Sweet Jesus YES!
Tatiana is back!
I wish Ryan would stop pronouncing Lil’s name as “Li’l”.
I was a little disappointed with some of the ones they are bringing back for the wild card show.
The first four:
Ricky Braddy - all I remember about him is his name because it reminds me of Will Ferrell’s character in Talladega Nights.
Von Smith - good grief, I though he was a weak singer and uninteresting, too.
Megan Corkery - not a good enough singer, but she’s pretty to look at.
Jazmine Murray - meh
But then it gets good:
Tatiana - a good voice and a drama queen. Perfect!
Jessie - nice voice, a little different, and I like redheads
Whatshisfacebluesydude - meh
AnoopDawg - can sing and has some personality
I’m rooting for Tatiana, Jessie, and Anoop to get the wild card picks.
Hmm. Out of that bunch, I guess I want Anoop, Jazmine, and Jessie (or maybe Ricky). I was a little disappointed because some of the ones I like were left out. I liked Kristen and Jackie and Norman and, oh there was another guy. Hmm. Well this season isn’t impressing me so far, but we will see next week how good our top 12 really is.
Since America picked guy-guy-girl all three weeks, I would think all three Wild Cards would be female since they want six girls and six guys for the top 12, even if some of the guys might be more deserving. If that’s the case, then I forsee Tatiana, Megan, and Jessie making it.
No way they pick all three girls – Anoop is in for sure. Probably Tatiana and Megan will join him, but you never know who might totally screw up tonight.
I want to take a clipper to Von’s hair. He’s got a Something About Mary thing going on that just doesn’t work.
Why is Idol feeding the Tatiana beast? She’s not going to win it, so they’re just pressurizing the crazy. I don’t want to be nearby when she blows.
Scott’s getting the sympathy vote. He’s not a strong enough performer, although considering this year’s crop, maybe he is.
Megan has a quirky appeal, which isn’t entirely rooted in her singing ability. She moves like one of those Dancing Santa dolls at the mall, but she’s cute and… something. Sparkly.
There’s nothing lil about Lil. I think she’s the standout performer, but her husband looks like he couldn’t be less thrilled.
I think this year’s group is overwhelmingly lackluster.
Barring an absoluetly dreadful performance tonight, Anoop and Tatiana are locks – Anoop brings crazy talent, and Tatiana brings crazy and talent.
Ataraxy has a good point about Fox wanting more of a M/F balance, and while they won’t have 6/6, they’ll probably shoot for 7/5, meaning the third wild card will likely be a girl as well. While I think Von is probably the best vocalist of the remaining bunch (shouty, but I think he’s got good potential), they’ll go with the less talented but more packageable Jasmine Murray.
I agree, but I can’t remember if I felt this way about prior groups at this stage of the competition. I seem to remember the contestants getting significantly better as the show moves forward, but I could be wrong.
Rhetorical Question? Yes? As i indicated in Post 2 of this thread, producers and sponsors have a lot of input.
I think last year at this time David Archuleta was clearly the guy to beat (Danny Gokey) and the backlash hadn’t set in yet. I was rooting for Carly Smithson and Jason Castro. David Cook wasn’t even on my radar, except as a generic rock poseur (whoops). What seemed so great about last season wasn’t necessarily the vocal talent - which was much better than this year - but how smart and interesting and unique they all seemed to be, at least those who made it to the top 10. This year, at least so far, they’re all flatlining on the personality scale.
Except for Norman. sigh
So the judges pick the 8 wild cards, and then the judges pick the 3 winners. The cynic in me wonders why we’re going through this round.
I don’t see how they can commit to a 6/6 male/female balance at this piont. That would mean that having guys in the wild card round is just a transparent sham. While much of the show is a sham, it’s not a transparent sham.
Ratings.
Something that just occurred to me – The person most disappointed in last night’s results: Whoever is in charge of the choreography for the dance numbers. Now they’ll have to spend each week trying to come up with more and more ways to make it look natural to have half the group sitting down (at least until Scott gets the boot).
If only there was a way to suspend Scott in mid-air, they could dance beneath him. The name of the choreography: King of the Sky.
I think he still has a trace of his southern accent. The Memphis paper said today that she’s named for her grandmother, Lily. BTW–my brother was one of her teachers in middle school.
Fearless prediction: Scott will be spending the dance numbers playing the piano.
Jesse’s “Tell Me Something Good”, was not…good. And who dressed her? Her shrug looks like it came from JC Penney and should not have been paired with a black dress. I almost couldn’t get past that to hear her singing.
I like Jesse. I think she’s got some soul.
This Matt guy in the hat and scarf is a giagantic tool.
Of courses the judges love him. He’s bland and insipid and neutered, just how they like them.
