I can’t believe how hard the show is pushing their favorites. They clearly love David A, Carly, and Michael. Last week they gave Michael and Carly the final pimp spots; this week they will let them go first and give the pimp spot to David A.
My thoughts:
All Davids can stay.
David A in my opinion overdid the song and didn’t stick to the melody enough but he is crazy talented and not going anywhere.
David H has been one of my favorites since Hollywood. He can really really sing but he is not standing out. I’m hoping he did enough to stay around.
David C was OK but I’m supporting him on vocabulary and because Simon is an idiot.
Jason C wasn’t great but the fans love him. I think he’s unique and talented but I hate the dreads.
Jason Y was mediocre and forgettable.
**Michael ** wasn’t all that good. I don’t understand the love the judges have for him.
Chickeze sang well. I though he was OK until he talked back again. He might go on attitude alone but doesn’t deserve to go on singing this week.
Danny I cannot be rational about because I love the little flamer, but I think he could be in trouble. He sang better than last week but still not all that well.
Robbie was just OK. I think he may go soon.
Luke is still very very pretty. He actually sounded much better, but maybe I’m blinded by the pretty.
Who should/will go? Jason Y and either** Robbie** or Danny, with a possibility of Chickeze.
Michael Johns “Go Your Own Way” - very solid. He’s got such a Jim Morrison thang going on that it’s hard to separate the charisma from the talent.
Jason Castro “I Just Want To Be Your Everything” - I still love this kid even though it wasn’t the best performance. He seems so…benevolent or something.
Luke Menard “Killer Queen” - he’s so good looking, but you’d better blow it out of the house if you’re going to take on Freddie Mercury (MHRIP). Meh.
Robbie Carrico “Hot Blooded” - I didn’t think it was bad. I think he’s got a great leading man voice.
Danny Noriega “Superstar” - Well, gosh, it was purty. He bugged me less this week because he was more vulnerable than cocky.
David Hernandez “Papa Was A Rolling Stone” - very solid.
Jason Yeager “Long Train Running” - that cheesy Tom Cruise smile is such a detriment. Took criticism well, though.
Chikezie Eze “I Believe To My Soul” - I liked him so much better than last week. A little soul from the brother!
Is allowing props (e.g. guitar) new this year? Cause David Cook worked it. It’s like having an extra penis! (In his interview, he stole Michael Johns’ scarf!) Snarkiness to Simon isn’t cool, though I think it’s ironic that Simon sulked about it.
David Archuleta “Imagine” - John Lennon - Purty, but I really hate when vocalists screw around with the melody and turn a simple song into a vocal demonstration. (Whitney Houston, I’m looking at you for ruining “I Will Always Love You.”) It detracts from the message behind the song. But seems to be a really nice kid and gets kudos for having such a good stage presence. Praise was over the top.
My bottom two were Luke Menard who destroyed one of my favorite Queen songs and Jason Yaeger who I find annoying in every way- and put in the worst performance of the night to boot.
Jason Castro was basically the same as last week. I’d like to see some variety out of him. I also thought Michael Johns was pretty unspectacular.
My wife can’t stand David Archuletta… but even she admitted he was pretty amazing last night.
Incidentally- to whoever asked… i can’t verify the accuracy here, but this is what I heard…
“Good Looking Out”
Came out of football, as coaches would tell recievers running an Out route, “Good looking out”. The players started using it to mean good job and it spread to the population.
I can not confirm this at all; in fact reading it all typed out it sounds a little far fetched. But when I first heard the term several years ago- that is what I was told.
My hate for Whitney Houston is a family legend. The kids sing her version when they want to piss me off. But I liked David’s version almost as much as Paula did. He showed off a bit but I don’t think it hurt the song.
A couple of good performances.
A few okay ones.
The rest were just so so.
Only an egotist would sing “Killer Queen”.
Doobie Brothers/MacDonald songs are so stylized that a good performance of them tend to be more like impersonations, so are best skipped.
But I must agreed will Paula, with all the songs available, why choose what you did?
I thought the same thing last night! I turned to my niece and said “He’s such a pretty pretty man.” and then it hit me how much he reminded me of Orlando Bloom when he first showed up and I thought he was one of the prettiest men ever. But now there is Luke, with his little scruffy beard that says “I’m not pretty; I’m a man!”
This is live, right? Come on Carly, bop right out of that dress! You’ll get plenty votes. And what the hell does she have on her arm? A tattoo of herself?
I liked her version of Crazy on You. But it takes a lot to top Heart.
Nope, do not like Macy Grey’s Old Hairstyle. Oh there’s her name, Syesha. She keeps losing the key. And she keeps looking into the camera. Not even the big finish saved it for me.
Well now, we can never accuse Brooke of tanorexia. Damn, she’s pale.
Um, she wasn’t playing lead guitar? She all of a sudden stopped strumming. She also looks at her guitar while she’s playing far too much. And I didn’t love her vocal.
I haven’t been crazy about her so far, but she did a good job with that song. I cringe when someone starts singing a Heart song, because I know the bar is pretty high already. As Randy would say, Ann and Nancy can “blow”! Carrie Underwood knocked it out of the park when she sang “Alone”. Carly was nowhere near *that * good, but she was good.
I agree with Randy on Syesha, it was completely boring and forgettable and questionably pitched, but then my attention snapped right back when she wailed on the chorus.
I still like Carly, somehow, I’m just not liking what she’s doing. No sense to be found there, just hoping she’ll click into herself or whatever.
Hey, wow, Brooke actually impressed me. First time for that, maybe she doesn’t suck. The eyeliner helped too.
