What, we’re not allowed to call him as we see 'em anymore?
Mikalah maxes out her emotional reactions the way a lot of 16 y/os do. I think she does feel bad for the other contestants, relieved that she’s safe, whatever, just not the extent that she plays it. There are a lot of teenage girls like that.
I’m upset about Celena. As I already said, I thought her performance last night was excellent, and the judges’ comments were total sabotage.
Aloha I won’t miss, but I’m amazed that it was her and not Janay.
Not sorry about David and Joe. Glad is was them and not any of the guys I like.
One more question in this unweildly thread: When there are 3 people left, are they in least vote getting order? In other words, did Travis get the third least amount of votes?
Are you?
Look, you like her-- there’s no accounting for taste-- but if you are going to jump down the throat of the people who don’t we can take it to the Pit right now. Just because you chose to believe that a girl who looked like a 40 year old tricked-out tranny until AI stylists got their hands on her, who promised her mom that boob job she always wanted when she won is just a poor, scared, genuine16 year old then more power to you.
But don’t start getting huffy with the people who disagree.
You know what? That post changed my mind. Even though I had thought they were a bit whiny, I was agreeing with the complainers that airtime is a critical factor. But your counter-examples destroy the false premise. I like arguments like that. Thanks, Dio.
I’m glad Celena is gone. She was painful to listen to. I hate that FM-lite crap that she sang. I was only lukewarm towards Aloha, so I don’t really care.
The guys: Joe (and you are…?) and David (oh, you were still here?) I don’t really care about either of them. And it’s not lack of airtime, you arrogant little f-bleep-k.
My husband wanted Mario (to me, he’s Fez) gone. He can’t stand him for some reason and it’s not only the singing. I thought he was good, but the song choice wasn’t great. My husband, on the other hand…
Nutty Hubby (as Mario sings “I Love Music”): “Then why are you killing it?”
Go Bo!
IIRC, during the auditions Mikalah stated that just about everything made her cry. Her emotions are very close to the surface.
I liked Joe and wish he’d had time to develop. I admired him saying that’d he’d done nothing wrong. He made it as far as he did because he was good. He was simply outshown by the others.
Next week will be hard. The only male I can stand to see go now is Constantine, so at least one, and probably two, that I like will be eliminated. As someone pointed out earlier, once we get to the final 12, several of the women will get knocked out before any of the men go. The only women I’m attached to are Nadia and Vonzell. Carrie has a great voice, but I can’t forgive “Piece of My Heart”. If that was Faith Hill’s version, then shame on Faith Hill. If Carrie doesn’t know Janis Joplin’s music, perhaps she’s too musically naive to be worthy of going far in the business.
I’ve got to prepare myself to lose someone I like next week, but it should be a hell of a show.
Dio has many good observations, but people should be free to express their thoughts/feelings, without snide, dismissive, who-the-hell-are-you asides. There’s too much of a suck-up amen corner going on here, for my taste. Dio is a good guy, but sometimes overplays the Mafia don shtick. He’s also way too smart to be watching theatre like AI, but that’s another story.
People need to remember this is: (a) television (b) the Fox Network (c) manipulative theatre.
If Mikalah is truly great, I couldn’t hear it through my TV. Maybe I need to upgrade to Monster Cable. A nice voice, but nothing extraordinary. Last week, her cheesy imitation of Barbra Streisand was cringe-inducing to the nth degree. That said, most of these kids are just too damn young to have the vocal chops needed to pull off many of these songs.
This is why, IMO, 16 is too young. It has nothing to do with talent (as Randy’s comment during the initial auditions implied). Those kids last season were emotional wrecks. I also don’t think it’s right to take them out of school for half a year or more for the show. Then they have not only all the other stress but they somehow have to keep up with schoolwork. 18 should be the cut-off age, sure some kids might still be in high school then but there would be a lot less of them.
I’m terribly sorry. I was too busy finishing up the coursework for my latest class to do the song/artist thing Tuesday night.
I could do it now, but you guys can see it on the website now.
And I agree that Mikalah’s performance was awesome, Celena and Aloha did nothing for me and I don’t mind that they are out. Carrie was doing Faith Hill, not Janis. Who did “A Broken Wing” by Martina McBride? Gutsy choice, but I do it that well at the karaoke bar, so no…that’s not good enough for this competition. I don’t know why everyone wanted to take Carrie’s schtick and do country, it didn’t work out well. The girls that did Alicia have some major cojones but they couldn’t pull it off. I wouldn’t try to do something so hard without knowing I could NAIL it.
And yes, the band was OFF on Tuesday night. The drummer was ahead of the music on at least 4 songs that I counted. If I’d been singing, I would have been livid.
And I did like Joseph (for his cutie pie looks) but his comment last night irked me too. Sing! If you can sing, you should get through. A lot of my favorites don’t seem to have gotten maximum exposure. I didn’t realize Bo was from Atlanta (and oh, yes we do call it Hotlanta because of cuties like him) until this week.
I think that was the blonde girl whose mom got sick. She seemed truly emotional and hypersensitive.
I’d like to see the age cut-off moved to 18 as well, for pretty much the same reasons. I think the powers that be are looking for the next Christina or Britney or Jessica or even that country girl that had a zillion selling single at 14, so I doubt it’s going to happen.
That said, I’m not really sure it’s a disadvantage either way. Older singers have the benefit of maturity and experience and have had time to hone their craft, but younger singers are potentially more crushable for the massive teen voting block and play on the youth=sexy thing.
I can’t believe I’m betting on a reality show, but I’ve actually got a whopping $5 wager on whether Smirky McSmarmovitch makes the finals. I say no way, he doesn’t have the chops or the cuteness, but my best girlfriend thinks he’s been pimped far too much from day one to disappear now. I so hope I’m right!
I think the pimping can only take someone so far. Simon did everything but parade Goat Girl around the stage in a thong but the masses finally booted her sorry ass. Smirky just isn’t that good–meh voice, average looks, and a rotten attitude. I think he’ll be around for a while but no way he makes the finals.
[fingers crossed]
Well, since there’s only one more week until the finals, being around for a while means he’ll make the finals.
who is McSmarmovitch?
I’m guessing its Fedorov.
Constantine
Leann Rimes?
Federov? He’s the one with the tracheotomy scar, right? I thought his choice of outfit on Monday appeared designed to draw attention to that, with the open collar and the choker.
Oh, well, if he doesn’t make it to the last round, he can always tack a few more minutes onto his fifteen with a story in Chicken Soup for the American Idol contestant’s Soul.
snort
Yep, Leann. 'Twas on the tip of my tongue and couldn’t think of her name, thanks!
