I thought Viktor’s act was better than his previous acts (except of course, he dropped a ball again). I thought the tricks he did looked more challenging, although not being a juggler I couldn’t possibly know for sure. In any case, I was very entertained by his act, it is too bad that he keeps dropping his balls.
Would I go see a Viktor show? Originally, I would have said yes, but three ball drops in three acts now. I’m not so sure. Again, I’m not a juggler. Maybe what he is doing is really hard (I’m certain somebody will post that what he is doing is very easy, and I will find that hard to believe). Maybe he’s pushing the envelope of juggling, although I don’t think so. But even if so, I think that it would be disappointing to watch a show where he keeps dropping a ball.
Sofie’s act was good, but I haven’t been a big fan since her second act. I’ve felt it is very repetitive, in a subjectively non-entertaining way, for some time. But I will say she is very good at what she does, but I would never go see a one hour version of her act.
I’d say it is likely a musical act wins. The Clairvoyants are the only non-musical act which has a shot in my view, although I think I liked last week’s act better than this weeks just because of the production. Last week has a very creepy feeling to it and was awesome!
Of the music acts, tough call. I think Brian, Sal and Grace all stand a very good chance of being the winner.
If I have to pick one, I’ll say Brian wins it.
P.s. - If you discuss how The Clairvoyants do what they do, please please please spoiler it. Please. I don’t want to know.
I was impressed that despite her interference he was able to time the ending with the music perfectly.
I got called away from the TV before the end of the act but the football player looked extremely nervous. His hands were shaking which is not good for sleight of hand. His patter was not entertaining.
I’ve only caught the show sporadically. Since Tape Face is from New Zealand and works in the UK I guess the title of the show is just a suggestion not a rule.
“America’s Got Talent…not necessarily from here, mind you, but we’ve got the talent!” Besides, remember that none of the four current judges are from the USA (Howie Mandel is from Canada).
It’s odd about The Clairvoyants. Paradoxically, they’re so astounding that they go beyond astounding and straight into boring.
I think it’s: because their act is not a magic act, and doesn’t involve sleight of hand or elaborate stage craft, there’s no guessing how they do it. The explanation must be completely mundane. They’re either truly clairvoyant (let’s rule that out) or they’re using planted stooges in the audience/judges.
The judges gave the football player way too much credit for his inspiration patter, which I thought was :eyeroll.
My opinion of Grace hasn’t changed. She may have a future as a songwriter, and her voice may develop into something listenable. But at the moment…no. Can’t stand listening to her sing. She has no range and mumbles.
I really like Sofie’s act, but I have to admit it’s limited, she certainly can’t do a whole Vegas show with just that. The young operatic singer seem very talented to me. The young man who hits those sustained notes has a great voice but to me he’s just working songs to hit those notes, nothing wrong with that really. Clairvoyants and long snapper have simple magic acts, done well, but certainly not what I’d call the kind of talent that should win. Tape Face is marvelously entertaining, but just doesn’t seem like an AGT winner. Sal did great again, but I think there’s too much competition for him to come out ahead, unless all the other split the vote and leave him with a core of support. To me Grace just seems to do the same thing over and over again. She’s writing her own songs, but I didn’t see a lot of range there, although last night she was a little different. I think this was a pretty good set of finalists this year though, maybe better than is typical for the show. The show is what it is, the right person always wins.
Grace’s voice is perfectly fine for that alt-rock style. It may not make her a household name but she could probably slice out a nice singing career without adding to her vocal range. Style range otoh she will have to develop. Only so many damn quick strumming ukele/earnest shouting songs people can listen to. But so far, she’s enjoyable enough and all the other singing acts have been pretty boring to me.
I like Viktor but you just can’t make one glaring mistake every performance. He’s toast.
After bringing in the pro group “The Illusionists” for the results show last week I don’t see how anyone watching can take the remaining magic acts seriously. They outclassed any of the contestants by such a huge margin.
Sofie is a favorite of mine. Just a beautiful performance and not just contortion for contortionism’s sake. And props for dropping the bow and arrow stunt.
Here’s the thing about Grace. She’s amazingly talented and self-possessed for someone so young, and she’s cute as a bug, sweet and humble and adorable. But most importantly of all, she possesses that mysterious quality known as magnetism or charisma or star power. People are just drawn to her because of who and what she is rather than being drawn to her primarily because of her songwriting or her voice or her singing style. And that quality of charisma is what makes careers in show business. If she doesn’t go off the rails and become conceited or a brat like Justin Bieber between now and the time she becomes an adult (or hits puberty and discovers boys), she is going to have a major career ahead of her.
I loved it when she was bawling her head off after having won and Nick Cannon for some reason stupidly asked if her tears were tears of happiness. The self-possessedness I mentioned came into play when she gave him the answer his question deserved: “Of course.”
OK, now the important question - why the hell was Nick wearing a turban? I was watching tape-delayed so may have fast-forwarded through an explanation.
Tape Face’s last performance was great. Watching him wander around in the background was even funny. Love that guy! I wonder if we can get him to do a tour in Canada?
Surprised Brian went out #4, I really thought it would be Brian, Grace and The Clairvoyants in the 1,2,3 spots. I don’t understand the popularity of Jon. Oh well, to each their own. The Clairvoyant’s final act was also great although I think they need to start asking their guest assistants if they can manage to read a series of six numbers that might have some ink through them.
All in all, I think Grace was a very worthy winner. I personally would have preferred The Clairvoyants, but I’m pretty satisfied with the outcome. The fact is The Clairvoyants will be in Vegas or somewhere similar very very shortly for certain, they have the perfect act for that environment and now they have the exposure.
Of the final 10, I would have been happy with any as a winner…except for Grace and the Clairvoyants. Needless to say, the dramatic moment of the big announcement was diminished for me.
