Word I’d like to see banned from AI: pitchy. Just say the damn kid was flat or sharp in some spots, “pitchy” sounds plain dumb to me.
I agree, Nikko was flat a couple of times, but not enough to make me think he’s doing a bad job. I thought he was great.
Anwar + puppies = heavenly. His voice is just so smooooooth.
What pisses me off is that the judges said Constantine was in tune. NUH-UH! Oh man did that pain my ears, he’s all over the place! And, like many have said, please stop mugging for the camera. When he slithers over the mic and stand and smirks for the camera, I just feel dirty. And not good dirty.
Travis…yeah, bad choice. I think Simon said that he came off first as a dancer and second as a singer, and I have to agree. We get it, you can dance, but the singing is lacking.
*Who I’d like to see off: * Constantine and Travis Who I think will go: Constantine and Anthony. I don’t know why about Anthony, it’s in my gut. I didn’t think he did poorly, I just had felt like this was his last time.
Well I just did some serious voting for Scott. I got through every single time the last hour. Hopefully, he’ll get enough votes to stick around another week. I’m convinced that it’ll be longer if we can get past this week since he’s a heckuva lot better than most of the girls left in the competition.
This was the first time I actually listened to Anthony sing. I find him so bland that most of the time I listen to a few seconds of his singing and then FFWD to the next singer.
I hope it’s Travis and Constantine… I don’t think Scott has chances of winning, but he’s definitely good enough to last longer, at least longer than Constantine.
I’d send Nikko and Travis home. . . and I’d shed a tear for Travis because he’s really cute. But both these guys were way out of their respective tunes. Even Constantine sang better than they did. I just don’t understand all this raving over Nikko! Couldn’t anybody else hear how off-key he was? GEORGIA ON MY MIND must be a deceptively difficult song.
try www.allmusic.com. You can search the title of a song, choose the one you’re looking for off the list, then click the date column to sort by that field to see who did the earliest recording. In this case , it was written by Barry Gibb and first recorded by The Sandpipers in 1967. Then The Lettermen and The Bee Gees’ recorded it in 1971. Michael Bublé didn’t put out a version until 2003, after dozens of other artists, most notably, Al Green, who seemed to like that song an awful lot, given how many albums of his it’s included on.
Tonight’s show was excellent. This season is frustrating because there are so many talented people, and if the right people go home this week (Travis and Constantine), after tonight it’ll be a tougher call. Anthony bores me and I’m not at all enamored by Mario, but Scott, Bo, Nikko and Anwar are all great singers, and any of those 6 guys could conceivably have good careers in the music industry. It’ll be hard to see any of them go (and either all, or all but one of them will, seeing as how there can only be one winner, afterall).
I sure hope the girls don’t bring the suck again tomorrow night.
If the voters do the right thing and get rid of Travis and Connie (I fear that Constant Cheese is going to be this season’s nuisance contestant who somehow hangs around week after week pissing everybody off) the most of the guys should be ok for a while. The men’s fiels is so much better than the women’s that after the final 12 gets going, I think at least the first three or four off the Island will be women.
I disagree with people who say that Bo’s start was shaky. Not evey song is supposed to come out of the gate with intensity and volume full on. And Randy’s comment that Bo should always use some sort of snarly growling voice was ridiculous.
Yes, but please let’s remember that these are probably the same voters who kept Carmen-the-Goat-Girl and that wretched Kimberly Caldwell around for like a hundred years past their expiration dates.
Is it just me, or is Randy just ridiculous in general this season? I mean, more so than usual. He must have taken his Paula Pills or something because he’s been making about as much sense as she does.
Anwar’s performance was so moving, that while I was watching it my husband looked over at me and said, “Oh my gosh, are you going to cry?” I guess I looked a little emotional
I was fully unimpressed with Nikko. There’s just something about his personality that rubs me the wrong way. He always seems “too” serious.
Mario just always seems to be doing the same music, the same singing style, the same moves. He’s too “AI” for AI, in that he’s the consummate pop singer/boy band wanna-be. AI seems to be craving somebody out of the box – Bo, Anwar, etc.
Carmen the goat girl was from the second season with Clay and Ruben. Simon pimped her like crazy. I believe she was his wild card choice, and pulled her out of absolutely nowhere. She got the goat nickname because of her vibrato.
I didn’t like Bo at all tonight. Don’t hit me.

I thought the best performances were Nikko and Anwar. Constant Cheese and Travis should go home tomorrow. I really wanted to keep Travis around, but I know it’s over and I’ve come to terms with that. I’m afraid that it will be Scott going home with Travis. If anyone besides Constant Cheese has to go with Travis, I hope it’s Anthony.
Oh, and Anthony may be cuter than Clay, but he doesn’t hold a candle to Clay’s voice.
I’ve been lurking on the AI discussions all season, and thought I’d share my dialing experience from last night…
Out of curiosity, I dialed everyone with about 20 minutes to go. Just once. The only busy signal in the whole bunch was Bo. Which is a good thing.
I took the opportunity to vote several times for my other fave, Anwar. But I don’t think getting through for Scott necessarily means that he’s off.
Yep, I agree, so at least we’ll get to be entertained by them for a while. But eventually they, too, will have to start falling off. I wouldn’t really miss Mario or Anthony, but they’re both good singers, so when they do go, there won’t really be the kind of satisfaction that comes with seeing really poor singers/performers get rightfully eliminated. And although there are several women who certainly deserve to be voted off before any of the remaining guys, there are a few really talented girls there, too; Carrie, Nadia (though her voice has a limited range, she’s still a really good performer), Jessica, and Vonzell. Not that I think any of them are better than any of the guys, but there’ll come a point where people are only eliminated because someone’s got to go, not because they suck, as did Carmen Rasmusen, Kimberly Caldwell, Camile Velasco, Leah Labelle, Corey Clark, Jon Peter Lewis, etc. This is turning out to be a surprisingly good season.
I would say I like him “at all,” but I do think he’s overhyped right now. It must just be because it’s good to see someone who’s a little bit rock and roll on the show, and he’s as good as a lot of “pop alternative” singers. He’s one of those guys who’d be better off not winning – he’s got the benefits of exposure, but won’t be stuck with AI’s crappy contracts and albums.
I’m convinced that the live mix and the TV mix are different. Or the fan’s in the room drown out some of it. Or the fan’s energy makes mediocre singing sound good. And that when, as Simon says, they “watch it back” they realize how stupid they sound saying that Constantine is any good.
Travis completely stunk up the joint tonight, as did Conjob Smirkpants. In fact, when Travis started doing the beatbox while wearing that beret, I immediately thought of Fred “Rerun” Berry. Not the best comparison for Travis. As for Conjob…ugh, what a waste. He reminds me of a somehow smarmier Robert Downey Jr. Again, not a great comparison. I’d love to buy him for what I think he’s worth, and sell him for what he thinks he’s worth. Bet I could retire.
Nikko…I just don’t get him. First, I don’t think he’s that good of a singer. I thought he botched ‘Georgia’. But more troubling, he changed his name…to Nikko. Nikko. Why would you change your name to the same name as the Wicked Witch’s head winged monkey from the Wizard of Oz?
This poll: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7122613/ has Constant Screech running in third place behind Bo and Anwar. What is wrong with people? If this holds true, he’s going to be in for next week, unless Sting hunts him down and kills him first.
If he does indeed survive to sing again, I’m hoping that Simon will abandon verbal criticism in favor of jumping onto the stage and physically pummeling him. That’d actually be make keeping him worthwhile, IMO.
