American Idol 4/15 and 4/16

Eh. Dumb stunt, but par for the course for this show. Given how this season has gone, I wouldn’t have been the least bit surprised if Cook was in the bottom three. Wouldn’t have made a lick of difference in any case. (I did mention something about starting from zero every week, right?) Not worth my outrage or elation.

I like that Archie didn’t comply with this idiocy (and as far as I’m concerned, the only right choice is no choice), but sitting in a huff is getting a little played out. C’mon, people, you have the spotlight, have some fun with it! Look from group to group and make lots of really hesitant steps. Casually ask for a hint. Go through a fortune telling routine. Speechify. Say “I don’t know.” (And when pressed, go “Erm…ah…dang, still no idea.”) Demand a consultation fee. (“Twenty bucks! Just twenty lousy bucks, man! That’s nothing!”) Trust me, having a sense of humor never cost anyone votes, and it could be just the edge you need against an equally skilled singer who’s lacking in personality.

Please save us from the celebrity mentors. If I wanted to hear an hour of shitty covers of one person’s oeuvre, I’d go see a tribute band.

With Andrew Lloyd Weber as mentor, David A should hit it out of the ballpark. Would he dare to do a transgendered “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina”?

I can see Carly doing something like “Take That Look Off Your Face.” because it’s such an angry song.

Syesha will undoubtedly pick “Memories” because she’s already taken on Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.

I’d love to hear Brooke sing “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” from Jesus Christ Superstar.

David could rock out “Jesus Christ, Superstar.”

Jason…? Hmm. I’ll have to think on that one.

“Any Dream Will Do” for Jason.

I hate ALW, but I have to admit – there are some songs a singer can sink his or her teeth into. It could be a good episode.

That’s totally what I was thinking.

Again with the saying what I’m thinking. It’s getting creepy.

I’m sort of ashamed to have given it this much thought, but David A should do “Love Changes Everything.” He’s the only one adorable and sincere enough to pull it off and he could actually sing it well.

I’d like to hear Carly take on “Anything But Lonely.”

Syesha will choose something that should never be sung again, yes. I’m with you on Brooke and David.

I would have loved to hear Michael Johns do either “Superstar,” or “Oh What a Circus,” but I can’t always get what I want.

ETA: Thank heaven Kristy Lee is gone because I didn’t want to hear whatever she was going to do. (Think of Me? There’s One More Angel in Heaven?)

David C could also do a pretty creepy and ironic “Sunset Boulevard,” if he wished. (You think I’ve sold out? Dead right I’ve sold out! I just keep waiting for the right offer. . .)

I actually like Andrew Lloyd Webber, so there :stuck_out_tongue:

I hated David A’s performance. I didn’t expect to like any of the performances tonight (and I was right) because I think Mariah’s songs are the most boring crap in the world and I despise her style of singing. All those runs and bullshit just annoy the crap out of me and are the sole reason I didn’t watch a single episode of AI until last year. David A’s performance epitomized everything I loathe about that type of singing/song. Hey, can you cram 74 notes into one syllable? claws at ears The other thing is that he seems to sing from somewhere in his upper throat/sinuses rather than his lower throat/chest. It’s not quite nasal but it’s close, and it irritates me more and more each week. I think it is because he’s young and hasn’t had the proper training or something.

I have to go watch the episode again because I kept falling asleep. Yes, it was a boring episode, but I also watched it at about 4:30am as a way to wind down my brain after writing 6 pages of an essay that is due tomorrow. Heh. So I was really tired to begin with. I can’t remember much else so I’ll rewatch.

Tons of meaty, juicy stuff from Phantom of the Opera. But I’m guessing people might pick the more obscure songs, except for David A., who has “Memories” written all over his adorable yet strangely rodent-like face.

Am missing Michael J. so much. My mind went fuzzy at the thought of a Michael/Mariah sandwich, with me in the middle of course. I think she’s looking GOOD (and yes, I’m of the female persuasion)

I love Jason. Love. Him. And whoever said they bet he has some weed on him, well we have been saying that for weeks now. What a cutie. Goofy as hell, but cute.

You’re right. He changes nearly every melody and adds boring runs to everything. I’m getting awful tired of him doing the same thing every week.

Not only that, but I’m also getting sick of a 17 year old preach to me with songs containing “good messages.”

OK…both the initial group sing and Mariah’s new song seemed to be about saying goodbye to dead people. Cheery. Is this a recurring theme with Mariah? Does she have some Issues to resolve?

In an interview with Oprah, Mariah said the new song was written about her father’s death. The group song, “One Sweet Day” was released in the mid 90s and I have no idea if it was inspired by anyone in particular.

I told my wife this morning that I wanted David Cook to do the usual treatment to “Memories” – you know, slow it down and make it more emotional.

I think Carly should do “McCavity” from Cats.
