Anyone here still watching?
Somewhat surprising to see Skylar go tonight. I figured the country-music fanbase would carry her to the finals.
So we have remaining:
Hollie - my personal favorite–she’s got great control and her voice sounds the most ‘polished’ of the contestants. But I understand why she’s often in the bottom–she’s just a kid, but when she performs she often comes across as much older and kind of dated. Like she’s trying to be Celine Dion, but this is 2012 not 1997. She made changes in the right direction last night, though, and her voice was–as always–terrific.
**Jessica **- similar to Hollie in a lot of ways, but with better stage presence. She’d probably be more comfortable singing pop tunes for the younger crowd than Hollie would.
**Phillip **- the likely winner based on the last several seasons of AI, and the fact that he is the only contender left who hasn’t ever been in the bottom 2 or 3. I like his voice, but he doesn’t have much personality when he’s not performing.
**Joshua **- even though I don’t like his style of singing (too shouty for me) I have to admit that Joshua is very, very talented. He was great last night and I could easily see him winning it all.
I think you mean 5/2-5/3. I don’t get the P2 love, Time of the Season was so out of tune I cringed.
I’ve been watching on and off, but did catch Tuesday’s show.
I think that Phillip is cute, but he’s not a great singer. He has more charisma than the other contestants combined, but his arrangements are sometimes too quirky for me. I thought it was funny that Steve VZ connected with him because Phillips’ look and facial expressions remind me a lot of a young Springsteen.
Honest to God, I don’t get the love fest for Joshua. Does he have an incredible backstory or something? He’s got great range, but he screeches a lot. I’ve heard way better voices out there, especially on Broadway. But Steve VZ and the judges were just bowled over by him, and he was given the plum final slot, so maybe it’s me.
Skylar reminds me of Reba McEntire. Let’s just say that I was invited to meet Reba and go to her concert a few years back, and I declined. I hate the twang. It makes her sound like she’s stupid.
Hollie - I think she’s darling. I loved her version of “Bleeding Love.” I thought it was hysterical that Steven Tyler hadn’t heard of the song before, especially given the irony of the AI connection. They put way too much eye makeup on her, though. It was like tarantulas were surrounding her beautiful eyes.
Jessica - she’s darling, too, with an incredibly great and powerful voice, but has less of an “X” factor than Hollie. Which is probably why she was sent packing once already. I can see Jessica at Walt Disney World, performing Disney princess ballads all day. Or maybe as Belle on Broadway. I might buy an occasional song (I loved her version of “I Will Always Love You,”), but would I pay to see her concert? No.
Which brings me to another point. I see no reason to lower the age limit to allow these 15 and 16 year old kids in the competition. Jessica would still have been good in a year, so why not let them mature a bit before throwing them into the mix?
David Cook is performing on Idol next week. YAY!
I was surprised to see Skylar go, honestly floored. I’m not a country fan (not that type of country anyways), but I really thought she’d win it or at the very least I figured she’d be in the top two. I really don’t think she deserved to go home this early. Even so, I think she’ll be destined to be as big as any other country star that’s come through Idol (winner or otherwise).
D’oh! :smack:
I’ll see if a mod will fix that for me.
