An abbreviated MMP

The day has been on an upswing(no where to go but up!:)). Gordie is standing in the kitchen, with a chew in his mouth, watching Nelly eat hers.

Yay for your back, gotti! Take it easy, though.

FCM, good plan, except they’d probably just whizz on me.

Rebo, I have prescription shades, and they rock.

Dang, I knew I forgot something. Gotti, I’m glad the surgery went well. Here’s hoping you won’t need any pain meds for much longer.

I would love me some prescription sunglasses, however, my daughter needs some specs and so does my son, along with both my husband and I.

My daughter has an eye exam on the 28th. Next month, we’ll set up an appointment for my son, and in the following months, we’ll set up appointments for hubby and I.

I wear bifocals, so my glasses won’t be cheap anyway. My son and husband need fairly strong prescriptions. I do know that none of us will be getting contacts. They want $100.00 to $140.00 bucks just to be fitted for the contacts. Forget it. Besides, one can’t wear contacts all the time, so you need a pair of specs when the contacts are bothering your eyes. So, my philosophy is why bother with the contacts.

Yes…I’m cheap.

I’ve just returned from picking my daughter up at work. Soon, I’ll be heading off to bed since I need to be at work a little earlier.

Nighty-night.

Glad the surgery went well, Gotti. My mother was terrified about her own waaaaaaaaaay back when, now she needs to ask me when did she have it, as she doesn’t remember (I was in 12th grade, boy did high school suck for me, and not because of the school). I hope the hit on the wallet isn’t too bad either.

Fantasy totally sucks, aye. Let’s go burn anything by García Márquez, the immense majority of poems and El Quijote! And the plays of Lope, Quevedo, Moliére and that british guy Billy something or other… (does hitting someone with a hardcover copy of A Midsummer Night’s Dream count as “assault with a deadly weapon”? Is it less bad if you merely make them swallow the softcover copy, unabridged, raw and without chewing?)

Good bosses are hard to find, but when you find a good one it’s such a catch, innit?

Hey howdy all. Hugs to all who need them - too difficult to type on the Crackberry!

I am sitting on the balcony of our room in Cairo overlooking the Nile and the Zamalek district and enjoying my first coffee of the morning. Pictures when I get back. The casino was not nice to us last night, but otherwise we are having a great time!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’! It’s Firday!!! Please let it be a fast one.

Dotty shame on the casino for not bein’ nice but glad y’all are havin’ a good time.

Taters you’re just thrifty is all.

doggio did you figure out who the matress whizzin’ culprit is or was it a vast animule conspiracy?

Ok, time for some more caffiene and some brekkies followed by work purtification.

Later Y’all!

Happy Firday! Game tonight.

swampy, The Vast Conspiracy To Piss On Me? I hope not.

Glad you’re enjoying things, dotty!

I’m going to order my SCBA mask insert today, so I can finally see whenever I show up at a fire in my bifocals. Fashionable, they’re not. Imagine the geekiest looking black plastic frame glasses you can, and then put a big-assed suction cup at the bridge across the nose.

CanineServant, I can’t top matress pissing, but I’ve been there. Last night, Freya got into a whole peck o’ trouble by counter surfing, and getting caught red-pawed trying to eat the bread VWife had put out for dinner.

Happy Firday, y’all. I have a big weekend planned, of workworkwork around the VunderLair. The highlight will be picking up a truckload of horse manure for the future garden. Yuck.

Gotti–hope the recovery goes smoothly!

Off to the salt mines again. I’m having weirdness with my boss and am trying to decide how to handle it. Too long and involved to post now (or probably ever–I’m lazy like that). Just pray to the gods of rationality today for me, ok? Ta.

Yuck, Bobbio! But it’s sooo good for the garden.

I can’t remember anything else I read. Need more coffee…

Happy Firday!
ETA: Good thoughts for Rigs.

{{{{{{{Muppet}}}}}}}}} and LiLi too, for that matter.

But TGIFIRDAY!!!

Glad to hear the operation went well, Gotti; sending good recouperative thoughts your way.

And good thoughts for anyone else who needs them. I’m only partially caffeinated this morning. It’s awful, let me tell you! Time to get some tea, I think. Oh yeah, glad to hear that the reef turned out okay, FCM!

Yay, Firday!!! And not soon enough. I think we should just work weekends and have weekdays off.

moonie, maybe the professor was trying to catch you a break.

I am due for a recheck on my glasses, too. I have a vision plan that pays for the exam and a pair of cheapo glasses, too. Last year I paid extra for bifocals with special clip-on sunglass lenses. They are in my glove compartment. I cannot stand to wear them. My nearsightedness isn’t really bad enough to force myself to get used to them. So it will be a new pair of computer/reading glasses.

That’s all for now.

Tupug

I just picked up my new prescription sunglasses about a week ago and I loooooooooove them. I had a pair before, but they were little, like regular glasses, so they did nothing to keep out the sun. My new ones are bigger, but not hideously-ugly-big. Sorry, I’m not in the fashion camp that’s into the giant sunglasses.

I should probably get new glasses soon too, but I didn’t budget into this year’s flex spend, and my 'scrip is only good for a year (ending in June) but my new flex spend year doesn’t start until July, and we only get biannual eye exams. So… no new scrip until June 2010. So I may have to stick with my current glasses until then. Especially since what I really want - a nifty pair of Silhouettes - are really expensive.

Since I do have such good management, I’m hoping they’ll be ok with me working through lunch in the summer and counting that as an hour towards the weekly 40. We work summer hours - 9 hours M-Th and then 1/2 day Firday - so generally that means 8-6 on M-Th with an hour off for lunch. But I really hate how much that cuts into my evening. So I’m hoping 8-5 with no lunch will be an acceptable alternative. I think one of my coworkers has done that in the past, but I’ll have to check.

Very :smack: prof, moonie! Good on ya for not sitting in on all the answers.

I wish I could get good drugs. That cocktail of Demerol, Fentanyl and Vicodin that I had on Wednesday would be enough to put a normal person nearly comatose. To my freakish metabolism, it’s barely more than an aspirin. Fortunately, I apparently also have a freakish pain tolerance - my chiropractor is still amazed that I haven’t been curled up in a little ball for all these months.

I don’t have any particular noticeable effects from the Vicodin other than perhaps feeling a little sleepy when I take them two at a time.

DH was getting concerned at “all” of the blood in the dressing, so he asked our friendly neighborhood ICU nurse to take a look, and she pronounced it to be both fine and amazing.

Surgery’s done. No cancer. Not even an infection, which is puzzling. Mostly old blood in his lungs, though how it got there they don’t know. He should come home in a few days. I don’t know how I’m going to be able to write 4/5 papers and 2 projects in the next month. I may have to ask a couple of professors if I can combine 2 papers and write it on a subject on which I will be able to focus.

That’s great to hear, Carrot!!!

Sounds like a plan on the papers, too.

Great news Cap’n! Sounds like a good idea with the papers too.

Howdy Y’all! I’s home and it’s Firday!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!

Papa John’s is makin’ dindin tonight. Though I do have some bag sallit so that makes it a healthy meal. Also, I have a feelin’ feedin’ time this weekend will consist of stuff from the deli which I shall need to fetch tomorrow mornin’. Just ain’t in a cookin’ mood.

I hear a beerverage callin’ out to me from the fridge. I must go attend to it.

I’ve had prescription sunglasses – prescription bifocal sunglasses, no less, so I could see to read a map in the car! This time around, though, I got the Transitions lenses, the ones that darken all by themselves. I had them once many years ago, but they were too slow to both darken and clear up, but now they’re really fast. So within a few moments of going out in the sun, they’re already darkening, and same with coming back inside. I like them a whole lot. I recommend them for those of you who can’t afford or are too cheap to get prescription sunglasses – they don’t add much cost to the price of lenses, and they’re a heck of a lot cheaper than buying prescription bifocal sunglasses from the frames up. (The time I did that, I had actual good vision insurance – paid like $40 bucks per pair for all my glasses. Those were the days!)

I’m glad things are going okay with the back, Gotti – here’s hoping your recovery is uneventful and involves lots of drugs and reclining! Although the goal of the drugs is not to turn you into a zombie; it’s to reduce the pain enough so you can do whatever else you’re supposed to do while you heal. Boring, but true. It’s very helpful to have free checks from your nursing neighbor, however!

Great news, Carrot! And I suspect your professors will be reasonable under the circumstances. Serious illness, or the fear thereof, can make things like schoolwork very difficult to do, for some strange reason.

That professor sounds like a real space cadet, Moonie. Your honesty is quite refreshing, though; the number of students who will take actual learning over a quick and easy grade seems to get smaller and smaller every year.

Things are quiet here today. It’s Papa Tigs’ regular biweekly Friday off, so this morning he took Isaac for a SWIM, ohboy ohboy ohboy, and then a long walk through the woods. Now Isaac is lying here totally wiped out and very, very contented. And Papa Tigs took off for a while to do Stuff, so he’s not hanging around interrupting me when I’m trying to work. Not that I am trying to work, of course, but I should be.

Is it naptime yet?

Whew. TGIF, and what a Firday it was. Cats woke me around 4, the brats. I lay in bed till about 4:45, then got up, showered, and went to work. Fairly early on, I got and email saying my meeting was canceled, so I planned to leave at 10. About 9:30 I got another email for a replacement meeting that was to run from 11:30-12. Crap. So much for splitting early. So I left a little after 12.

**FCD **had loaded the trailer with more tree debris, and we went to the dump, then to get some lunch, and finally to the marina. We moved to our new slip (very nice location) and talked about what we’re doing tomorrow. (He’s installing the new dodger frame, I’m masking and varnishing the teak. rah.)

Now we’re home. I’ve got a load of clothes in the washer. Dunno what we’ll do for supper. I’m tired. I’m hungry. I wanted to work in the yard - guess that ain’t gonna happen. :frowning:

But the weather is gorgeous, and tomorrow will be even nicer - close to 80°F! I need to remember to wear sunscreen while we’re working, or I’ll be fried. And I can probably get away with shorts… if I can find a grubby pair that fits.

Hongreeee!! I can haz noms?!?

Great news, Cap’n!

I am finally home, although a bit early. I spent the whole day participating in an off-site work group for performance/business type planning. We got out earlier than expected and I should have probably gone back to the office. However, lunch did not agree with me AT ALL and I needed to rush home to the bathroom.

I also came home to discover I’ve summoned for jury duty again. I just served in February of 2008. Once again, it’s for a two week stint in Superior Court. However, it’s for next week and with the workload and lack of staff in my office, there’s just no way I can do it then. Rather than go to all the trouble of getting a letter from my boss, I just postponed my service until October. Damn, they just love me. I serve every year now. It’s retarded. My husband, on the other hand, wants to be called. He’s only been called once.

I need to take my daughter to work now.

SPRING!!!
