No, they wouldn’t cheat. It’s simply not worth the risk. The marginal benefit of cheating is a slight increase in ratings. The potential downside is the complete destruction of the show, the loss of millions of dollars, public humilation and disgrace, and becoming pariahs from the recording/TV industry. I don’t see any reason why they’d cheat; the voting system is constructed to keep the results close anyway.
I’m glad Josh is history. Kimberley will likely go next week unless she picks it up.
I’m impressed that the last three performers aren’t classic Britney/Justin hardbody-model types. Clay’s a geekus maximus, Kimberley is a big girl, and Ruben looks like he could eat Ryan Seacrest as an appetizer. It’s nice to know most of the votes are going to talent.
Aw, aren’t you so great, Mr. Superior. Shall we all bow to your highness now? Considering you had nothing of substance or relevance to contribute to what we were actually discussing, why don’t you just butt the fuck out?
REGARDING TONIGHT’S SHOW…
All I can say is I did my part in “fixing” the votes so Clay would be safe and Josh would be gone and I am doing the HAPPY DANCE now!!!
Next week ought to be a pure pleasure to listen to, and I can’t wait!
Did I mention that was the best product commercial EVER?!! I’d love to see that commercial played during regular programming. It was freakin’ hilarious and I had to play it several times because I enjoyed it so much.
Oh My Yes, Grace! My husband and I laughed our asses off during that whole thing! What a hoot!
Oh, and another thing, I also didn’t understand a single bit of that incoherent gobbledegook that Paula rambled. English? On whose planet?! Does anyone know what on earth she was trying to say?
I’m very gratified that Josh is gone. I think that maybe some of our initial assumptions that people were taking Ruben’s safe passage for granted is what led to last week’s scare were born out by this week’s results. I also think that the final two will definitely be Ruben and Clay, and that Clay has a pretty good shot at upsetting ruben in the final vote. I would be ok with either of them winning, and I imagine that all of the final three will end up with record deals anyway.
You know what I’m getting a total kick out of? Recalling Simon all slouched down in his seat and Randy rolling his eyes when Clay walked in for his audition in Atlanta. Then, Simon’s incredulous reply when he asked Clay why he was there and Clay said, “I’m the American Idol”. Simon: “Really? Did you see the first show?!” As if to say, “who do you think you’re kidding, geekboy?”
“Next week ought to be a pure pleasure to listen to, and I can’t wait!”
It certainly should be, but I personally think it would have been better if Trenyce were there. But, then again, maybe her coming in fifth is a blessing in disguse given what appearantly happened to Nikki.
Diogenes the Cynic, yea I’d be happy with either of them two. Heck, if I’d be happy if Kimberly L. won it. HEehehehe…
I, too, LOVED the Ford Commercial. Maybe it was the most entertaining part of the show.
The kids had trouble with the BeeGees medley. It was just a’ight, Dawg, but it just didn’t do anything for me.
I don’t mind that Josh is gone, but I do mind the way Seacrest handled the announcement all at warp speed: “JoshyergoneKimberlyyersafeCongratulationsKimberly” with the poor director at a loss of who to show on camera. Very tacky! Come on, gang! You’re supposed to make us feel sad that someone we’ve come to know and love is being kicked to the curb. Even if it is Josh. (His baby girl is cute and Thank God she didn’t cry when he sang to her at the end!)
You know, crow doesn’t taste too badly if you marinate it in Mayfield Turtle Tracks ice cream for a while.
I was completely wrong about the bottom two, and to my knowledge Seacrest didn’t say anything about a record number of votes. So I hereby acknowledge my mistake.
Feel free to heap shame upon me.
annieclause: I thought Rupert Murdoch owned Gannett. Did he at least start the company and sell it later?
Nope! He owns NewsCorp. Never had anything to do with Gannett (except to maybe have lustful thoughts about acquiring it, who knows? He’s such a wacky guy!) and you can learn more about Gannett by going here: www.gannett.com/map/history.htm (why wouldn’t the link transfer to this message???)
I loved the Ford commerical! Besides Josh finally being sent home, it was the best part of the show. Geeky Clay being transformed into pimp-tastic Clay was hilarious.
Shayna I agree, if Clay wins, Simon will need that crow recipe Sauron mentioned. Although, I must admit when I watched the audition show and Clay said “I’m the next American idol”, I figured he’d made it through to the judges because he was awful, like that “Like a Virgin” guy - until he sang anyway, then I knew better. Since I missed the 1st season, was Kelly disliked by the judges at first? If she was, maybe the judges need to rethink their criteria.
The “Josh yer out” did seem a bit rushed, even a bit harsh but I’ve noticed that Seacrest always seems to try to mix it up a bit. I guess he just decided to try something other than the usual dragging it out method like “Kimberly … 20 second pause you’re safe, Josh you’re out”. And let’s face it, the “Josh yer out” line had already been dragged out for several episodes.
Shayna > Thanks so much for that Clay link! I don’t go to the AI site much and it was great seeing a Clay only page. I enjoyed going back over the season and watching how much he has changed and grown in his performances.
I used to think that as long as Clay or Ruben win, then justice will be done, but I don’t think that anymore. I don’t have to look back at Ruben’s performances to know he hasn’t changed or grown. Ruben is a good singer but he is not a performer and if he couldn’t bother to work on his style or performance during this competition, like both Clay and Kimberly have done, I really don’t think he deserves to win anymore.
I missed the first episode so I didn’t see Clay’s audition until a few weeks later. I admit that if I’d seen the audition first, I would’ve had the same reaction as everyone else. As it is, I still am amazed at that boy’s singing. He’s awesome!
I wonder if there’s a place where we can download that Ford commercial. I’d love to play that for my co-worker.
Sauron, ya know, I don’t think anything would taste too bad if covered with Turtle Tracks ice cream – YUM! I missed this earlier; “I have apologized to you once in this thread already,” and I just want to say, accepted and appreciated. I apologize, as well, for getting a little heated in my replies to you. Now let’s dish about the performers, k? I don’t think you’ve said who you want to win. Am I going to have to spank you for that, too? :dubious:
I only saw the last 2 shows of last season, so I have no idea how the judges felt about Kelly, evilhomer. But I agree that, like Simon and Randy, I thought Clay was going to be another Keith (the “Like A Virgin” guy) and had pretty much the same reaction they did at first. It was a great set-up by the producers/directors, wasn’t it? And now it’s just so fun to see how wrong all of us were!
Tiramisu, you’re most welcome for the Clay link. I love that website! It’s especially fun to watch/listen to the judges comments about Clay as the show’s progressed. He has really put in the effort and I SO hope he wins!
Does anyone know if they’re going to have an episode where the judges pick the songs for each contestant like they did last year? If they do, wouldn’t next week be the one? If I were a judge, I’d give Clay a Tom Jones song to sing. (Every time that ridiculous dog beauty pageant commercial comes on and I hear Tom Jones’ “She’s A Lady” in the background, I totally picture Clay singing that song on stage!) He doesn’t have the hip motion that Tom Jones was/is famous for, but he’s sure got the swooning girls in the audience and I think a Tom Jones song would really bring out his sex appeal (even for a geekboy!).
Ok, I must stop now before I get myself all worked up and get my panties ready to throw on stage at him.
