American Idol - Finale

The three main oddsmakers have David Archuleta as the heavy favorite. That’s not predictive in any way; it just indicates how people are betting. And it would be a ludicrous conclusion in any case because David Cook is the Barack Obama of this contest. He is more mature, more interesting, and better prepared than his rival.

It’s his contest to lose. Barring a flubbed lyric with a badly off-key chorus and a shoutout to Osama Bin Laden, he’s going to win in a landslide. Syesha’s votes will not go to Archuleta; they’ll split in thirds — a third for A, a third for C, and a third being too pissed to vote.

Song choices will be posted when available.

In other news, Simon hates himself. You can view a portion of the Ellen DeGeneres interview at TMZ.

It’s Cook’s to lose? Say Whaaaaa? The winner is the person who gets the most votes = connects the best with 10-15 year-olds who are happy to call and text 1000 times. That has nothing to do with talent or preparation. It has everything to do with being a teenager, having a cute enough face and a non-threatening, aww shucks manner.

Archuleta has this without breaking a sweat.

Simon predicts David Cook to win.

Some song choice spoilers:

Singer’s choice:
David A – Imagine (Reprise)
David C – I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For

Clive Davis’s choice for each singer (rumor):
David A – Here I Am
David C – No Turning Back

Wednesday Duets:
David A & Neil Diamon – America
David C & Mariah Carey – Always Be my Baby

Selected past idols were invited to the finale, but not…

[spoiler]Danny Noriega

I’m looking forward to this finale more than any other in recent years. If these guys both bring their A-games (and I don’t know why they wouldn’t … they’ve brought it all season), this promises to be one of the best American Idol finales ever. It brings back memories of Clay and Reuben. I’m very excited. I have a laptop again so I might be joining you guys during the show for once.

For the love of all that is good and holy, PLEASE tell me David A isn’t singing the Air Supply version of Here I Am

I’m so excited for tonight’s finale too, yellowval. I’ll have my laptop fired up and ready. I agree that this will be the best finale since the first 2 seasons.

OMG, Liberal, are you serious about those spoilers? I would get all shrieky if David C sang the singer’s choice you listed. But the duet? Erk. Maybe I should give him the benefit of the doubt, but who chose that?

He’s already sung that on the show. This time it will be sung with Mariah Carey.

Yeah, that will be a big ole mess, if you ask me.

Yeah, it was cool-ish when he did it alone, but I’m afraid the duet will suck. But that’s post-voting, so whatever, right?

The song spoilers come from here. She has a very good reputation, and at least one insider who attends dress rehearsals and so forth. VFTW doesn’t like her, but they don’t like anyone other than themselves.

According to your link, *Here I Am * and *No Turning Back * were chosen by the Davids from the top 10 in the songwriting competition. Clive Davis’ choices weren’t yet known.

Okay, thanks, Nutty Bunny. That has been changed. She updates frequently, like all the time. Still, I thought the

coronation song

was the song,

written by a fan

, that they

sing when they win.

But the songs as she has them now are

songs already out there and published by other people

, aren’t they?

Why not? He already sang Dan Fricking Folgleburp…do you really think the abovementioned song will be more boring than Longer Than was?

Anyway, this one is going to be Cook in a walk. Dialidol will have him by at least 10% of the vote…no contest. The idea that it’s nothing by teen girls voting has got to be put to rest already…it’s just ain’t so.

Have to agree with Hal. I read some commentary today that credited a large portion of Idol’s success to its multigenerational appeal. I don’t vote, but my sister does, and she’s in her early 60s.

I wonder why Noriega wasn’t invited? (Can’t really see it as spoiler worthy.) I’ll admit he was a little bitch of at best moderate talent who trashed the show, but he’s not the first to garner any of those. (He needs to learn from Christian Siriano that you can only really pull off the bitchiness if you can back it up with talent.)

I don’t like any of the song choices, even the semi-legendary Archuleta Imagine

which in addition to having heard him sing before has probably overtaken Yesterday and I Will Always Love You on the “songs we don’t really need to hear anybody else cover ever again, no thanks, we’re good- love ya mean it!” list. No doubt he’ll play piano and Cook guitar tonight though; I did think letting the contestants play instruments at time added to the appeal. Pity they still won’t let them perform their own compositions.

I wonder if Archuleta’s dad has succeeded in getting a blue print of all of the ducts of the building yet in order to pull a Gillooly and get away in case Cook wins.

Wow. This is dumb.

The boxing intro was very very bad.

I’ve never admitted this before, and I hate, hate, hate his hair BUT…

Simon Cowell really is kind of hot. Just saying.

David Cook wins the award for Best Public Speaker, hands down. David A. looks like he’s about to crap himself.

I was just wondering if he wouldn’t benefit greatly from a Dale Carnegie course.

After that introduction, I really would like to see them settle this with their fists.

Cook doing U2: A little bit karaoke, but he did what he could with it. Not a very challenging choice.

I thought David A’s first song was pretty damned good. Plus it’s a fantastic song choice.
