An alcoholic question. So darn painful getting high!

Buttershots and hot chocolate.

A good strawberry daquiri.

Hard lemonade, like JD or Mike’s. Might as well be a Sprite.

Rum and Cherry Coke, with extra cherry syrup from a jar.

Don’t think that really applies to me because I’m not native Singaporean (or “Asian”, for that matter) - just happen to be living here temporarily.

I happen to like the sensation of being high. It’s fun. Simple as that.

Anyway, there are some interesting suggestions here. Thanks so much people! Will look into them the next time around. (…which is God knows how many months from now!)

heh… from the What’s your favorite cocktail thread… my entry:

the Lumberjack:

Wood alcohol.

that’s it.

I’m the exact same way. While I do like Bailey’s and Kalhua, I get sick off them before I get tipsy.

But.

I have been tipsy several times in the past few months! Due to… get ready for this… cider.

It tastes like apple juice, but with some kick. And it is tasty and doesn’t make me sick. See if any local bars have it on tap.

Mixed drinks made with vodka. Put the vodka in the freezer for a day or so to reduce the volatility of the alcohol.

Sex on the Beach, baby! It can be a strong drink, but you don’t taste the alcohol in it at all. Fruity drinks are the way to go, if you don’t like the taste. Just be careful you don’t overindulge…

Like don’t ask said, try mixed drinks with vodka? Get a really high-quality vodka; the cheap ones taste like ick. No Skoal.

No one mentioned alco-pops? Like red-square (tastes exactly like lemonade only better) or those bacardi ones?

I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t detest the taste of whisky/vodka. people who don’t contort their faces are only pretending/being brave.

I drink Port sometimes - it tastes ok and has a respectable alcohol content (20%) but otherwise I simply put up with the horrible taste of whisky (Jack Daniels is the most bareable, but also quite expensive)

Man, I can’t believe some of these ‘beginner’ drinks.

Buy Minute Maid frozen raspberry lemonde mix (cans). 1) Put a can in the blender with some ice. 2) Splash as much–good–vodka as you dare. 3)Blend until it’s snowcone consistency. Unless you seriously overdo step 2 you won’t taste the alcohol at all.

This is so foreign to my experience that it’s taken my interest.

Have you looked into Jello shots? They’re the least like alcohol form of alcohol I’ve ever encountered, and probably dangerous because of it. I will give you credit for an ability to keep them out of reach of the wee ones and clearly labled for the non-drinkers, but the release factor is different and it would be quite easy to find yourself on the wrong end of a stomach pump (or a body bag) due to overindulgence. Properly managed, though, they would probably do what you’re looking for.

Second on the White Russians, with a recomendation for a Paralyzer. That’s vodka, Kahlua, milk and cola. I can’t taste the alcohol in them, and reliable witnesses have said the same.

Have you ever tried drinking while you’re already slightly intoxicated? I find it’s easier to drink alcohol when you’re already part-drunk.

I used to be the same way, but then I discovered rum and coke. While you can taste the alcohol in it, the alcohol tastes damn good. That’s just MHO though.

2trew’s suggestion about jello-shots is a good one, but as the OP stated, he wants to drink slowly and socially, not slam back a few shots and be done.

Vodka is definitely not a form of brandy. Nope, nohow. But it’s still a good tip for the OP. I’d avoid the flavored vodkas, and simply get any decent brand of vodka and put it in the freezer. Sufficiently chilled, it has pretty much no taste whatsoever.

Well, you’re the one who specifically said that you didn’t advocate drinking to get high, while the OP clearly said s/he did want to drink to get high.

I’ve been in those, too (well, not terribly often), but if I don’t feel like drinking, I don’t drink. If people can’t deal with that, screw 'em.

So you’ll drink something alcoholic that “doesn’t taste too bad” over something non-alcoholic that tastes great. Not often, but sometimes, right? Could it be that you like the sensation that alcohol gives you? Yeah, that’s the high.

Again, you’re using a drug to affect your consciousness. The OP wants to do the same thing, only to a slightly greater degree.

The OP said s/he wanted to get a little buzz on, not pass out on the bathroom floor with his pants around his ankles!

Hell, even if he does, plenty of people do that and don’t turn into alcoholics. My wife went through a heavy drinking phase in college, but now she hardly ever touches the stuff. The first time I got drank alcohol, it was eight nasty beers at age 15. I puked my guts out. I’ve only managed to have eight drinks before falling asleep once in the ten years since then.

People are curious. Let 'em experiment.

I find it kind of odd that you (and I think a couple other people) have mentioned rum and Coke. Daiquiris are pretty much the only alcoholic drink that I actually like the taste of and they’re made with rum. Also, I’m a total Coke fiend. I drink about a gallon of the stuff a day. One sip of rum and Coke, however, has me running to the sink to spit it out as fast as I possibly can.

Everybody’s different, I guess. The OP just has to find the drink that’s right for him/her or give up trying.

Okay, I didn’t read all the posts, so this may have been mentioned. I’m EXACTLY the same way. I HATE the taste of alcohol, (the only times I used to drink I was taking shots, like medacine). Anyways. to make a long story short, I’ve found (at least) two things that I like. Margaritas and Grasshoppers (Ice Cream, Creme de Menthe, Creme De Cacao). As long as there not stong enough to taste like shoe polish, I love them. Unfortunetly the only drinks I really like, are kinda a hassle to make. It takes alot more work then grabbing a beer (which BTW I won’t touch).

I also hate the taste of alcohol. Try coke with vodka in it. VERY nice and you can’t taste the alcohol if you mix two shots of vodka with a glass of coke.

Abso-friggin-lutely, I agree 100%.

Also, try Bacardi Limon mixed with lemonade.
Verrry smooth & yum-u-lous!

Fill a tall glass with ice.
Pour in two shots of Vodka.
Fill galss with orange juice or cranberry juice.
Mix well, very well.
Sip with straw on the bottom and mix as you drink. This way you won`t get a face-ful of alcohol fumes when you ingest.
If you begin to taste alcohol then add more juice and start over.

I don’t know if it’s the one you’re thinking about, but I’m quite fond of Razzamatazz. It’s very raspberry, quite sweet, and doesn’t have much of a bite. It’s very good for sipping. I’m also partial to Midori–I like sweet drinks.

Vanilla flavored Stoli vodka mixed with Ginger Ale. Don’t put too much vodka in at first. It tastes like root beer cream soda, mmmmmm…

Hmm…
