, wait …
Or small children…
What the heck. I’ll toot my own horn. I uncovered the answer to whether anyone who knew Robert Lincoln was still alive.
Hey..we have to leave SOMETHING as an exercise for the reader, right?
Did that one guy ever find the owner of the wallet in the wall? I can’t find the thread…
Heh.
No, but the upshot of it, basically, was that several members of the family showed up, having seen the threads or having been contacted, and they all said, “We have no idea whatever happened to Donald Eugenen Ivins. He just disappeared.”
Astro came up with the name of an Australian adventure documentary I was looking for: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=600568&highlight=northern+safari
I thought that was pretty amazing.
