An Artsy-Fartsy Aftermath MMP

I’d definitely want a ceramic monster. FCM all you have to do to retire rich and successful is to find a bunch of Dopers to buy monsters!

I am STAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRVVVVVVVVIIIIIIINNNNNNNNGGGGGG!!!

The pulled pork bbq is simmerin’ away and smellin’ good. I’ve got Rebo’s baked N.O.T. wedges cookin’ away in the oven (just put ‘em in and already they smell so awesome!) and just can’t wait for ol’ y’all know who to get here to eat! He’ll be here around five-thirtyish, which means everything will be done, except toastin’ the <snerk> buns <snerk>. Warm toasty <snerk> buns <snerk> and bbq are just sooooooo good! I shall expect lots of “appreciation” for tonight’s supper.

LiLi yay on lunch stayin’ down! There is hope.

Speakin’ of sorta kinda quick fallin’ in love (well, since the gummit says we can’t be married or domestic partnered or whatever right now), ACBG and I sorta did a kinda quick fall in love thing. See, we already knew each other and all but when we met several years ago both of us were involved. My partner of thirteen years decided he could do better (he didn’t HAH!) and went elsewheres. ACBG was seein’ someone regularly but that didn’t work out. Anywho… there was this party in June (three years ago now!) and both of us were there. Well, we sorta connected that night (no dirty stuff, so get yer minds outta the gutter) and decided to go out and have dinner together that next week. That went well, so we did that a couple other times. Well, I decided things needed to move along after about a month, so I invited him out to da cave for dinner… steaks, a little chilled champagne, hot tub and well… from then on, we, ummmm… decided we would “appreciate” each other on a regular basis. It’s good. We both have houses and well, he does spend more time at da cave than I do at his place what with me havin’ a pool and hot tub and all and who the heck knows what the future will bring… but if we could have some kinda legal relationship, it would happen. What? There’s a point to this… yeah… I think… Oh, didn’t take us long to decide to be together.

Do you need someone to send yarn to? I’m just starting to knit so at the moment I have exactly 2 things (balls? rolls? skeins?) of yarn - one cotton and one acrylic and both in blue. But then again, at the moment I only know how to cast on and knit. I haven’t even learned what to do when this thing that I’m knitting (It started out as a dish cloth, but it’s too big for that now so… dunno.) is “done.” I’ll have to figure out how to stop or I’m going to have one VEEEEEEERY long and utterly useless piece of fabric. In blue. Cotton. :stuck_out_tongue:
**
Happy Birthday, Jah!!!**

Oh and KeithT and I were also among the pretty-quick-to-get-serious group. We met here at the end of April 2 years ago, met in person about 3 weeks later, and knew pretty much by the end of that weekend that it’d be forever. We didn’t get engaged for 7 months, but we both knew that this was it.

how cool are you! (and I was able to read that!)

Happy Birthday, Jahdra!!

All you with Teh Sick, get better! Spring/Summer is no time to be stuck inside.

Kat - best of luck with your procedure. My thoughts are with you.

Welcome back kai, stringed-instrument-dude, and everyone else who have returned to us after being absent.

Other appropriate noises and reactions as warranted.

Today was a better day. Yesterday I ran out of steam at 2:30pm. Today I made it to 3:30pm before grabbing the pain pills. But I told my “2nd Tuesday Trivia Night” friends I would not be there this month. Tomorrow after work is more PT. Each day is a little better.

Later, all.

rosie, I am impressed - you sound like you’re doing great! YAY!

Just got off the phone with my baby. Apparently, she’s told her intended to get his ass in gear and decide what he wants to be when he grows up. I told her we’d broach the same subject when they come up next month. I’ve said it many times, I do like the guy, but doggone, he needs to act his age. My daughter doesn’t need a grown son, she deserves a husband! I’m glad she recognized it, too.

It’s dark and really windy all of a sudden - mayhaps we’ll get some rain??? Hope so!

I just popped back in to say I Love The Bunnies. They just added Die Hard, also check out the James Bond Medley and Office Space.

It’s raining! YAAAAAAAY!!

Love the bunnies!!!

Sorry you feel so sick, rigsy. Hope it passes soon.

Hope your procedure goes well, kat. (I think I forgot to say that earlier.)

For Jahdra, since Nava didn’t use it earlier:

Feliz, feliz en tu día,
amiguita que Dios te bendiga,
que reine la paz en tu vida
y que cumplas muchos más.

And another language, just for kicks:

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag!

So glad you’ve been able to come such a long way, Jah!

Random thoughts I had while I was walking home from the bus stop:

  1. Where has QD been lately? We need to know the status of her underwear. And of her engagement.

  2. We’re getting a dog-washing place in our neighborhood (walked past it last night and thought of Alice, of course).

  3. Why are there so many haircutting establishments in my neighborhood? We’re getting what looks like a rather upscale place around the corner which will make something like 7 (this is not an exaggerration; I may be forgetting some) establishments within a 5-minute walk of my house.

Glad for the no nausea day, LiLi. Hope this keeps up.

There’s more, but I just realized I’m missing this week’s concert on the lawn. Think I’ll grab some food and mosey over there for a bit.

Back later to catch up some more.

GT

~Happy Birthday, Jahdra!!~

Kai, you got me in trouble. A couple of my cats were reading along and read about your cats getting salmon. Now I am getting dirty looks.

btw - I can ‘say’ it in Japanese, but no clue how to “write” it:
Otenjobi Omideto Gozaiymas

I’m here, I mostly lurk here, I don’t know why I don’t post. I think it’s because so many times on the boards whatever I think of to post gets posted by three people before I even finish a thread, so I don’t post at all. But it doesn’t matter in this one, I know!

I don’t think my email is in my profile, or if there is one there it’s ancient, so I’m going to have to do something about that. If you’re in a hurry, FCM, just send it to MT; her computer is in the room across the hall so it’s not like I won’t see it Real Quick.

Oh, and assorted happy birthdays and whatnot to all!

Hey, today’s payday! I came home and found **$$$MONEY$$$**in my mailbox. Ok, it’s a check, but still. And my COBRA coupon came, too, which is coincidentally $10 less than the paycheck. But that’s still a net gain. Woo hoo!

I stopped at the yarn store and bought 2 skeins of yarn: Manos del Uruguay in Agate (burgundy/dark orange/dark brown) and Ornaghi Filati Gange in a purple/mauve/copper. The Manos is a lovely kettle-dyed wool from Uruguay, and the Gange is an Italian self-striping chainette yarn. I don’t know what I’m going to do with them, but they are pretty, and a fun indulgence for my birthday. The Gange might make a pretty drop stitch scarf, depending on how long the stripes are.

I have an interview next week with the firm that I’m currently working for. It’s a bit surreal, since, as of yesterday, I am supporting…the recruiters. Plus, there’s the whole interviewing for the job I’m already doing thing. I’m 95% sure that I won’t take the position, but I decided that I should at least keep an open mind. Better to know for sure than to always wonder. Besides, I need interview practice, and it doesn’t get any lower risk than this.

ETA: Ok, super-surreal. I just got an email to my Gmail account confirming my interview next Wednesday, from the recruiter I was working with all afternoon.

Taxi, I got exztra yarn I can send you. Send me your address, my e-mail is the same. I have pretty ones.

I’m sure I can come up with some extra yarn for you, taxi. My email is in my profile; send me your address and I’ll pop a couple skeins of something or other in the mail.

Howdy! I’m sneakin’ in a post cause ol’ y’all know who is snoozin’ away to beat the band followin’ “appreciation.”

Bobbio Beer, prison, bad younguns… who knows. I’m just hopin’ one of ‘em turns out to be a job. I ain’t picky cause I know that if I don’t like what I end up doin’, I can still look.

BioRosie I’m glad everything went better today. It’ll just keep gettin’ better and better from here on out! YAY!!!

Jah the job you want will be there just like I know it will be for me. I know that cause you’re jake, like me!

Ok, I hear thunder gettin’ close outside so that means shut off Mr. 'Puter.

Have a great night/mornin’/afternoon whatever it is wherever you are y’all!

Toodles… hugs and kisses all around!

Finally back and all this talk of yarn reminds me that I don’t think I mentioned that the Needle Arts Market was in town recently. I periodically walk through the convention center at lunch and got to see lots of purty yarn (they had a bunch of tables set up outside the trade show). Thought of all of you…

Concert was pretty good; I left just before it ended and came home and did some serious watering on the side and in front of the house. Tomorrow before I go to work, I get to water in back. Probably need to stop by church after work too and make sure nothing’s dying. I watered on Sunday and someone was supposed to water today, but if that didn’t happen, there are a few plants that will be very unhappy.

How did it get to be this late? I should really be doing work, but I think that’s not going to happen till early tomorrow…

Hope everyone’s having a lovely evening/morning/whatever time of day it is where you are…

Yay on money in the mail.
Am still sick. Fever just broke. Hate that–all sticky and gummy feeling. Need bath, stat. Do feel better, though (marginally).
I like the ceramic monster idea, as well as the knitted ones. Those monsters sure are cute in the link.
I dunno ‘bout waiting around and getting to know your partner prior to marriage–my husband and I dated for 7 years on and off before we got married. Just sayin’.

Speaking of nothing that pertains to what I’m about to post, I tried to order a Tintin T-shirt for my son today. Tis a EU company. The shipping costs MORE than the shirt! So, I emptied my cart. The shirt (and a mousepad) were ~ $39. The shipping was $42!

I came home to happy puppies and NO POOP! What a feeling! Lucy is feeling much better too. Last night she was kinda dragging ass again, but today she was playing with Ernie, and rushed to get her dinner.

Mr Rebo worked late, so I made a casserole that he could heat up when he came home.

King Ranch Chicken:

1 chicken, boiled, deboned and shredded
A bunch of corn tortillas (maybe 20?)
About 18 oz shredded Mex cheese blend (1-1/2 pkgs)
1 can Ro-tel tomatoes
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 can cream of mushroom soup

Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix soups and tomatoes. Spread a small amount of soup mixture on bottom of a 13 x 9 baking dish. Layer tortillas (cutting them in half lets you get to the edges of the casserole better,) then chicken, cheese, and soup mixture, then another layer of tortillas, chicken and soup mixture, then one more tortilla layer, and soup and cheese. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes, until cheese is bubbly.

History of the King Ranch.

How were the NOTs, Swampy?

ETA: I’m glad you feel better, rigs. Fever sucks.

ETA2: Mr Rebo and I dated for 5 months before getting engaged, then married fouor months after that. Still very strong after 3 years!

Happy Tuesday all! Yep, I’m very late to the party this week. Busy at work, and still in shock at the (non) ending to The Sopranos.

Happy Birthday Jahdra!! Good luck with your interview, and good luck to Swampy; appropriate appendages still crossed for ya both.

Yay to Kai’s return!! Sounds like you’re still waiting for spring up there, though! How warm does it get during the so-called summer months, Kai? What plants (veggies) are going into your garden? How long will the growing season be? I’m curious!

My patio plants (impatiens and begonias) are doing quite well, especially the white with pink tinge impatiens. I haven’t gotten any herbs yet; will probably get some when I go to the farmer’s market, because they have a couple of vendors who sell potted herbs. I’m going to ask which ones will do well in a shady location. I need to get a few more chairs and tables for my patio; on the weekend, I like to sit out there to drink my coffee and read the paper first thing in the AM.

Well, tomorrow is hump day. Enjoy all!

We had a really nasty thunderstorm roll directly us earlier. Poor Rusty was so freaked that we had to give him one of his Super Knockout Pills. The storm is now long gone, but he’s totally out of it. It’s actually hilarious in a kind of pathetic way – and as Alice pointed out, it’s a good thing he has four feet! – watching him stumbling around trying to remain upright. But better he be punchdrunk on happy pills than scared out of what passes for his mind by a storm, poor baby. :frowning:

I was planning to take tomorrow off and have a nice, lazy day. So what did the reporting firm do, without letting me know in advance that they were doing it, and by the time I found out they’d done it they had long since gone home for the day? They messengered me out another chunk of a congressional [del]drivel session[/del] hearing. It’s due Thursday, which means I can’t take tomorrow off if I don’t want to make them miss their deadline. :frowning: And Congress defaults people on contracts so fast it’ll make your head spin; I suppose if my house burned down they might accept that as an excuse, but otherwise, the rules that apply to the rest of the world don’t apply to them. :frowning:

I like money as well as the next guy, but I like a day off once in a while. I can’t believe they didn’t even ask me first. My rule is: Tell me what work you’re sending me before you send it so I can say yes or no! I’ve sent work back unopened when they violated that rule before, but in this case there’s not enough time. :frowning: And I can’t even claim they did it out of any evilness; they’re just very, very flaky people. Grrr! Time to chew them out again tomorrow. It’ll last for a week or so, and then they’ll be back to their flakiness.

So you looked at all that pretty yarn and didn’t buy me any, gt? Gee, what kind of friend are you?

Back to work. Of course when I have rush deadlines, everything runs long. Grr again.

Thanks for the well wishes, dogbutler, anyrose and gardenbutler. I’ve never had surgery before, so I imagine I will slowly go insane for the next week as my nerves start acting up.

Noone Special - Yes, you have. And they’re fun, too! Well, within reason…

Since no one else has taken this language (Note: it’s been over 10 years since I took French, I doon’t remebmer hwo too spel!):
Bonne Anniversaire, Jahdra.

Oh, and anyrose? I just watched a bunch of rabbits beheading each other with swords. Long live the Bunny Highlander!

And I now so want a ceramic monster with little knitted changeable monster clothes. But where would I put it?

Today’s productivity report: picked up filled-out paperwork from doctor’s office that the insurance people faxed to them. Dropped off un-filled-out paperwork to be completed that the HR people mailed to me. Paid bills. Made dinner using actual food (Yes, I cooked! Make note on your calendars! Prepare to be scoffed at for believing it happened!) I made a chicken-broccoli-mushroom-pasta thing, to use up my mushrooms before they went bad. And it was damn good.

And Shannie just hacked up something icky-sounding, so I gotta pull out the paper towels. I swear he does it on purpose sometimes.
