Why isn’t Kristy gone yet. Martina McBride. Barf.
Castro sang the lyrics the way Yip wrote them, and I thought it was a fine treatment/tribute of Iz’s version.
ETA: My wife says one word is different that’s also different in the Iz version. She didn’t say which one… but I’m a huge fan of the Ella Fitzgerald version, which I’ve heard 1000 times, and I didn’t notice the difference. Even if there’s a minor difference, it’s a stretch to say he chopped them up or whatever. WTF. People just want to bitch. The kid did fine.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think I liked Kristy Lee’s voice tonight better than Syesha’s.
Well, Kristy won’t be going home.
Darn, I actually liked it.
Barely noticed Kristy. She’s been dead to me since the stupid Lee Greenwood song anyway. I liked her better when she was comically bad.
It’s not that I like to bitch, and Jason is my favorite performer. It’s just that I’ve been hearing that song since I was a kid, have probably sung it a thousand times myself, and so hearing the lack of rhymes was just very jarring. It was jarring enough that, not being familiar with the version he was covering, it really distracted from his performance for me.
And, to my surprise I didn’t hate Kristy, either. Except for that weird squatting thing she does sometimes. I really thought they’d broken her of that habit. But she definitely appealed to her audience tonight, without pandering it to it like she did a couple weeks ago.
Dream On was a really weird choice, he gave a decent kareoke Tyler impression but it didn’t make me like, care.
I’ll accept that those f’ed up lyrics were purposeful but it sucked me right out of the performance. Having never heard that version I was just sitting here agape wondering how badly the judges were going to shred him. I have no idea how he did, too distracted.
Syesha did great, on a sucky song. Randy almost said something meaningful and I loved her questioning him and showing some spunk.
Kristy did great, and even smiled, good for her. Not my choice of music, but an appropriate song for the theme, at least, and she sang it pretty well.
Kristy was good tonight. I still wish she’d go away.
“hearing the lack of rhymes was just very jarring”
I’ll have to listen to it again to figure out what you mean.
Here’s the Iz version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pe5p1BXNCQM
David Cook sucks.
I don’t recognize this song that Cook is doing. He sounds like himself. He’s got a good rock voice.
Along with a ukelele, I never would have believed Our Lady Peace would be on AI!
Hehe, David makes some cutely geeky faces when he sings, guess the hair sorta hid that before.
Cook was his charming self, but he’s had better nights.
If any of you can actually cite the Jason Castro lyrics side by side with the Yip lyrics, thanks. I heard the lyrics I know. It’s like you’re telling me you hate his shaved head. I’m like, what the fuck? I see the same hair I’ve seen every week.
I thought David was really bad. The sound was off and that didn’t help.
I think David Cook always sucks, so it’s nothing new to me, but tonight he sucked more than usual. The hand writing thing is ridiculous.
I can’t remember exactly, but it was something like
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.
Like I said, I wasn’t listening that closely, but I think that’s what he sang.
Carly still needs to put a shirt on.
She’s murdering Queen.
I’ve come to the conclusion that Carly should be filmed exclusively from the neck up.
These are just bizarre choices, we were all expecting gospels and we get OLP, Aerosmith and Queen? I’m dying over here, bwahahah.
Agree. He’s still my TV fantasy date. M.F. + D.C. is totally written all over my imaginary notebooks.
Carly…no. No, you didn’t get better at dressing yourself. And you chose poorly tonight. That wasn’t right for you at all.
You’re right. He must have forgotten a lyric. I didn’t even notice.
