An Incredible Honor

Mr. S and I are still reeling. Recently we met a friend at a restaurant for dinner; she was bringing along her new friend for us to meet. It was quite a meeting. We all hit it off pretty quickly, and our friend apparently made an impetuous decision to tell us that this woman was much more than a friend. She had recently realized that she was in love with a woman for the first time, and we were the first people she told.

Get that? Our friend chose us to be the very first people she came out to.

Her life has recently been a bit tumultous (understatement alert), and it will be for the near future. Trust is an important issue for her right now in many ways. We only met her a few years ago, and have become gradually much closer over time.

We had no idea how much.

Scarlett67, That’s awesome and it speaks volumes about you as a freind.

Good on you!

Actually it speaks volumes about Mr. S especially – they had discussing her past troubles, which she had been concealing from everyone until just recently, and he said he wished he’d known about it sooner so he could have helped. And then he told her, “You can tell us anything.” So she did. Her girlfriend was floored, but thought it was awesome. The rest of the evening was pretty damn giddy. She’s long overdue for some real happiness.

I only hope it goes as well with the rest of her friends. I think it will – they’re a pretty cool bunch. We talked about that, and in this new phase of her life she agreed that she’ll be finding out who her true friends are. (Don’t know about her family – we haven’t met any of them because they live far away, some overseas.)

At least she knows she’s always safe with us!
