Nutty Bunny and riserius1, you are right. I dug out my copy of Voices and listened to H&O’s version. So I’ll amend my comment to “They are equally good in their own way.”
I think the reason I liked H&Os version less than PY’s is that I was a kid, and if a song didn’t have a beat, I couldn’t really get into it. Now that I’m all gwowed up, I can fully appreciate the Philly style you referred to.
And I think the reason I was so charitable towards Anthony last night is that I just love the song, and if someone doesn’t totally ruin it, they’re automatically good. It was the same way last season when Jasmine did “Breathe” by Faith Hill, another song that I don’t care who sings it as long as I get to hear it.
This week the results show is one hour long and the bottom three will be forced to sing their favorite song before being told who’s out.
In Nadia’s defense, I’m not entirely sure that Paul McCartney isn’t a little bit “flexible.” After all, he wrote that dreck she sang. And, “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” isn’t sung by Maria (Julie Andrews), but by Mother Superior (who was, incidentally, played by a male actor in one production I was in, because he was a killer tenor, and he did a great job with the song).
I know. I was hurt too. Still, my chances of running into him in a club where he’s performing and having a real life “Killing Me Softly” moment before he realizes exactly how much he needs me in his bed are just about the same whether he’s straight or gay.
Last night was the first night I have ever watched “American Idol.” I swear. So here’s my critique:
Never heard of Nadia’s song (never having bought a Crystal Gale album) but I thought she was a pretty good singer.
I’ve read in magazines that *Bo is Simon’s favorite. Honestly, I didn’t see it. IMO, he had neither charisma nor a particularly great voice. Maybe it was a bad week for him.
I was distracted by how attractive Anwar was. I hate when people sing and wink at the camera, though. It’d be a shame if he’s gay (for me, anyway).
Vonzell is darling, but she didn’t look comfortable walking up and down those over-sized stairs. I kept thinking she was going to slip out of those shoes and go splat.
Scott. He couldn’t find his key. And he doesn’t have stage presence. Good for him for trying.
Anthony He reminded me of one of those singers that sing in amusement park revue style shows. Cute, but not a stand out.
Carrie - She was a refreshing change from Scott and Anthony. She did seem nervous.
Constantine - He didn’t nail that last note, dammit (before the "Any way the wind blows denouement). Other than that, I thought it was a great performance. Except the Gene Simmon’s tongue wagging thing. I could have lived without it, but I’ll forgive him because the song was rocking.
So when do we see the results? Tonight or next week?
She was really scary last night. She seemed to be dancing more wildly than usual. I think I saw her stumble several times. Did you also see at one point she grasped at the table on her way down and her hand slipped? My goodness. Either she’s getting worse or I’m just noticing it more because you naughty people keep pointing it out every week.

I just saw that cingular commercial. Shouldn’t Williams Hung’s 15 minutes be over by now? What’s he doing in that commercial.

Assuming that the Great Architect exists, He is busy overseeing the collapse of hydrogen clouds into stars, ensuring that the expansion of space/time continues on schedule, and nurturing the emergence of life on uincounted planets in galaxies throughout the universe. . . so I doubt His plan for creation includes guaranteeing you win the teen text vote this week.
I, on the other hand, want Scott to get his woman-beating, overstuffed, gangsta wanna-be ass back home.
Know how Anwar just explained about not over-intellectualizing, allowing himself to ‘feel’ the song instead of think his way thru it, less head more heart?
Scott needs to do the reverse. If he slammed that pointy stubby little finger into his chest any harder every time he sang the word ME in “Take a look at ME now” he’s gonna be bruised. :rolleyes:
