Reed and Heejun are my favorites, for pure entertainment factor. No girl has stood out for me. And seriously, Idol, no black girls?
I think that is part of what made it so irritating for me too. It smacked of entitlement.
People needing to get their priorities straight is practically the sub-title for this show.
I like Heejun too - I suspect he might be a bit of a drama queen or bipolar or something, but he is interesting.
So far the guys are not knocking my socks off - I still don’t know if I liked Phillip Phillips’ singing, but it sure wasn’t the usual version of “In the Air Tonight” (as re-visited by Dave Matthews).
The rest of the guys have sucked so far tonight - I’m fussy with my singers - I need them to not only hit the notes, but also have a nice voice.
(I hope people will forgive my multiple postings - if no one else wants to jump in, I’ll just talk to myself. )
I think I am really going to like Heejun Han. He seems like a real character - he just needs to let his weird personality out more. And DAMN, that boy can sing!
There’s a final 13 this year, which makes sense, as 12 weeks of eliminations puts the finale just before Memorial Day.
I have a gut feeling there’s one surprise left - they never said that the wild cards have to be from the top 25, so watch David Leathers Jr. get selected as a finalist. (The only reason I can think of why they wouldn’t; they’re afraid that he and Eben Frankewitz might take votes from each other, and I am convinced Nigel Lythgoe holds contestants back from the finals if he thinks they would have a much better shot of winning with “one more year of work”.)
Whew - the guy they called back wasn’t the Annoying Cowboy.
Actually, there is another reason I can think of for not choosing him; he’s 17, and, IIRC, the record label has had a problem dealing with parents of some of the 16 and 17-year-olds, so waiting until he is 18 might be a backstage move more than anything else.
I’m not sure many of them were even hitting the notes. They called Eben out on being pitchy (ya think?), but I’m pretty sure he wasn’t the only one. I noticed that twitter was full of comments about too much positive feedback from the judges during the first four or five guys, and then they started actually pointing out some of the weaknesses.
And Deandre? WTF was that?
I caught the end of last night’s show, with a snippet from each of the guys. I know it’s not fair to judge from a snippet, but based on the snippet, the last guy (#13, the large black man) was the only one I’d care to hear again.
The younger kid (Bieber haircut) was pleasant enough, but most of the others just jangled.
The guys all sounded better in auditions - none of them impressed me last night.
Yeah, that’s what I meant - there were a whole lot of pitch problems last night. Then the one guy who actually hits all the notes he was aiming for (Heejun) gets criticized for picking the wrong song.
ETA: And that was about the only criticism - the judges were really lining up to stroke all the guys last night. Made me miss Simon Cowell.
I was so confused by the judges praise of the first three, that I switched tvs. But they sounded worse on the good tv.
The most entertaining part was Stephen poking fun at JLo’s nip slip.
Brielle sucks.
So, they’re admitting that they were too soft on the guys last night? Interesting.
Hallie Day doesn’t suck. Her outfit, however, is very odd.
Jessica Sanchez was gorgeous tonight. I don’t care what she sounds like.
Skylar didn’t totally suck, but she sang a good song all countrified, so minus about 3 points for that.
Bailey Brown made my ears want to curl up and die. She’s got to go. ETA: Steven Tyler’s comment on her singing - “You’re very pretty.” Yup.
She has a helluva voice - please, someone teach her how to use it now.
I liked Elise Testone - she has an interesting voice.
I thought the girls/women were better than the boys/men, but still underwhelming. I was expecting better things of Jen Hirsh. (?) I hope she stick around long enough to see if she can redeem herself. I liked Hallie Day. Bailey? Wow. That was horrible.
I’d like to point out the the Magrane girl, whose name I can’t even remember, is the second child of a former St. Louis Cardinals player to make the top 24. Nikko Smith, from 2005, was Ozzie Smith’s son.
Got to see the results show now…
