American Movie Classics, MY ASS!!!!!

Four words: Bachelor Party, Adrian Zmed.

Adrian Zmed!!!

It was bad enough that AMC was touting Predator and showing it 6 times a day.

Is it American?

Well kinda.

Is it a movie?

Oh, my yes.

Is it a classic?

FUCK NO.

But then, AMC forever crossed that line.

you know the one.

Adrian Zmed??!!

/John McEnroe/

You cannot be serious!!!

I understand that yeah, Tom Hanks is in it and he is one of the greatest actors of our time.

But you could have chosen Nothing In Common, 'cause that at least had Jackie Gleason as a co-star.

Adrian Zmed?!!?

Wait? AMC shows movies made after the mid-60’s? When did this happen? Admittedly, I haven’t seen it for a while.

I saw an AMC listing for The Secret of My Success the other day and did a double take. But it was a movie from the 50’s (I think) and not the Michael J. Fox vehicle, which, while amusing IMHO, isn’t a classic by any stretch.

The END of AMC as anything resembling a decent TV station began when they got rid of George Clooney’s father.

Well, i was watching this movie on AMC a few weeks ago about a bus that had to speed around a city, keeping its speed over 50, and if its speed changed, it would explode! I think it was called, “The Bus That Couldn’t Slow Down.”

Slight lyrical change to keep with this thread:

We’re the performers you thought were dead,
Like Bonnie Franklin and Adrian Zmed!
Branson’s the place we can always be found.
We took AMC and made it a town!

Y’know, the degredation of cable channels is already being discussed in the pit here:

They were showing “Revenge of the Nerds” on a couple days ago. Not quite classic classic…but classic in that it’s an American film. And they did show “Speed” too.

I saw it, It was, indeed, the Michael J. Fox vehicle.:frowning:

At least it wasn’t Robert Z’dar.

Rocky Horror was on AMC about a week and a half ago

But that is a classic.

When I woke up this morning, they were playing Hercules Goes Bananas (aka Hercules Goes to New York). Yes, Arnold Schwartzenegger. Playing…Hercules. Austrian accent included–which is odd, because I thought they dubbed over him. Maybe it’s a special Arnold-restored version? Anyway, that movie just yodels American Classic to me…

There was a thread on this a few months ago—I tried to do a search, really, I did, but after about 30 minutes of staring at the little pinwheel thing spin around, I gave up.

There’s a big long story about how AMC bit the dust: basically, they lost the broadcast rights to a lot of their old films (and you can blame Turner for that), which is why they started doing original programming and newer films. Now, a new owner has decided to change the format, and also start another “classic films” cable station, sometime next year.

Revenge Of The Nerds, Legend, Bachelor Party, China Moon, The Secret Of My Success, Speed. These are not classics, retooled network or not. I want old movies, preferably good ones, or at least fun bad ones. Not the 80s and 90s leftovers from other cable channels. If AMC ever airs that film turd The Brothers McMullen, I will quit watching it for good.

The earlier thread *Eve about is titled “American Movie Classics (1983-2002)”, it’s from May 2002. A search of Cafe Society should turn it up.

Dammit, I have got to learn how to link…

Here’s a link to your earlier thread, Eve: AMC (1993-2002)

(This early in the morning the hamsters are better rested)

BTW, I just upgraded my cable service to digital and as a result now get Turner Classic Movies. Unfortunately, I haven’t had much time to check out their schedule, so I don’t know how it compares to AMC Classic [sup]TM[/sup].

Are Turner Classic Movies and Turner Movie Classics two different channels?

On my cable it’s called Turner Classic Movies (TCM). There is a TMC, which is The Movie Channel; TMC shows nothing but movies and IIRC is a subsidiary of (or something) Showtime.

AMC now stands for All Moronic Crap. In the last few months the quality of their programming has fallen like a rock. They don’t even show the Three Stooges on a consistent schedule any more! :frowning:

Fortunately my cable system offers TCM as a regular cable channel, so I’m able to see stuff like “Double Indemnity” (which I saw last week for the first time) and other good films in their entirety.
