What I meant by saying I didn’t care what you think wasn’t that I was dismissing you, I simply meant that it didn’t affect my world or my opinion and I wasn’t bothered by it or wanting it changed or any of that. I was responding to your defensiveness. Sort of like if someone is at your house asks if it’s ok to use your computer to check their email, and you say “sure, I don’t care.”
As for “how could such a creature ever please you?” the answer is quite simple: by showing some emotional depth to his performance. That’s my whole problem with him. His performances strike me as not much different from a person who phoenetically learns to sing a song in a foreign language. They may sing it very well, but they don’t understand the meaning, and so the emotion doesn’t come through.
Eleanor Rigby is on my short list for ‘favorite songs of all times’. I fell in love with it the first time I heard it and I’ve yet to hear a version I like better than the originals. I was lukewarm to David Cook’s version on the show and the studio version is absolutely dreadful. (I love Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin but didn’t really like either of their takes on the song.) I think that song needs the full symphonic accompaniment.
OTOH, if David Arch. were to take on the song, I’d have to hold his dog hostage until the tapes were destroyed.
I definitely agree with that, Sampiro. It is a great song among great songs for so many reasons, and has earned the sports world equivalent of a retired jersey.
Well, that’s the band, and that claims to be from the album. Oddly enough, that version just sounds off from my CD.
As I said when he first sang it, it sounds like the same arrangement, but at half the speed. What week was that? Another poster, maybe DDG, agreed with me in that week’s thread.
And, OMG, I got quoted! That might be a first for me!
Giving you a cheap thrill, just because I can.
