American Gothic TV show

I watched some episodes of this on Chiller while snowed in today. It has a creepy plot to say the least. Did any Dopers like it?

That was a hell of a show; I wish I’d seen more of it.

Enough to buy the DVDs.

Cool.
So, is Buck in league with demons or something?
Did they wind things up in a final episode, or just quit when they were canceled?
Thanks.

I bought the DVDs too. Be warned that the episodes aren’t in story order. Annoying, moving discs around.

It’s too bad the show was cancelled, but if I remember right, it ended well, or at least at a reasonable place in the story. Sheriff Buck was a pretty good villain.

ETA: No demons.

There’s someone at the door.

So, he’s just a general Nasty Bastard as Protagonist without demonic, alien or psychic assistance who worms his way into folks near death experiences?

Say what?
Who let you in, this isn’t a Trek thread…

I liked this show a lot. Often it seems like TV series gradually clue you into the evilness of their characters, but Lucas Buck is clearly an evil bastard from the get-go, and he doesn’t particularly hide it very much. Too bad this show wasn’t given much of a chance.

Would’ve been cool if Shaun Cassidy wrote some Trek.

ETA: yeah, I know, supervising producer. Sounds better as wrote.

Shaun Cassidy having anything to do with this show is creepy by it’s ownself, if I may use a South Carolina idiom.
Is that an idiom, or a metaphor, or a malapropism?

Here’s one of my favorite (as best as I can recall) plots:

Couple wants to sell a piece of property, but the blind old guy who lives there likes the place and won’t leave. Sheriff Buck decides to give the couple a hand. Not only does he help them make the sale, but it’s apparently at a healthy profit. But the couple, in their rush to get paid, fail to notice that the number on the check is in French francs. They’ve actually screwed themselves. Meantime, the buyers don’t mind if the blind old guy sticks around.

Gary Cole is one of my favorite actors and he was creepy as hell in this! Not as creepy as his spot-on Mike Brady impression, but still pretty creepy.

I used to love that show. My friends and I believed

that he was supposed to be Satan himself. And all the people who would “owe him” after some favour were making deals with the devil.

Don’t remember if that was shown to be the case by the end though.

Damn, I hate spoilers in fifteen year old shows.

He knew a guy’s name in an episode; I think there is something demonic going on there.

After this post, we shall offer spoilers with impunity.

True, but as you were watching it for the first time I thought it better to be safe than sorry.

He’s certainly got supernatural powers, I’ve got no doubt about that. I also think that Caleb’s potential power hinted at throughout indicate that Buck’s not human. (Buck’s Caleb’s dad in case that hasn’t been shown yet and you haven’t had enough spoilers ;))

I really don’t remember what happened in the end though!
