"American Idol" David Cook Shatters Billboard Records

This is an amazing story:David Cook Sizzles on Chart Debut

I don’t think this is quite the achievement some think - after all, the next closest is Miley Cyrus… But still. There’s some big numbers there, like 236,000 downloads in one week for “The Time of My Life”

The article also says his debut album will be out this fall. If it’s any good at all, it’s going to sell a zillion copies.

I’d never heard of him until reading that, of course I haven’t watched AI since a couple seasons ago, and don’t listen to pop radio.

Not terrible I guess. Are they allowed to have guitars and backup singers now? Don’t see him playing the guitar much.

control-z, yes, the AI contestants were allowed to play instruments this year. Cook did so more than anyone else.

Now, I’d just like to know how much AI made off of those iTunes sales…

This is the first year I was interested in the AI outcome. I’m very glad Cook won. Not only does he seem to be a capable, even interesting singer, but he’s coming across in all media as a genuine and nice person. (as far as one can tell). I would be tempted to buy some of his stuff.

and since my credibility is ruined anyway, may I note that his being cute as hell doesn’t hurt…

Required Cook viewing:
Lionel Richie’s Hello, Chris Cornell’s arrangement of Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean and a wonderfully stalkerish version of Mariah Carey’s Always Be My Baby.

Put 'em all together, and this season was no fricking contest.

I’d add Music of the Night to that list, since it was an eye-opening performance - he did Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber dead straight, and aced it. We all knew he could rock, but he showed us he was a singer/performer, period, with this performance. The live version is very good; the iTunes studio version is breath-taking.
