Lissla I guess puking only once is a huge improvement - Yay!
How much caffiene did gotti have this morning?
So work is improving and I caught up on sleep last night. It was 80 degs American at 6.45 this morning. Which is hot at 6.45 in the morning. Going to hit 100 today so summer has truly arrived.
I, too, spilled on myself at lunch. I got some nice balsamic dressing on my light khaki pants. :smack: I think a Shout wipe got it out, but still… sheesh.
Here’s a helpful hint from me today - When you wash a load of towels, don’t forget and leave them in the washer for 3 or 4 days - that is NOT cool. It is, in fact, quite stinky. The load is being rewashed with an extra rinse. ick.
We had a nice rain yesterday - a steady shower for about 3 or 4 hours. Looks like today’s storms are gonna miss us, but DC appears to have gotten whomped - tarra, did it hit your neighborhood?
I’ve got a peach cobbler in the oven, just because. No idea what the rest of supper will be, but our fruit dish is baking. Yum.
I know I wanted to share something else, but I can’t recall what it was. So I’ll stop here.
Oh yeah - **MamaTigs ** - I sent an email to **Alice ** via you!
Wow! This has been a surreal day! I stepped into the middle of a pretty serious turf war between two department heads when I got in this morning. Bad department head (hereafter known as BDH) did something he shouldn’t have and then tried to compound the error by attempting to coopt me into an even worse fox paw. I ain’t no turnip truck refugee so went right to my boss, the good department head (hereafter known as GDH) who was not happy one bit with BDH. I was a bit worried that BDH would take it out on me but he has backed off. Phew!!
And the rest of the day followed suit.
Ultrasounds…wait’ll the one when you gotta drink all that liquid and the rug rat starts using your bladder as a trampoline.
bobbio, I love your stories. They are very interesting.
We had a baby shower for our coworker, and had cake! Yay for cake! She liked the little outfit I got for her li’l boy, and she got neat stuff like Dr Suess books and a cool backpack diaper bag. She is so small for being due in a week-and-a-half. She’s a tall girl, maybe that explains it.
I snagged a balloon for the doggies…that should be fun!
Time to gross you guys out - dinner tonight will be sauteed chicken livers, buttered egg noodles, and spinach. Oh yeah, Swampy likes 'em…
Speaking of baby showers - we’ve got another one coming up at work for a coworker and his wife who are expecting twins. We’ve already had 2 sets of twins born to employees so far this year. I’m so glad my reproductive parts are long gone…
Incidentally, the cobbler smells yummerrific! We may skip dinner and go straight to dessert! YUM!
Howdy! Y’all miss me today? I’ve been a busy bear. I got propane tanks filled and back home then I went and mowed yards. The rain really made grass shoot up let me tell yas! Hey it’s money so I ain’t complainin’.
Rebo I am indeed fond of chicken livers. However, tonight’s supper is that King Ranch chicken casserole you told us all about. I saw it this mornin’ early but didn’t post then cause I wanted to get goin’. Anywho, I boiled some chicken boobs and thighs. They got done and I let ‘em cool down whilst I went to do the propane thing and went by the store for some corn tortillas. When I got back I deboned ‘em. Casserole is now assembled and bakin’ away. Smells yum! I have fresh green beans and steamed carrots also, so we be eatin’ all healthy at da cave tonight. Course since somebody mentioned peach cobbler I want peach cobbler now too. I think I’ll pop one in the oven when le casserole (or should that be el casserole since it’s kinda Mexican like) is done. Oh and the baked N.O.T. wedgies were nummy!
And on the job front…
I have two interviews tomorrow, one in the mornin’ at another prison and one in the afternoon at the local Job Corps. I also got a call from personnel guy at Miller who told me they had the results of my assessment from Monday and it looked great. I will be gettin’ a call sometime next week to set up a time for round three which I think is a panel interview.
Speakin’ of prison… yesterday I accidentally took an ax onto prison property! Bigass sign in front of the prison said nothing was to be brought onto prison grounds (including the parking lot which is outside of the prison property but still part of the grounds) that could be used as a weapon. I think an ax meets that criteria. I did not realize this til this mornin’ when I was loadin’ propane tanks into the back of Blazer. See, last week I took the ax over to ACBG’s place to chop down a couple of largish bushes that needed to go. I drove Blazer that day and forgot to get the ax out when I got home. I took a weapon onto prison property!
BigBadBobbio cool story!
Appropriate hugs, awws, grrrs, yays, boos etc. Gotta go check on el casserole.
Just got back from Take The Geeks Bowling. We had a divisional “appreciation” event today, and fifty or so geeks toddled over from this building to a semi-secret bowling alley two blocks away. (Yes, Virginia, there is a bowling alley in downtown San Francisco! It’s tiny and not very well tended to, but it is a bowling alley.) Once we were there and got into the right sort of shoes, someone five lanes over from where I was rolls the first ball with just a little too much “loft.” BLAM!
Guess they thought it was underhand-pitch softball? Collectively, it didn’t get a whole lot better, although there was one guy who brought his own ball. Not sure why as he only rolled a 124 in the second game.
Despite that, I think he was the top scorer in the entire bowling alley. You know the old joke about bowling alleys being such quiet places you can hear a pin drop - well, we made the place really noisy as there was not much pin-dropping to be heard!
That’s why we’re geeks and not pro bowlers, I guess!
BBBobbio–I had to read the story twice (I’m slow, I’ve been sick, dammit), because I thought the domestic abuse bit was REAL. Like they had done the mock drill, but he had gone off and truly hurt her… Any way, well done!
I am somewhat better, but heartsick. Here’s why: my new manager not only put me down for 3 days/week instead of 2, she put me down for all the Thursdays. Thursdays are my day at the library. So, now I can’t work there for the next 6 weeks. I will speak to her about this tomorrow (my first day on the job-what a way to start things). I am going in–I can’t in good conscience not. The antibiotics are working, although I am somewhat tired.
Good luck to BooFae re her grades and Hazenut re her paper (how can you have a paper due after you’ve already Walked?)
I kinda wondered how one can have a paper due after already graduatin’ myself… do enlighten us Haze.
Rigs hope you’re feelin’ well enough to work tomorrow. First day on the job and sick are just ick when put together.
I made Rebo’s chicken casserole for supper. YUM!!!
Matter of fact there was enough leftover to make lunches for ol’ y’all know who for tomorrow and Friday and enough for me to munch on tomorrow too. Poor thing has gone back to his place to deal with some paperwork. They’re understaffed yet again so he’s seein’ some patients. There are a couple good candidates so soon the place will be back to somewhat sane. That’s ACBG’s phrase… he says there’s no such thing as normal just somewhat sane.
I did not cave in and make a peach cobbler. Maybe this weekend. Tomorrow night we are attendin’ a birthday soire. Should be fun. Just a little get together to wish birthday boy a happy day and munch some sammiches and cake and wash it all down with a couple beerverages.
BlackBeltBobBlackBeltBobBlackBeltBob - It’s a tongue twister!
I think the banana flavored Twinkies are in addition to the vanilla flavored ones. And yeah, the “cake” is a lot closer to styrofoam than it used to be.
Actually, Myndy, that George Carlin bit is from the 70s - I know this because I first heard it in college.
The damn storm is stuck swirling around the eastern end of the Guylandt - leaving us covered in clouds and dripping with humididity. Not happy!!!
I waited til about a half hour before I left work to take half a pain pill because I went to PT afterwards. And I added a new exercise - big honkin’ medicine ball between a wall and my back - lean against it and do sets of squats. I only did one set, and only squated about 10 degrees, but it’s a start.
If the humididity clears out by tomorrow afternoon, I might have enough energy to pop by reheaersal for a little while. I’d really like to because I miss my chorus gals.
Dinner was slightly delayed toniight, my lamp died. Still not bad for 5 years and free. I got a new one at Wally*World, and some “100W” fluorescents to to with it. Nice and bright in here. I’m having turkey and chorzio burritos, and Yuengling for dinner.
Rosie, we have a thunderstorm watch here. Glad you feel up to playing with balls. <snerk>.
swampy, did you have Bud Light in the car? Then the ax is OK.
LiLi, of course the kid looks more like a blob than a kid, he/she is part ninja!
Rebo, I like chicken liver, but not beef liver.
Jahdra, that’s why I tend towards dirt colored clothing.
Haze, if you forget the paper, will they hunt you down and take your diploma away?
I know what I wanted to share - part of the late Mitch Hedberg’s routine. Something to the effect of: "When people on the street hand you flyers, it’s like they’re saying ‘Here, *you * throw this away!’ "
Load of towels is washed, dried, destinkified, folded, and put away. Load of jeans is washed, dried, and hanging in the closets. Load of unders is washed and is currently drying. How can I be so productive on a Wednesday night?? It’s unnatural!
Perhaps one day Haze will be sitting in her living room watching PBS, a cat on her lap and her husband at her feet…errr… reverse that. On second thought, what I said first works better. Then there’ll come a’poundin’ on the door… The Diploma Police! They’ll say: “We know all about that paper you didn’t turn in, young lady! Now you march upstairs (she’s living in a lovely two story townhome) and get that diploma because we’re taking it from you! Now march! I mean it! Don’t give me that look!”
It will all be so very tragic!
ETA: FCM if you still need to destinkiefy your towels after they’ve been washed and dried, you ain’t doin’ sump’n right.
**rigs ** - I didn’t need a “clean cycle”- I did the load of unders with bleach, so it’s all sweet and good.
**swampy ** - that wasn’t necessarily in order. They were ultimately de-stinkified in the dryer by the dryer sheet. Not that it matters. I had cobbler.
They picked up the garbage! It’s not unbearably hot in the house. Yet. It’s supposed to cool off this weekend back down to the 70s. I hope so. I guess it’s time to turn the computer off in the morning before I leave for work. I’m pretty sure computers don’t work well in temps in excess of 100F. Yes, my house gets that hot in the summer. Yes, it’s miserable. No, I can’t have A/C, the wiring isn’t up to code. But I do keep the fans running all summer long. My landlord’s going to replace the windows with double pan glass “someday.”
FCM, I forgot to congratulate you on your OP! Great job and I enjoyed seeing the pics of you at the wheel. I think those kitty jars are so cute. The storms that rolled through here came in waves today! Lots of thunder and lightning too; we’ve had a couple of lightning-touched-off fires, unfortunately. I think they’re finished now … I hope!
Tomorrow (the 14th) is the 4th anniversary of my Mom’s death. Maybe that’s why I’ve been feeling so gloomy the past few days. I still miss her so much, and will be thinking of her tomorrow. I’m hoping to be able to take my kids up to see her grave soon; they haven’t seen the headstone since it was placed.
My Dad is back from his cruise! He had a great time–he really enjoyed the cruise and all the food and drink. lol He had a $500 liquor bill at the end!! All the excursions involved a lot of walking, but he only did the half-day excursions so he got a chance to rest up in the afternoons. He sounds wonderful, and says that he hasn’t felt this good in a long time.
Gah, the thunder is rumbling above -again- and it’s raining too. Better to log off. Happy Thursday all!
