American Idol - 4/27

Just TWoP gossip, and I can’t find any verification, so it’s probably bullshit. However, if it were my son, I would also seriously consider removing him from the show. No kid deserves the kind of abuse this poor kid from the media.

Sigh. So much for my promise. No kid deserves the kind of abuse this poor kid got from the media. Seriously, the media are such a strident bevy of seals, sometimes. Once the meme of the week was about Jennifer Hudson getting kicked off, every self-proclaimed entertainment expert in the country was on the bandwagon.

Thank OG, Thank OG, Thank OG, Thank OG!!!

Though I’m not happy that freaking Jasmine got more votes than George. Something’s definitely wrong with that picture. Oh well, at least the right one got sent home tonight. <whew!>

Not according to your previous post, where she was in the bottom 3 in weeks 2, 4 & 5.

George hasn’t had a good performance in about four weeks.

I was out tonight and had to record the show. I haven’t yet watched it past the point where they told him he was off.

Bye bye, my sweet red-headed guy
You got fangirls powervoting with a wink of your eye
Some people were mean but they did not make you cry
Johnny, you will always be my A.I.
You will always be my A.I…

I’m crying. I’m crying so hard. Why, why couldn’t he have gotten just one more week?

Is this my fault? Because I shot my mouth off about his getting threats, and scared people away from voting for him?

I’m not watching any more this season. Seriously, it’s not like “That’ll show you, Fox and 19Evil!” but just because I realized last night that if it wasn’t for him, I would have lost interest long ago. The week before last, Mr. Rilch told someone on the phone, “No, I’m not watching wrestling; we’re watching American Idol, or, as it’s known at our house, The John Stevens Show!” I have no more interest. I bear no ill will towards the other contestants, but I’m not watching any more.

I feel like I just saw a puppy get run over. Godspeed, John. I hope you end up remember this as where it all started, not where it all began to go wrong.

You think a kid with a stable and loving family doesn’t have much of a life? Bizarre.

If it really is Big Band next week, I’m going to be pissed.
I know John’s voice really wasn’t very good, and I knew he wasn’t going to win, and I know it’s a miracle he was around this long. So why am I so sad?

Now that it’s all over, I’ll admit I voted for him this week. I got through four times with ease, then decided to go do something else.

Interesting to see the recap of Bottom Three’s – that Diana’s been there three times, and LaToya twice, since they’re going to be the Final Two.

My prediction: the remaining boots, in order:

  1. George
  2. Jasmine
  3. Fantasia
  4. Diana losing to your new AI, LaToya.

Because he got one more week five weeks ago. And then one more, and then…
Really, honestly, even you should be able to see that. Sorry. :frowning:

My predicion is that the winner of the show will have a very short and unmemorable career.

No, I didn’t quite say that, did I? Having a loving and stable home life is very important, but being able to grow up and make a life for yourself outside of your family is also very important. My point was that from the bio it seemed that his entire life revolved around his parents, grandparents, etc. And if you ask me that is not healthy for a 16 year old - he should be out with friends, playing sports, getting a girlfriend. My children having a loving home and the confidence to make their own lives outside of my house, and I’m very proud of that. No apron strings for me

I stand corrected :smack: Guess I just thought they played a stronger role overseeing game shows/competitions.

Reason I say that is, next week is Big Band, and they’re also going to show in-depth profiles of the final five. They recorded his…the other fangirls and I are trying to see if 19E will at least sell it to us. That’s all we wanted. We were pretty much in agreement that he couldn’t take much more of this, and would have been happy to see him leave after next week.

What I see is that if he’d been cut after week 3, when everyone was sure it was over for him, I wouldn’t have taken it so hard. You may disagree, but I thought he redeemed himself with “As Time Goes By” and again with “Mandy”, but that just got me more attached to him.

This just wasn’t his thing, that’s all. I am among the people who will buy a CD of his if he records one, because if he’s in a studio, and can do multiple takes in a relaxed atmosphere, that’s when he’ll shine.

Just because he’s not gonna be the biggest star in the worrrrrrrrld…bam! the worrrrrrrrld, doesn’t mean he’s utterly without worth. He can find his niche. That will be enough for his hardcore following, and others will be free to ignore him.

Rilchiam, you might want to check out http://www.ilovejohnstevens.com.

I think the departure was surprisingly emotional, with even Paula tearing up and Diana and Jasmine totally losing it… no other contestant got that kind of respect that I’ve seen. I think JS should write his college entrance essay about this, entitling it “How I divided America and Made All the Girls Cry.”

I’m looking for verifications of rumors that he was contacted by the Sinatras with well wishes… I think that would be a huge boost to the kid after a rough week.

This made me grin.

skutir, I know all the sites! But thanks anyway.

I really did not like this guy up until he gave it everything he had on “Crocodile Rock.” Imho, it was a terrible performance, and he didn’t get any better with “Mandy” and whatever he sang last Tuesday. But despite thinking that he had no business in the top 12, I came to respect him for his effort and genuinely nice guy personality. And as Simon said, he took every bullet thrown at him like a man.

But I think there is a William Hung factor going on here. I saw Hung close the show on Monday, and he was very charismatic. A lousy singer, but he has an honesty and integrity about him that many much more talented people could only wish they had. Stevens has the same qualities.

If John Stevens gets a record contract, it will have to be done “Gary Lewis Style” Who is Gary Lewis you ask. He’s one of Jerry Lewis’ sons who formed a group called Gary Lewis and the Playboys in the 60s. Apparently they had to over dub, and do just about every other trick in the producing/engineering book to get a decent vocal on record. And they had several catchy hits. The name recognition helped, and like John Stevens, he was a real stand up guy.

But I doubt he will get a record contract. If Entertainment Tonight does a “where are they now” in 2014 for John Stevens, he’ll have graduated from the University of Somewhere, be married with two kids, working for an Insurance Company, and singing at weddings on the weekends. And I bet he’ll very happy.

It looked to me like this kid spends Saturday nights playing Yahtzee with his grandparents. That’s what’s bizarre.

Rilch, with all due respect, (I know I’m not going to make any friends here…) get a grip. You are a grown-up gal, he’s a 16 year old boy.

If you were a guy obsessing like this over a 16 girl on a tv show, someone would be calling the authorities!
