An Artsy-Fartsy Aftermath MMP

Morning. Another day at work.

Rebo, glad the pooping stopped.

Meeks, D.O.T.s are good or that. There’s a section of I-40/I-85 in N.C. that has been under construction for about 20 years.

Hey kai! Sorry about the reunion being a bummer. Glad you’re better, though.

I hope the surgery goes well, kat.

How did the Google ads decide that cat/stuffed toy humping plus bear appreciation equal the need for frozen dog semen?

kai, you’re right. I’m getting excellent at puking. The part I really don’t like is the in-between nausea stage, where I can’t throw up yet, and just have to suffer until it clears up or I throw up.

Yesterday evening was okay. I was on-and-off sickish feeling at work, but not very- I didn’t lose my dinner. I just sat stolidly at the front doing data entry and not moving. I think tonight I’m working with Driving Husband, which will be fun.

Today I feel okay so far.
kai, it’s lovely to see you back. Also, Alastair and Morgyn, hello! Welcome back!

BooFae, she’s normally a pretty sensible woman. Well, mostly. This is worrying. Hot and heavy instant romance is not, in my opinion, a great foundation for marriage. In spite of a zillion romance novels.

Hi all! Last week I was somewhat MIA due to attending the national conference of the American Advertisting Federation. Am I in advertising? NOPE. But, it was held nearby (Louisville) and I am technically in our marketing division, so off we went. There was so much discusion of how to reach audiences and THE POWER OF THE INTERNET I wanted to push my thumbs into the eyes of the next person who said “Facebook” or “MySpace.” Gah. There were interesting presentations by college student club members, who designed comprehensive campaigns for Coke to reach the 13-to-23 market. Amusingly, they did a great amount of market research to discover that this group wants to be independent and trendy and loves music and having a good time. Stop the presses! :smack: Anyway, there was free food and free booze, and I got out of the office for two days, even though we had to LEAVE here at 6 am Friday   in order to make it in time for the 8 am breakfast.

So, this week I have to catch up on all last week’s work, plus do two weeks’ worth of MORE work because I, and someone whose work is closely tied to mine, are going on back-to-back vacations. Gah. I’ll try to pop in and wave hello, but I ain’t promising anything.

Smooches!!

I haven’t read it yet, but hello everyone. Very short attention span at present. No energy.

Am back from out of town. Am still sick. Fever of 101.3 last night. Waiting for doc’s office to open. Thinking of calling in for tomorrow (I’ve had this fever for 3 days). Thing is, tomorrow= first day of my new job.
God hates me.

Sorry you’re sick, rigs! Hope you feel better. Have you finished with your last ever shift at your old job? I know you were close to being done but I can’t remember when the last day is/was.

Did you take the new apt in the house with the landlady, mika? I never read the MMP on the weekend so I miss the end of a lot of people’s stories! Is the bad commute from the new place (if you took it) or from the old place?

Summer attacked suddenly here. It’s been cold and rainy, but starting Sunday, it’s gotten a lot warmer, and by last night it started to get more humid. At least they’re finally starting to fill the pool at our apartment so we should be able to use that by the weekend. I hope! We’re running the AC all the time as of yesterday. Fun fun.

Taxi, she finally creeped us out a bit too much. She said initially that the woman in the apartment had been there 2.5 years and was breaking her lease to move. Now, I’d met the woman there, and let’s say she struck me as not the type to live in a nice quiet suburbia. I don’t mean to stereotype, but I talked to her long enough to get the idea she liked late night parties, and guys over at all hours. So I was fairly assured that while our landlady was quiet, this one was loud.

That would have been OK by me. But then when we last talked to the landlady she said she was kicking out the girl, and not that she had broken the lease. So one time or another she lied to us. And she started giving us entirely too much detail about the other girl. It began to make us uncomfortable, and that slightly worrisome detail of having a possible nosy landlady living right above us escalated into a genuine fear. So we told her, no thanks, family issues, can’t move this summer, perhaps in the future? She was very nice, and we’ll keep looking.

For now we are thinking of getting a storage unit and putting some of our stuff in there. Then when we eventually do move, it should be a little easier.

Thanks for asking!

You kids don’t know how good you have it with today’s low-VOC latex paint that’s getting so close to non-toxic it could be used as a dessert topping. Back when I was a sprout, we had oil-base paints and naptha. Stand near a freshly painted thing, and you’d see colors that were not in the paint.

LiLi have you talked to your doctor about the excessive amoount of puking? Because I have never given birth, but it seems that you are doing it way too much for it to be considered normal.

GT – I think I’ve exterminated most of the ones that cropped up on-site last week… Here’s hoping! We’ll be installing a “patch” :dubious: next week; we’ll see how it works in a real production environment then.

Swampy – appropriate appendages are now re-crossed. I’ll send you my medical bills later (when you have a job off of which you can pay them :p)

**Mika **-- sorry the house didn’t go through. Sounds like it’s for the best, though… although I suppose you could always break lease, too, moving twice in quick succession is *my *idea of a fit punishment in hell

Hope you feel better, eleanorigby. And hope you stay (relatively) OK, Li-Li!

Me, I’m still at work (6:15 PM here, yes?) But I plan on leaving soon, and **not **working from home tonight for a change!

What, no color? Here’s some, just for fun

Sean, this is within the normal range. It sucks, and if it gets worse I might have to be hospitalized, but my doctor told me that right now I’m not losing weight and I’m getting enough fluids, so I’m okay. Actually, bad morning sickness is supposed to be good  It means all sorts of great pregnancy hormones are running around through me, keeping the kidlet healthy. As long as I can eat enough not to lose weight, I’m okay.

Did you know Charlotte Bronte died of morning sickness?

I think that Lissla’s MIL is cut from the same cloth as my mom. She’s madly in love with someone she met on the internet about a month ago. They aren’t talking marriage, but he’s moving in with her.

Ha! You wanna trade fume exposure stories? I’ve worked as an offset printer. As a matter of course, I used on a daily basis:

  • Oil-based inks (not particularly smelly by itself, actually.)
  • Napthalene (a.k.a. blanket wash; used to clean the rubber impression blanket)
  • Toluene (a.k.a. roller wash, used in press cleanup to remove the ink during end-of-day cleanup or colour changeover)
  • Ethanol (a component in plate cleaner, which is used to clean the non-burned areas of metal printing plates. These are low-VOC these days, but not back then.)
  • Tack reducer (reduces tackiness of ink, important on humid days when paper is likely to stick to the blanket because the ink is too sticky; this stuff is pretty mild but it’s still an aerosol)
  • Ink preserver (also an aerosol, not particularly stinky though; this was used if you wanted to keep the ink on the press overnight instead of doing a full cleanup)
  • Propane (again, mild, but it was used for the turbo-dry flame bar in the delivery system of a huge Komori press)

At the end of the day I generally came home smelling like a chemical factory, and people were ill-advised to light up a smoke around me.

I sat straight up in bed this morning (scared a life or two out of the cats) sure that I was late for work, since the sun was shining on my face. The landlord pulled out the oleander that was in front of my bedroom window, and I’m really not used to sun in the morning yet. I stagger into the kitchen to feed the cats, and I suddenly realize, today’s my birthday! And the sun is shining! The sun *never * shines on my birthday, not in the morning, not since I can recall. Even when we lived in Phoenix, there was tule fog the morning of my birthday.

I never thought I’d make it this far, to be honest, I never *intended * to make it this far, and it was definitely a near thing 2 years ago. I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am now to be alive, and free. It feels like a new beginning, that the past is over and done with, and I’ve moved on. After decades of pain, I don’t hurt anymore. Oh, I still have twinges now and again, but they pass, faster and faster lately.

So celebrate, dammit!

:Throws confetti, pushes birthday cake through the CD drive:

i used to be a blueprint clerk. To develop the blueprints, it ran through ammonia vapor. At this one place I worked, we had to make copies of huge long rolled airplane drawings, and the ammonia cloud would get you while you held on to the rolls as they came out of the machine, or else they would tangle and roll back into the machine.

That job sucked.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JAHDRA!!!

What she said!!!

~Happy Birthday, Jahdra~

rigs, I’m sorry you’re still sick! Hope it gets better soon.

meli, I’m sorry for your loss.

Finally got a good night’s sleep in I don’t know how long. Today is Scottish Darling’s last day here in Chicago. :frowning: I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself when she’s gone.

Ooo, pretty! I’m stealing this one!
We’re supposed to have a scheduled fire drill at 1 PM. I plan to go to lunch at that pont!

Happy Birthday Jahdra!!!

Happy Birthday, Jahdra! celebrates, as commanded

Thank you very much for the condolences, everybody. It really does mean a lot to me. I’ve gotta leave for the visitation in about a half hour, and it’s going to take up most of the day. However, my mood is lifted a bit by the fact that Sarah, my cousin, is flying in from Oregon today to be here for a few days. I haven’t seen her in five years, even though she’s the cousin I’m closest to on my mom’s side. I’m very glad to be able to see her again, despite the circumstances.

Pugs, having worked in “telefundraising”, I can certainly understand your dread of cold calls! Here’s hoping it doesn’t take too long and you can get back to the nicer points of your job real quickly.

And as for Ali, well… I suppose you’re not too difficult to tolerate. Usually. Unless you go on another one of your international relations tirades.
