I’m voting for Jordan. Melinda is surely safe as well, but I can’t be sure whether Blake or LaKisha is going home tomorrow.
Barry Gibb seems like a really nice fellow.

I think LaKisha will go home, because she doesn’t seem to have some big core appeal, where Blake probably has the teenybopper vote sewed up. Plus she’s usually boring.
The reason I think Blake is going home is because he’s more of a performer than a recording star. There’s a huge difference between watching a guy on stage and listening to a record. I just don’t think he’ll record well. But I do believe he’ll walk away with the groundwork for a very successful career.
I think Lakisha will go home.
Well, as I thought, the kids stunk up some good songs last night. Jordin was the best, and (I hate to say it because I love him) Blake might have been the worst. I’m hoping with all my might that Lakisha gets the axe tonight!
I thought maybe Barry’s upper lip was full of Botox and couldn’t be moved.
I don’t remember Simon LeBon dyeing his hair…
Wow, that sucked. And I actually like the Bee Gees. Anyhow, here are my rankings:
And in the category of: “You know you’ve watched too much ‘Idol’ when …”, I had a dream last night that Blake, LaKisha, Jordin, and Melinda were my BFFs and we all, like, had a slumber party to watch the results show. I snuggled with Blake. It was lovely.
That’s what I was thinking. The BeeGees songs are memorable for their unique instrumental production value. I don’t think their known to be great vocal songs with the trademark BeeGee high pitch nasal sound.
Once you take what is known to be a classic BeeGee song and let a live orchestra/band try to recreate it it going to sound KARAOKE/Musack before anyone even starts singing. And if the singers try to replicate the high pitch nasal style of singing they’re just going to sound silly. So they put some real vocals behind it and it’s going to sound, well, KARAOKE.
They were in a lose/lose situation trying to make the best of it.
Actually, yes she was off key. There were several passages when she was reaching up for high notes that she was most definitely singing flat. (Although she has my sympathies because that particular part of the female range can be tough to navigate.) I don’t like the word “pitchy” either, but usually the judges are right when they point out pitch problems. Frankly, they let a lot of off key singing go by without mention.
I thought Blake’s first performance was actually kind of cool. The second one, not so much. And I thought Jordin was awesome on both songs. Melinda was technically great, but she loses a lot of power in her voice when she sings softly.
I actually thought Lakisha was pretty bad. And she should never wear tight pants again. That first performance was hard to watch because of the clothing she wore.
I’d rank them like this:
I’d say Lakisha is most likely to go home. She and Blake may be equally at risk, but Lakisha should be the victim of vote splitting, wheras Blake is unique and has a style radically different from the other three. So if you don’t want a belting R&B singer, he’s the only choice. That should keep him around another week, but I don’t see how he can get past Jordin or Melinda (unless they really screw up next week), so it doesn’t really matter. I hope he stays though, just because he’s at least interesting to watch.
Lakisha, by the way, once again ignored the mentor’s advice (on the key change). With Melinda, I can’t imagine what more they want. I think people are bored just because they’ve acclimated to her. It’s a matter of expectations. She turns in a Tina Turner performance every time, and it’s just hard to improve on greatness.
And one more thing about Randy. Damn him. He bitched some time back about Blake not doing enough beatbox, which he avoided for several weeks in a row, and now that he does it, Randy is all “you don’t need to beatbox every time, dawg.” Jesus, he’s as useless as Paula sometimes. It pisses me off when their bullshit cuts off time from Simon, the only honest and coherent judge among them.
Yeah, that’s Randy for you. He tells the singers to do one thing, they do it, and he tells them to do what they were doing before. I don’t think he has any idea what he really wants to hear, or at least he can’t express it very well. Maybe what he really wants is a good, swift kick in the nuts.
It also pisses me off that Simon can’t say anything anymore without getting booed. Let the man speak, people. He knows what he’s talking about.
She chooses extremely boring songs to sing. I don’t care if Tina Turner herself sings it, if the song puts me to sleep, the song puts me to sleep.
Aren’t you then arguing that he’ll stay? We’re not listing to recordings – we’re watching performances, and no one on that stage performs better than Blake. Besides, a good producer can make anyone sound terrific in the studio.
Ahem:
Blake - blah. He doesn’t have a great voice; he’s surviving on gimmickry, which is boring. Melinda isn’t ‘boring’ - I thought her version of that song was amazing.
I agree that Jordin got way too shrieky in ‘Woman in Love’.
I’m sick to death of the booing. I was thinking last night that maybe they should have the singers go backstage to a separate room where the judges are sitting and get their scores there. They can be shown on screen but maybe if the judges weren’t right in the room the audience wouldn’t boo as much. It’s just gotten really, really old to have the audience yowling like a bunch of wild animals any time a judge makes any but the happiest and glowiest of remarks. If the producers are encouraging the boos, I wish someone would tell them to stop it.
I’m glad the Paula-Simon battles have quit; I was sick of seeing her smack him every time he said something to her, too.
Okay, so nobody but Hal and I liked her. You weren’t in my dream, but maybe you can come to our slumber party and be BFFs with us. You can’t snuggle with Blake though, he’s mine.
I didn’t hate it. I thought it was okay but I was really annoyed that she once again ignored the celebrity mentor. I also think she could have found a better song to sing.
I heard the radio DJ’s talking about AI this morning, they said Jordin and Blake are way ahead of Melinda and Lakisha. Melinda and Lakisha were so close that it could be either one. I know they haven’t had a very good track record this season but the large gap they have between the leaders and the followers makes me wonder if it could be true.
I think it should be Lakisha. I don’t think she’s a terrible singer but she can’t take direction or good advice. I don’t see her having much or a career with anything but gospel singing. But honestly, I won’t be upset if Melinda goes, I was never able to get too enthused about her. I think a lot of other people will be upset if Melinda goes and she doesn’t deserve to go home in 4th place but it happens.
Here’s my take on the final four, once all is said and done:
Holy cow that was terrible! I actually liked Blake. He’s not a great singer but he was the most entertaining. However, compared with BeeGees night on AI2…I normally don’t link much but Jordin’s version of To Love Somebody didn’t come close to Josh’s or Clay’s, not to mention Ruben’s version of Nights on Broadway or How Can You Mend a Broken Heart (which unfortunately I can’t find a version of).
