American Idol 3/4, 3/5, 3/6

Don’t do it! If I had buckled as easily as you, I would’ve been wearing sparkly spandex like the Solid Gold dancers when I was 13! (Instead, it was legwarmers, but that’s not exactly a step up, is it?).

I find this entire post both insightful and hilarious!!

But I don’t necessarily agree with the insight. I don’t care for Kady, but I honestly think she gave the best vocal performance tonight. Based on tonight alone, I think Ramiele and Krysty Lee were easily the worst.

I’ve thought that for the past couple of weeks. She gives me the impression that the joking dare she agreed on with her friends has gone much farther than she really thought it would, and she’s stuck with riding it out.

Yeah, but at least you would have had a life filled with up music and rhythm in your soul…

And I can’t have rhythm and music in my soul in my Lee Riders? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m the last person to be comparing Idol singers with the original artists of tonight’s songs, because for me the 80’s were all about the Replacements, Dinosaur Jr, Meat Puppets, etc. That being said, Brooke was the only singer with any originality to her performace, and she sang the hell out of her song. I felt it, which is not something I can say about any of the others. And Simon nailed it.

I liked the country version of the Journey song.

I loved the Nanny doing an acoustic version of Battlefield.

And I gotta say, my Houston homegirl (Kady) sucked pretty bad.

Rocker nurse was a’ight - I can’t remember the rest.

Word. I liked Brooke, and hated everyone else. Kady and Ramiele should go.

Once again, I find that all the women suck sufficiently equally that there’s no point in differentiating them by grade. C-minuses all around. And as for Pauler, good lord. She was emergency room high. Really really gone. At some point, her condition is going to bite AI in the ass.

I liked Brooke and Amanda, and can’t remember any of the others so I’m not sure how I felt.

That about says it all.

I liked Brooke and nobody else. And I agree that Amanda looked like she wanted to be anywhere but where she was. She almost seemed drugged.

It could be worse. He could have said that she designed the clothes for the video.

Okay, I appreciated that Brooke tried to make “Love is a Battlefield” new and interesting.

I don’t understand how the judges can knock the chick who did Whitney for being “boring and predictable” while praising Amanda for taking on Joan Jett. How predictable was that? I want to see her take on country or something to see how she does.

I still like Carly despite her tattoos. She’s got a stage presence about her that none of the others do.

The rest were okay but not memorable.

I liked Brooke and Amanda the best last night, though I agree that Amanda looked miserable. But I love Joan Jett, she sang my favorite Joan Jett song, and I thought she did a really good job with it. Everybody else was just “meh” except Kady and Asia’h, who I thought were really bad. I was also distracted by the high-waisted pants. High-waisted pants are one thing but high-waisted skinny pants are another. Just dreadful.

I’m with Liberal. I just cannot get excited about any of the gals this year. To modify **Queen Tonya’**s list:

I like (for voice and/or personality):
Carly

and to a lesser extent:
Amanda
Brooke

I don’t care about:
Syesha
Kristy
Asia’h
Ramiele
Kady

I was distracted by making dinner and didn’t watch them all closely, I did listen, and the only ones who stood out for singing were Carly and Brooke, although Carly always looks like she’s in pain. The rest ranged from bad to fine, but I don’t remember any of them well enough to comment further. Any of them could go home and I wouldn’t care.

Amanda, however, is an interesting case. Although she certainly performed the Joan Jett well, her weird jerky dancing is aimless and makes her look like she’s just trying to fill the space (much like David Cook’s pointless guitar-playing). I think there’s a big lack of confidence there. While the judges gushed with praise about her finding her niche, they are sure to get all over her ass for not ‘trying something different’ or ‘showing her range’ next week. Which of course is stupid because she doesn’t have range. She stands out a bit for having a modicum of personality, but if she really wants to stay she better stop looking like someone just died every time they point a camera at her.

I can’t even think of ten contestants I like enough to make the top ten, but here’s my ideal top three:
David A.
Jason C.
Carly

After that, I really don’t care how it falls out, though I do hope Gay Danny stays around a little longer, he’s fun.

Best act of the night: Paula.

Otherwise, the women were mostly forgettable. Carly stands out somewhat, the others not so much. BTW, am I the only one who thought Ramiele dressed like a secretary at a third rate lawyers office?

Predictions to go: Kady and Syesha (or Kristy)

Agree that the women suck (and still think David A. does as well - I feel I need to add that as often as possible, with all the love the guy’s getting). The only one who impressed me in the least was Brooke - not because she’s got a great voice, but because, unlike pretty much everybody else in the competition, she knows her limitations and chooses songs that play to her strengths. I wish the other contestants were as self-aware.

Really, what is up with Amanda? She just did not want to be there. Do you think she’s getting tired of all the AI hooplah? Could it be the DUI crap made public?

Also why does anyone even watch Paula? I just immediately fast-forward over her (I tivo AI, and begin watching at 8:30PM so I can FF over everything meaningless. I end at 9 usually :dubious: )

Man, have you not been reading? Drunken Pauler is the best part of the show! The day she 'arf’s like a seal like the above poster said or, better yet, slides under the table, is the day AI should win an Emmy.

100% agreed. Where were the REAL songs of the 80’s? Any of these kids ever heard of the Smiths, new wave classics? Sheesh! We trust them with our future…what is the world coming to?!?

For the first time, I thought Carly’s hair looked AWESOME. Hated her high-waisted buttony sailor pants. They didn’t match the top at all and high-waisted pants are just horribly ugly to me.

I don’t know why people gloss over Paula. Yes, she takes a while to get around to what she’s saying, but it’s because she’s verbalising her thought processes - thinking aloud. Once she gets to the point she almost always has a salient thought, and seems much more musically aware than Randy or Simon. She often has very specific (and apt) observations regarding the timbre of the voice. And she fudges because she doesn’t like to say anything negative, and always tries to say something positive that is true (resorting to commenting on looks if necessary).
