Amusing Signs

It’s right down the road (i.e. across 100 miles of trackless desert) from Peach Springs.

I’ve told this one before…

As a teen, my dad and I went to California City to pick up a part (or an instrument, I think) for his plane. As we drove, we passed a sign that said VICTOR WAY. I said, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if the next street was HUGO?’ The next street was HUGO WAY.

That cuteness overdose is worth risking.

They called themselves “Fuckingers”? Such a missed opportunity for a shorter and more pithy name!

bear in mind the germ. pronunciation is sufficiently different to not make this work

… and what you are imply would phonetically be: “fooker” (pronounced like hooker)

So, Fuckinger (sing. and plur.) it is!

My freaking ears!

Intentionally funny:

  • At opposite ends of U.S. Route 50:

  • Clover Dairy is known for their funny billboards, mostly in Sonoma County, CA. One of their best:
  • On a laundry in New Orleans:

Unintentionally funny:

  • Above a dumpster at my high school:
  • Next to an elevator at a BART station (BART is a commuter rail system):

I once went hiking in the woods and came to a little bridge over a lovely stream. I stopped on the bridge and looked over the side to see the stream. There was a sign that said “No coins necessary to operate stream”.

I guess people thought it was a wishing well or something?

I bet the German family name is heard often when customers find out the price of some of the merchandise!

From an Asian resuarant near me:

I used to pass this place often while I was living in Abu Dhabi. Never had the chance to stop in to sample it’s wares, now I kinda wish I had: Butt Sweet House - I have no idea! | I spotted this as we we… | Flickr

I recommend not ordering from this place too often …

And from the department of “you’re welcome” …

Pennsylvania has the more politely-named Intercourse, which is not far from Blue Ball.

I-40 though New Mexico has signs that say “Gusty Winds May Exist.”

I wonder if the winds had to fight for their rights?

I am aware of a common family name in some parts of Asia, I’m not sure what parts.  When rendered in the Latin alphabet, it’s nearly always rendered as “Phuc”.

If you’re aware of the Buzztime (formerly NTN) pub trivia game, you likely know that you register a user name and password. Maximum of six characters, and you cannot use anything profane, racist, or otherwise offensive.

A friend of mine registered the username MRPHUC. It took Buzztime three years before they realized what it said, and cancelled his registration.

Which, in turn, is not far from Paradise

If we’re talking Intercourse, Blue Ball, and Paradise, then we cannot forget the Newfoundland town:

Our own Tuba Diva mentioned visiting there was on her bucket list. I warned her I have been there. There’s not much there, certainly no tubas.

There’s a local chain of convenience stores here, one near me. Every time I pass by I start humming that Sesame Street classic, “One of These Things Doesn’t Belong here.”

ETA: Nuts. Zoom in to read the sign.

I would totally shop there!
