American Idol 3/3-3/5

Nathaniel’s “I Would Do Anything For Love” is a crappy song in search of a club remix.

Does anybody like this kid?

He sounded like Cher on the uptempo parts.

His mother has a face like a catcher’s mitt.

Um, Randy. Elton John != Olivia Newton-John.

Maybe he was thinking of I’m Still Standin’?

A lot of spandex there.

When Paula calls something “the Boy George version” is that her way of saying it was super gay?

Northern New York? I would have guessed he’s from… another planet, maybe? That was just horrible.

Nathaniel can sing. Not AI winner material but he can sing better than I would have thought by looking at his off stage interviews and stuff.

Instead of Olivia Newton-John, I kept thinking of Mike Reno from Loverboy, but sparklier! Plus, they have the same tight pants, eh?

Oh, I know! If you’ve ever been to Malone (and Og knows, there’s no reason to be there), you’d never believe that Nathaniel is from there.

Malone has lots of cows, snowmobilers, mullets, NASCAR fans, etc. I’m guessing dear Nathaniel got beat up on a daily basis at school.

Oh My, this girls pretty!

Ouch…the retread chick just hit a clunker of a note. That was pretty karaoke. I guess there was a reason she got cut the first time.

No, all things do not happen for a reason. Shut up, Paula.

Without a doubt. Probably why he didn’t even flinch at the well-deserved beating he got from the judges.

I so disagree with the judges. Over the top and poor phrasing.

Good voice but really bad delivery.

For somebody who doesn’t follow the off-stage drama: Why is she ‘back,’ and who got bumped off and why?

That “I’m going home” in the intro sounded bad.

Good beginning. I’m glad they let him sit.

Missed a note, but not too bad.

Missed it again.

Meh.

Chorus is a bit better.

Too many off notes.

Why isn’t he playing piano while singing this song? Are they not allowing instruments during this phase? Not that it would have helped his singing…

Another chick was dating some exec and it was determined “conflict”.

Scott: thank Og he didn’t sing that horribly. I love the song, and he sang it well while still finding a little way to bring some modern tone to it. A few iffy spots, but overall, solid.

Blind guy!

They’ve got him in a chair. Good idea.

Starting out ok. In key at least. Missed a note in the falsetto, there. They should put some shades on this kid, the empty stare is a little creepy.

Ow, another dropped note. He’s not terrible, but I have to say he’s not that great either. If it wasn’t for the story, I have to wonder if he’d be here.
