Fantasia knows that many people hate her, so she knows that no matter what she does, people will hate her anyway. Her call out to Jennifer was basically a huge middle finger to those who hated both her and Jennifer.
It was also a good way to get some Jennifer votes, but it would only work on those who liked Fantasia to begin with, like say…me. Heh.
Diana – cover of a cover. Put me back to 1976 when Vicky Sue Robinson did the original version. Diana’s best performance of the competition, and easily the best of the night, despite the dress.
LaToya – Good, as usual. But she didn’t have the power to keep up with the band. Hard to hear her.
Fantasia – I agree with the judges. Good performance, average vocal. Not a cartoon like Simon said, though.
**So So- **
Jasmine – Like they said, pleasant
**Not so good – **
George – This guy really needs to get back on track.
Apparently John’s mother doesn’t want John to be subject to more public criticism and death threats, and is taking him home. To save the show from losing a week of its run, I think they’ll just boot John and keep the real vote a secret, unless of course it really is John with the fewest votes.
At age 35, I don’t think I could withstand the kind of public shaming John has been subjected to and still perform with calm and poise. Say what you want about him, he’s never talked back, never mugged for a camera and held up “his number,” or engaged in any of the other tacky behaviors the older and less mature contestants regularly indulge in.
Makes me wonder what is so bad about all those teenagers voting for him… maybe they want their “idol” to have character, even if the media knows better, that their idol should be Britney and Justin, ONLY looks and talent, NO substance.
I’m sure there are FCC rules about that sort of thing and I’m sure Idos’s voting is somehow double checked by the FCC. Remember Quiz Show and the game show 21, the fact that the show manipulated the questions brought on a whole new set of laws for game shows.
I just think that John is way out of his league. To me he is like a blank slate, was probably never even noticed in class until he went to AI. I tend to think that he just may be chronically shy, not to mention immature and self-conscious, which is why he doesn’t mug for the camera, talk back to the judges, etc. I wonder just how much criticism gets through to him, I bet living in that house, rehersal etc. is a very controlled environment and I wonder just how much of the outside media they are allowed to see, or maybe only the good bits. And just why are all those teenage girls voting for him? He’s not that good looking, he really isn’t, not ugly, but just a ginger-plain personality-minus thing going on. I actually think he wants out, every week when he is safe he looks like he’s going to cry. I hope for his sake he goes tonight.
BTW, remember John’s bio at the very beginning? It was all about his family, family, family, didn’t seem like he had any hobbies or friends. Of all the contestants’ bios, he was definitely the most lame. Doesn’t seem like he has much of a life. Might account for the complete lack of personality.
First of all, could some kind soul on the East Coast spoil tonight’s outcome for me, like immediately after you find out? Warning: if you do not know exactly how to use a spoiler box, do not even attempt it; I don’t wish to be responsible for a spoilage fiasco.
Leah: Out right away.
Matt: Once completely safe, then out.
Amy: Bottom two, then completely safe, then out.
Camille: Completely safe, then bottom two, then completely safe, then out.
Jon Peter: Completely safe four times, then out.
Jennifer: Bottom two, then completely safe, then bottom two, then completely safe twice, then out.
George: Never even seen the bottom three.
John: Bottom two once, completely safe all other times.
Jasmine: Same.
Fantasia: Same.
Diana: Bottom three once; completely safe all other times.
LaToya: Bottom three twice; completely safe all other times.
Much as I think that John should have been eliminated a long time ago and certainly before Jennifer and after Jasmine, I’m just relieved. Big band night is next week? It should have been sooner.
No, that’s not the purpose of the FCC. They’re much too busy fining radio stations for carrying Howard Stern.
Seriously, I used to work in television. . . and that’s not the kind of thing the FCC does. They’re more concerned with local stations’ and their licenses to broadcast and general rules of station ownership, etc.
Well, if I’m interpreting subsequent posts right (seeing as how I’m not a fan of the show), you would’ve thought it a travesty if it hadn’t happened and a fix if it had. Which would you prefer believing?
It was definately Johns time. He has sang well on occasion but his confindence clearly got shot a while ago. I may have been hard on his performances on occasion but he certainly is/was a real class act. He has a nice tone to his voice so if he can stick to his particular genre, he’ll do just fine. I don’t think I’m saying anything earth shattering when I say this but his major flaw is his versatility, it’s as simple as that.
