Joe did come off as kind of arrogant. there have been others on this show who didn’t get a lot of airtime who still built a fanbase on their performances. Kelly Clarkson got pretty much no air time before the semi-finals. And hello…how much air time did Bo get before two weeks ago? He earned his voting base on his performances alone. Joe just didn’t connect. That’s the way it goes. If you can’t sell it on your performances alone you don’t deserve to be there.
That’s exactly what I came in here to say. On the other hand, though, part of me can’t help but think that the reason Constantine hasn’t been kicked off yet is because he was pimped all throughout the beginning stages. How long would he have lasted if we didn’t get the whole drama with him quitting the band, and then him having trouble dancing with his group, and so on? I can see in that case how it would be kind of unfair. But let’s be realistic, there’s no way Joseph would have ever won this competition, no matter how much pimping had been done.
Anyway, I hope Janay does awesome next week. I want to like her.
One of the girls who was voted out (Sarah, I think her name was) did her sing out really stiffly and indifferently with one hand in her pocket and a total “I don’t give a fuck” expression on her face. She also lowered the mike and quit singing before the song was over.
I think they may have wanted to avoid giving other losers the opportunity to step on the sing outs like that.
Last week the losers had to sing. Sarah Mather’s rendition would have been an amazing performance by a dead fish. Many people interpreted it as a giant f*** you to the show and fans.
Actually, I’m sort of relieved that they aren’t singing anymore, since I really didn’t and don’t want to watch Janay try to sing after being booted.
Well, they’re all copying I think it was Jennifer’s “I lost because I didn’t get any airtime” prop.
Nobody knew LaToya London existed until the last week of the semifinals, and she gave a top notch performance and became an instant favorite to win the competition. She had NO airtime before the semifinals.
Any chances of liking Mikalah were crushed by her dramatic and phony crying jag when people got eliminated. She DOES know this is a competition and you can’t win unless others lose, right? What a fake.
She’s 16 years old. This whole roller coaster has got to be emotionally draining for a teenager. One month you’re just a normal kid, the next month you’re in Hollywood, on national television performing live songs every week, you literally become famous overnight, you’re constantly rehearsing and being rushed from place to place. People are saying mean things about you on the internet, you have the amazing reward of being an instant celebrity (and to a large extent, based on actual merit and talent), the potential of a gift wrapped life of fame and fortune, and all the time, you’ve got a sword of Damocles over your head and it could end at any minute. Complete strangers are saying they hate you on message boards and calling you a slut, other people are saying they love you and want to have your babies.
I’m sure that some of the contestants do form friendships but I’m also guessing that just making it through another week is enough of a relief to bring a 16 year old girl to tears.
John Stevens always looked like he was going to be sick every ime he made it.
It’s a bizarro world and this girl Mikalah does not have the life experience or sophistication to really be in control of herself or not get overwhelmed by what’s going on.
I don’t think her tears were fake. I think she was just showing herself for the scared kid that she is.
Diogenes has it right. I fully agree with all of that.
Good points Dio.
I missed the results, I see we’ve lost Celena and Aloha. Many of us expected the first but I thought the latter had more fans. Since I wasn’t among them, no big deal for me.
Puppy-dog eyed Joe is gone, but who’s the other fella?
Bah - west coast and I can’t wait, Aloha is out? She was AWESOME last week, I’m really disappointed. Aloha, Celena, Joe and ?
David.
My bullshit detector was going haywire. But if you’ve decided you like her, you’ll say her crappy performances are home runs and her corny hand gestures are genius and her crocodile tears are heartbreaking.
It works both ways, cricetus. You’ve decided you don’t like her, so you’re going to write off everything she does as contrived. You’ve also yet to provide any evidence that she was crying just for the effect, and not because of any real emotion on her part. Mikalah’s not the first person to cry on American Idol–it’s a common sentiment to feel nervous and relieved and physically/emotionally drained and sad that people are leaving and knowing that that could be you next week. I’m willing to give a 16-year-old kid the benefit of the doubt on this one.
She’s 17, actually… and she’s had the plastic surgery of a 40-year-old. nothing about her is real. She’s a stage child, born and raised, and pushed into this from the age of 2 by her mother. Every tear’s rehearsed.
I am just shocked beyond words that Janay is still with us. That was, far and away, the worst performance in the final 24/32 in the history of the show.
Do you really think she’s that self-possessed and cynical and calculating at 16 that she’s completely untouched emotionally by all that’s going on and every single action is completely affected and phony? She can’t cry a single authentic tear? Really?
I agree with Dio – a competition like this can certainly rattle anyone’s emotions, whether they’re 16 (like Mikalah) or someone older (Constantine’s honest worried expression). The difference is that age/experience gives you an “edge” in how to react professionally. I don’t fault Mikalah’s tears at all.
I honestly was surprised Janay got a pass. Maybe she’ll become the “wild card” nobody thought her of being.
Aloha? Her performance was the only one I missed last night, so I can’t give any constructive criticism there.
I knew both Joe and David would get the boot. The “I’m-out-because-I-got-no-air-time” excuse, to me, is lame. It’s a competition, people. Either you’ve got it or you don’t.
Oh, **Big Girl]/b], they’re sticking to the Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday format, so don’t fret
I’m not saying she’s a sociopath, I’m saying she’s hystrionic and melodramatic. Her youth plays out in the corniness of performances both as a singer and as a reality TV show contestant.
It doesn’t make her worse than anyone else. At least she didn’t do “dial this number” this week, although it’s hard to forgive her for wagging her finger at the camera in that “no you better not” style, which is little better than pointing or “reeling us in.”
She didn’t cry when she found out she was safe. She covered her face and acted torn to shreds when other people got booted. It wasn’t a very good acting job. I don’t need anymore evidence than the tape.
Are you a mind reader?
