American Dad

so far, nothing special, on a scale of 1-10 i’d give it a 3

it’s not Family Guy, not even close

It’s fair. I’m going to give a couple of weeks.

"The boss is being a real “catch you next Tuesday”.

Not all that great. Had a few moments:

Pretty soon we’re going to be more than a couple.

Oh, congratulations. I thought you were just fat.

We’re adopting.

All in all it seems like a parody of Family Guy. Don’t like the alien of the fish.

i just hope we don’t end up with another Futurama/Simpsons cancellation debacle…

i can see fox doing multiple things here…

FG and AD run concurrently, no cancellations for either (highly improbable, this IS fox after all…)

FG gets more popular, has better writing and generally outclasses AD, AD trudges along from mediocre ep to mediocre ep, in response, fox cancels FG and lets AD run itself into the ground (the Futurama Paradox)

FG gets more popular, has better writing and generally outclasses AD, AD trudges along from mediocre ep to mediocre ep, in response, fox cancels AD and lets FG run unmolested by the idiotic “suits” at fox, this likely will not happen because it makes sense

AD comes from out of nowhere, has better writing and outclasses FG, fox cancels AD and runs FG

AD comes from out of nowhere, has better writing and outclasses FG, fox cancels FG and runs AD

fox lets both shows run for a year and cancels them in the middle of their respective seasons

The wife looks like a fish. I didn’t really think this was all that great.

I like the political humor. I think they can really go places with that.

It was okay. It was better then the pilot, but still not anywhere near family guy.

Family Guy is great, so go Seth, but if American Dad remains on the air and Arrested Development is cancelled…

I didn’t think it was that bad at all. It had a few good moments and is better than most programs on a Sunday night. Whether or not the show will improve is yet to be seen.

I liked it. But I didn’t see the pilot, so can anyone tell me how a Grey came to live with them?

Oh, and this was Mr. Rilch’s reaction to the husband’s co-worker’s confession:

“…Did I just see that?..”

He crash landed on earth and has been assimilated into the all-american family in a poor attempt at a cover up.

I see. Thank you.

Actually, the alien saved Stan’s life at Area 51. As for the fish, his brain was transplanted with that of an East German skiier during the 1988 Olympics so the Commies wouldn’t win another medal.

I think Guy is funnier than Dad, but this show has potential.

“You were fired. That’s passive past tense, Trump. You don’t own that.”

I saw this for the first time last night, after the blessed and hilarious return of Family Guy.

It’s not bad. It’s a touch on the bland side, but I’m more likely to watch it than the Simpsons at this point.

Don’t get me wrong, I still like the Simpsons - it’s just so familiar by this point that I can’t be bothered to watch unless I have nothing else to do.

It feels a little one-note to go the distance, though. Stan’s the only character with much character so far; and all he’s got is ‘conservative G-Man’.

So this wasn’t the pilot? When did the pilot air? I thought this was the first time it was on TV.

The pilot (IIRC it was tagged as a “preview”) aired after the Super Bowl.

The pilot aired after the Superbowl.

This episode was much better. It is around the quality of the early episodes of the Family Guy. It will get better when the characters develop.

I thought the gay reporters (“news partners”) were hilarious.

AD just needs to develop a few running gags, tighten the writing, and it can turn it on.

Interestingly, my next door neighbor’s step-brother is a producer/writer on this show.

Dollars to donuts it was just a retooled Family Guy script.

The bumfight segment definitely could be. It did seem a bit dated. It could absolutely be a Family Guy plotline from 2000-2001.
