"An Adventurer Is You!" (KoL slogan origin?)

Been playing much Kingdom of Loathing … but I am still curious about the origin of the game’s slogan, “An Adventurer Is You!”

Wiki says it’s a “quote spoofing Pro Wrestling.” How, exactly? Where did this gem come from?

“Pro Wrestling” was an NES game in the early '80s which, like many Japanese-made games of the time, had less than first-rate English translations. Upon winning a match you saw a screen with the message “A Winner Is You!”

(On a side note, one of the computer-controlled tag teams in the game is called “The Strong Bads”, from which the Homestar Runner character takes his name.)

The KoL slogan does come from NES Pro Wrestling. “The Strong Bads”, however, are from Tag Team Wrestling on the NES.

Thus endeth the nitpick.

Beautiful! A thanked person is you.

What’s your handle in KoL? I am readily identifiable…

Regrettably I missed St. Sneaky Pete’s Day and the Feast of Boris because I just ascended, and went Hardcore Oxygenarian. I also decided to go PVP, and I’m hoping there’s a trophy for getting your ass handed to you 300+ times…

I am Bubit of Toadspittle Hill. Just a newbie, thus far.
