Any quick thoughts or predictions before the big event? LOL
I don’t watch it much so I can’t say. It’ll be interesting to see who is finally chosen

I thought they’d already announced them. Didn’t they hire J-Lo and Steven Tyler?
Cue the funeral march for “Idol” then, I guess*. Paula needed substance abuse (allegedly) to be a trainwreck. The non-chemically-enhanced diva-antics of J-Lo will probably have this off the rails by March.
And however much self-discipline and hard work he must have demonstrated to get Aerosmith to where it got to, Mr. Tyler doesn’t strike me as particularly reliable and stable these days.
*About time, too. By giving Melinda Doolittle the boot three years ago, American listeners showed that they don’t deserve to choose their own performing artists.
Wow, what a terrible lineup. Unless there is some magic chemistry there that we haven’t seen, this will be a train wreck.
I assume Steven Tyler is filling the Simon Cowell role of the tough judge who tells it like it is. He’s the big unknown here. If he’s great, maybe they can make it work. But I’ve never seen evidence of that from him in the past.
I know almost nothing about Jennifer Lopez, so I have no idea what to expect from here. Maybe she’ll get the Simon role. Steven Tyler has some potential. I’ll be watching because I love the show, with the added excitement of seeing whether this lineup succeeds or sinks the show.
Haven’t auditions for the contestants been going on for months now? I wonder who the judges were for those?
Wasn’t J-Lo a guest judge on Project Runway once (or maybe twice?). Anyone remember how she did on there? I know I watched it but it was so long ago I can’t remember and details.
This lineup does nothing for me. Maybe Tyler has shown them something in some dry runs or something, but unless he can bring some toughness and honesty, this show is now Star Search.
I really don’t like the idea of a “mentor” either. I don’t want to see them turn this into nothing but a cheerleading show. I think it may be over. I suspect the audience will follow Simon to X factor and Idol will circle the drain.
At least they got rid of Kara, though. That’s addition by subtraction right there.
Although not a fan of either, it does at least make sense to have real “stars” judging. They at least know the business from the performance aspect, and have proven ability and talent - even if not my personal taste.
Uggg…
And this is probably the end for AI…
What DMark said. Paula was a dancer. Simon was a–professional person with no musical talent who sez, “It stinks!”–even before he was on the show. Steven Tyler is the first actual successful singer to be a regular judge.
Probably just producers. From what I understand contestants have to go through several rounds of auditions before they get to see the famous judges that everyone knows and loves. And that could be weeks or even months after the initial auditions.
Tyler’s appearance will be distracting. The last couple times I’ve seen him, he looked like one of those plastic surgery gone wrong horror stories. Hoping he never performs on the show.
Not familiar with J-lo other than knowing who she is.
When is Simon’s new show based on his other show “The X Factor” going to be on?
Does anyone think this will be good? I don’t think I’ve seen a single positive comment (not just here.) Can the producers be that blind? Yes, yes they can.
I initially said it would be horrible, but I think I’ll reserve judgment. I was just thinking back to some other music judging panels - “The Next Great American Band” had Sheila E. and the guy from the Goo-Goo Dolls, along with some british producer I don’t remember. The surprise of that bunch was Sheila E., who always had something smart to say. I would never have guessed it.
Hell, even “Rock Star Supernova” had its moments. I quite liked Dave Navarro as the host/judge. So I guess I’ll withold judgment until we actually see them in action.
Anything has got to be better than last year, with Simon having mentally checked out already, Kara doing that creepy hanging all over Simon/flirting with the contestants thing, and Ellen Degeneres, who I thought would be a good addition, being totally useless.
So… wait and see.
Jennifer Lopez is probably the most talented person to be a judge on AI - she is a dancer, a singer, and an actress, and she’s been quite successful at all of them. How that will translate into judging/mentoring, I have no idea.
I am terrified at the idea of looking at Steven Tyler for two hours every week.
(If you want to read some funny shit about Jennifer Lopez, check out the Fug Girls writing as J.Lo. )
Yeah, she’s just hot in every one of those. Lady can take a photograph.
Especially when Cowell launches The X Factor in the US.
The mentors are generally a waste of air-time, but I thought that Harry Connick, Jr. was very good in that role. I had the silly hope that he would be one of the judges in the coming season.
