American Idol 5/13 and 5/14

Is it just me or Syesha’s performance kind of hot just then?

Syesha didn’t really nail it. She stayed too close to the Peggy Lee arrangement to make it interesting.

If there was more of her singing and less of her talking, I might actually like Syesha a lot. Great song.

WTF, Paula? 'Fever" is EXACTLY who Syesha is an artist.

That might have been cabaret, but it was better than David A’s performance. I hate it when the judges prefabricate their reviews to push for the F2 that they want and ignore the actually quality of the performance. They want the Davids for F2, and they’ve scripted their criitiques accordingly.

Where are the complaints about “old fashioned” with David A?

Switchwhat?

The judges are obviously very uncomfortable with the idea of Cook ever choosing his own material. He would be much better off if he went home tomoorow. One more week and he’s chained to a contract singing drivel for the next two years.

I coulda picked better songs for all three of them.

Can’t watch this as I’m at work, but I figure if Johnny Cash can do a moving version of First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (and he did) then David C. should be able to make it work. Still an odd choice- I’d have chosen Hallelujah (if they can use it twice in a season) or perhaps if I really wanted to see change of pace creative challenge something upbeat and MoTown- I’ll Be There or You Can’t Hurry Love or some such. And to challenge Archuleta, something contemplative or heavy- The End or Cohen’s The Future.

And another song that should never be performed on Idol ever again. I hate this song. Is this what the producers think David C should be if he wins this thing? Pussified Aerosmith?

Seriously? “One of the great songs of all time”?

What was David’s last song? I switched channels during the commercial break and missed it (wasn’t gone that long… must have not have been a commercial…)

It was far less interesting vocally than Peggy Lee’s, and not a quarter as sexy.

Aerosmith’s Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.

It was very theatrical. I got the impression that she was auditioning for Broadway.

Week after week it winds up in the same spot. Archuletta is boring me to tears.
Syesha is sexy and shows some good range but she has nothing to distinguish herself from a herd of female warblers.
Cook can sing a variety and the choices today made him prove it. He is clearely the best and most likely to succeed.

Thank you, Archuletta, for stepping outside of your snoozy, ballady safety zone for your choice. And thank you for proving what I’ve long suspected – your voice is exceptionally mediocre when you’re not singing a snoozy ballad.

Exactly what I thought!
