What’s frustrating to me is that if they didn’t think she was ready, why did they put her on the show?
I wonder that about certain contestants every year. Granted, the carefully edited stuff we see isn’t anywhere near what the judges see, and there’s always the possibility that someone sings well in the tryouts but nervously screws up in the finals.
The cynic in me thinks they put some folks thru knowing their favorites will shine by comparison. If that were true, though, how would Ruben, John Stevens and JPL, Fantasia or Carmen, for instance, lasted as long as they did?
Pisses me off when I see someone who seems totally worthy get cut in the first rounds and someone who shouldn’t have the chance getting it instead.
No, I don’t give anyone a pass. Her voice was so-so, but every nuance of expression and movement was perfect. There’s something about her voice that just leaves me flat. Not in the sense of off-key, but in the sense of unleavened bread. But if you can point out a mistake in her delivery otherwise, I’ll listen.
The wild-card round was intended to help correct such errors. Does anyone know if there will be one this time, with the new system?
My brother and my girlfriend both like her, so I’ll try to like her. My girlfriend says she’s “exactly what AI deserves,” which had me laughing so hard I nearly teared up. Best reason for voting I’ve heard yet!
One of the women on “Nashville Star” sang “Poor Poor Pitiful Me” because Terri Clark had recorded it a la Faith Hill and “Piece of My Heart”. The judges commented on how Clark’s version and the NS version took all of the twisted humor and sardonic feel right out of it and made it a happy pop ditty.
Was Mikaela the one who said she was a black woman in a white woman’s body or am I misremembering the auditions? If she did, I guess “God Bless the Child” was the right song choice.
As I understand it, no. Each week two guys and two gals will be sent home, until we get to the Final Twelve. From what I read (I can’t find any of the articles now, though), they changed the process so that the contestants sent to the Finals from Group One wouldn’t “disappear” for a month.
Also, there were a lot of complaints in the past about the Wild Card contestants: either the ones who were called back didn’t deserve a second chance, which is why they didn’t get passed through the first time; or, the ones who just “mysteriously” appeared didn’t belong there, which is why we’ve never seen them until the Wild Card round (I am looking at you, Carmen-the-Goat-Girl). Supposedly the thinking was that people could “follow” their favorites all the way through to the end.
I think she said something like, “I know I’m white but it ain’t nothing but a birthmark.”
Cringe inducing, I concede.
That’s pretty funny!
Celena’s out. No shock there.
Does Seacrest really have to say stuff like “The dream is over for <contestant>” or “the road to stardom ends here”? Not only is it hokey and lame, it’s also kind of mean.
Aloha, Aloha.
(Yes, I’ve been waiting to say that)
The sing outs didn’t go too well last week so maybe they decided it was too cruel…or maybe they were worried that one of the losers would sabotage it like what’s her name sort of did last week.
Yeah, just moments after Randy encourages her to “keep the dream alive,” Ryan sends us to commercial by telling us the dream is over for Celena. I’m ashamed to say that made me laugh.
If they were going to cut a half an hour from the show, you’d think they’d cut out all the stupid and mean dramatics and leave in the singing.
No, you wouldn’t think that because you are just as cynical as I am.
Bah…who keeps voting for Hedwig?
When is the next show? I can’t keep it straight. Is it still going to be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday? Doesn’t FOX know how easily confused I am?
I’m tired of the attitude that the problem isn’t their singing, or their performances, but that they haven’t “gotten enough airtime.” Last week was the first week I really watched and, so far, nobody’s gone who had a realistic chance of winning.
Memo to Joe: You’re out because you’re not as good as some of the other contestants. Deal with it.
I missed it last week; what happened?
