As sappy as it is, I feel really good for the guy. He probably would have been better off coming in 3rd, but he looked so happy and surprised. He’s very easy to root for when he’s genuine and doesn’t try to make those affected facial expressions.

And for the record, I loved most of the show. You guys are jaded beyond words! 
It wasn’t all great, of course, but highlights for me, in no particular order:
ZZ Top! Even if David C didn’t get all dressed up.
Brooke and Graham Nash was awesome.
The duet with the two Davids at the beginning was very good.
David C’s Risky Business parody! Woo-hoo!
I love the new Carrie Underwood song.
David C getting all choked up at the end.
Simon backpedaling.

What he said to David was disrespectful and David didn’t deserve it and, for the first time, Simon doesn’t care who wins because they both deserve it, I’m sorry, etc.

Seemed like Paula blather that meant “I don’t wanna be the Big Pro Guy who called it wrong, so I’m officially changing my mind and hedging my bet before the big reveal.”
he also said he went home and watched the show again which gave him a different perspective.

I’m so glad Cook won. Who knows if it’s true, but he seems very genuine, a nice guy. He looked so overwhelmed there at the end. It was actually a moving moment - on American Idol (!wow).
We were running a few minutes behind due to dinner, dog walks, etc., so we were watching on the DVR as it was taping.

Of course, I fast forwarded through most of the glurge, but the DVR cut off was annoying as hell. I had to find out who won on the local news.
And that’s why when I set it to record, I tacked three extra minutes onto the end, just in case (and it still cut off in the middle of his song).

I had the whole season set to record, and it’s usually pretty good at tacking on a couple of extra minutes if the show runs long, so I didn’t even think of it.
