It sounded to me like the only ones we could hear were the backup singers, plus whoever was soloing. Maybe nobody bothered to learn their part this week.
This year’s celebrity mentor/performers have been an unfortunate parade of people you haven’t seen in 20 years, and for good reason. The one who came off the best – both physically and as a performer – was (surprisingly) Lulu.
God, I agree! Funny thing is, there’s always been a soft spot in my heart for her. I loved To Sir With Love. And everytime I see the scene of her singing to him, I cry like a baby. I’m just really glad she’s held up so well over the years, keeping her wits about her and continuing to grow artistically. I loves me some Lulu!
No big surprise there. She was the least talented of the 3 girls and the girl vote was bound to be split, with Blake still getting plenty of teenybopper votes.
I feel a little bit bad for laughing at his performance. All I could think about was Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake’s Barry Gibb Talk Show sketch on SNL from a few years ago.
It was so weird seeing Barry perform solo. I know Maurice died a few years ago, but what about the other brother whose name I can’t remember right now?
And Lakisha? I wagered Mr. Kiz that she’d leave over Blake. I was right!!! For some reason I started liking her less and less as time went by.
I think I read somewhere that those two have had a falling out.
Barry’s performance was lackluster, that’s for sure, but if you want to be truly horrified, watch Robin’s performance at the Miss World contest last year . It goes from bad to much, much worse. I guess Maurice must have been the glue for that group.
NuttyBunny, don’t feel bad. At random moments last night in our house, one of us would call out “I am BARRY FREAKIN’ GIBB!” when he appeared on screen.
So long, LaKisha. I was over her weeks ago. Her daughter’s adorable, though.
It’s mean to laugh about it, but I don’t care. Brian Phelps (of the morning drive team Mark and Brian, out here in SoCal) said this morning that he’s happy Barry got a gig so he could earn the money to buy a new upper lip.
Lakisha probably kept her votes but she did not capture Phil’s votes. Also, many people (me included-- from the beginning, actually) just didn’t like her. Hated her mushmouth much more than I hate Melinda’s no-neck.
I just want to say that I haven’t laughed so hard in, what, years?, decades? at Blake’s performance of “You Should Be Dancing”. Utterly hi-lar-i-ous. What with the stupid foot moves and the atrocious beat boxing. I have saved it on my DVR, and will use it whenever I’m feeling down.
