Sorry music fans, but it looks as though she won’t be making it to the Grammys after all.
Thread title love, ColonelDax.
It doesn’t make sense to me. Amy Winehouse certainly isn’t the first druggie musician who has flown in for the Grammy’s. Perhaps I missed something in the article, but I don’t understand what the problem is. Is it because of her legal troubles?
Not to fear. That’s why they make satellites.
Perhaps it’s because she’s still undergoing treatment for her addictions. Or because of an ongoing police investigation.
I also think they make allowances if you’re a really famous druggie like the Stones- she’s probably not big enough for them overlook her transgressions, especially when they’re so constant and visible. I’m pretty sure that’s why we haven’t seen Pete Doherty tour the US lately.
Or should that read ‘really big money-maker for each location you visit’?
No lie, after I posted I thought of that exact sentiment, but missed the edit window.
Do the stones have felony convictions? For that matter does Amy Winehouse? The US has been preventing people with felony convictions from entering the US in the last few years as part of the war on terror. This has lead to tit for tat border controls with other countries. Last time I visited Canada people in international falls were bitching about this. Guys that have been going to Canada for years on fishing trips being denied entry to Canada because of old DUI convictions. And guys in Canada being prevented from entering the states for similar reasons. All in all a big clusterfuck that does little to keep people safe but makes it look like the government is doing something.
I thought there were various reasons you could be denied- I can’t recall specifics, but weren’t the Sex Pistols denied just for being undesirable at some point before or after their brief tour? IIRC there’s also some terminology where you can be denied if you’re just not that big a deal.
This has nothing to do with 9/11, though. A friend of mine has not been welcome in Canada since 1994.
Well, duh. He’s a friend of yours…

Behind the Headlines
BRITISH TABLOIDS TO HOMELAND SECURITY: YOU CAN’T HAVE OUR AMY!!!
The British Home Secretary admitted that secret negotiations have been underway to prevent Amy Winehouse entering the US, in a bid to stem a looming crisis in the British tabloid press, Great Britain’s largest industry.
…
Said tabloid spokesman Nigel Wayland-Smith-St. John-Bennet, “Look, we understand you’ve lost Anna Nicole, but Brittney has quadrupled her output in recent months. And we cannot get along forever on Princess Di; that udder has been milked to a standstill. Leave our Amy be.”
…
At this point, isn’t it perhaps a better thing that Amy stay in the UK and (hopefully) continue getting treatment, rather than jetting off to awards ceremonies where there will be drinking and drugs and so forth?
Very funny! Thanks for that day-lifter.
I’d never heard of her before hearing about her Visa problems.
Looks like she was able to get her visa after all.
However, timing and scheduling complications will still keep her from coming to the Grammy’s.
Well, that or the metric kilogram of cocaine she’s going to snuff up before the show…
as opposed to a Troy kilogram or an Imperial kilogram?
But yeah, what Sierra Indigo said, better not take a chance at the parties… And another vote here for great thread title.
:smack:
It started out as “metric assload” but I figured that was really a disgusting measure to put up your nose…
