I’m assuming the OP is referring to Little Caesar’s? I got one of those $5 pizzas for lunch, ate two slices, brought the rest home, and the GF and I split it for dinner.
McDonald’s recently abandoned Dollar Menu was also an incredible deal. I’d get a McChicken, a McDouble, a small Fries, and a Coke for a buck each. Now that same meal would be closer to six bucks.
All the McDonalds around here have abandoned the dollar menu for the “value menu” which has all the dollar menu stuff, just with higher prices. Two McDoubles and a large soda is like 5 bucks now.
I’ll still take McDonald’s over BK the few times I want fast food for lunch. I can get a mcchicken, fries, and a coke for just over $3.50 and the same at BK is twice that.
I do stop at McD’s often for $1 drinks. Can’t beat that by much.
It’s not technically a fast-food restaurant, but I’m finding some great deals in pizza by the slice, hot dogs, brats, pre-made salads, breakfast pizzas and burritos and large-size sodas at gas stations. Some of these places sell more food than they sell gas (I’ve heard that from several station managers). The line I’m so hungry I could eat a sandwich from a gas station doesn’t describe what they offer nowadays.
Cicis Pizza Buffet is a truly amazing value. The one I’ve been to in the Kansas City suburb of Roeland Park is $5.98 a person for unlimited salad, pizza, pasta and dessert.
Do you guys ever wonder if the “fabulous discounts” you’re getting at fast-food places are made out of the food that’s two hours away from hitting the dumpster?
“Corporate called. Losing too much money on frozen hamburger waste. Scrape the green off those patties, dip 'em in flour and deep-fry them, and put them out on the less-moldy rolls for a buck apiece. We can call them, uh, Chicken Fried Steakburgers. Make that TWO bucks apiece, because ‘steak.’”
Cici’s! My kids grew up seeing ads for them every day, but I have no idea why. We’re in the North Woods, and the nearest Cici’s was four states away. It wasn’t until a SCUBA trip in Florida that we turned a corner and the kids yelled “Cici’s!!!” I was excited too (we stuffed ourselves for a few bucks).
I forgot about the $1 burgers at Bar Louie, and they’re good too.
Can’t go wrong with Taco Bell.
This reminds me of something, whenever someone asks (complains) about why people choose to eat fast food instead of healthy food, my answer is usually something along the lines of (ignoring prep time) ‘when 2 tacos or a Big Mac and a giant soda are $8 and a Sub from Subway/Cousins/Quiznos is $3.00, then, people will eat healthy’. Yes, sugary garbage (And I love it) is consumed partially because, let’s face it, it tastes better, but you have to factor in the cost. Mom’s on her way home from work, Dad hasn’t had a job in 3 weeks, the rent is due next week, do you get the $3.00 meal or the $8.00 meal? I’m still willing to bet that if the prices were reversed, people would buy the healthier food and might even start to lose weight without even trying.
