An MMP of Elopement

{{{Soapy & family}}}

Taz decided to love on me all night instead of FCD. The furry little brat was literally in my face when I wouldn’t skritch him in the wee dark hours of the morning. When I woke up around 7, he was literally trapping me in bed, planted on the covers between me and the edge of the bed, and we had no intention of moving. Brat. But I won, since I have opposable thumbs and all that. Plus I had to pee…

So, doggies have been out and fed, I’m caffeinating, the rest of the household is asleep. Starting my day with coughing and congestion and watery eyes - is it going to be one of those day?? blurf.

I do need to divide a couple of my houseplants and water them all. I’ve got a big bag of potting soil and I know where all of my old flower pots are, so I think I’ll be playing in dirt for part of today. I want to take a couple of plants to the office, since I have windows. And I need to wash the cookies sheets I used last night - just couldn’t face it then.

Other than that, hoping for another lazy day. And a successful firing of the new wood stove. Pictures to follow, I hope.

Ivory, I’m so sorry. What a terrible thing to happen.

Morning, everyone. I think we’re going to get the Christmas tree today. But first Mr Rebo wants to go to Sam’s and get another shelving unit. Yesterday, he set up the one we bought a month ago. Unbelievable what a difference it makes! We might have room to bring the motorcycle home from the storage place so he can start working on it! Yay!

And of course, it’s grocery shopping day. I’m gonna go make breakfast now - pigs in a blanket, anyone?

I’ll take on, Rebo. I had toast with cream cheese.

I’m about to go off to church, then it’s back here to finish off the office and do laundry. Envy me.

Back later.

More {{{{{Soapy}}}}}. So sad.

Winter didn’t waste any time when it decided to arrive. Right now it’s 1F! Brrrrrrrrrr!

I have to work again today. Today is actually my Wednesday. My schedule is weird, but hey, I like the job and I get paid for doing it, so I’ll be there.

Off to caffienate.

Good morning my lovely people.

It started snowing last night, but we only accumulated around a couple of inches around my house. There are areas that have more. They expect we might get another inch or two during the morning. It’s not snowing right now, so I don’t expect we’ll see it.

At any rate, the streets and grass are white. I’m sure that will soon be all trampled by the little kids in the neighborhood.

We went and visited with a friend and his girlfriend last night. We had a nice time just chatting and hanging out.

Mama Tigs, I can relate to **Papa Tigs’ **pain on the whole TDY thing.
When I fly to San Antonio my two choices are a flight from Seattle to San Francisco to San Antonio or a flight from Seattle to Denver to San Antonio. On the way back, it’s the same thing. I would much rather fly direct. It used to be I had to fly from Seattle to Dallas to San Antonio.

Hmmm, there really isn’t much going on here. Just the same ol’, same ol’.

{{{Soapy}}} That’s so terrible. Rest in peace, Ray.

I’ve had a nice, lazy, peaceful day thus far. Papa Tigs, bless his heart, woke me up with a cup of coffee, so I sat up and read in bed for a while with Emily on my lap gently purring. I’d still be there if I hadn’t needed to get up and pee. Since then, I’ve been sitting here drinking more coffee and goofing around a bit here and there online. The Idiots are wiped out from a lovely long early morning play at the school yard, so everybody’s being lazy except for Papa Tigs, who’s been packing for his trip. It’s supposed to be nice and warm in San Antonio, so that does make his packing easier; lighter weight clothes take up less room.

In an amusing note, Papa Tigs had sent in a check paying the full balance on a credit card we have, and somehow overlooked at $3.56 minimum payment due from the previous month. So he got a call yesterday about his late payment. Needless to say, the guy who called was rather embarrassed to have to do it, but it still was ridiculous, IMO. Although nothing will ever be as ridiculous as the $0.01 bill I received from a doctor’s office many years ago. I taped a penny to the bill and mailed it back; they sent me back my penny with a note of apology. It was quite amusing.

Not much else is going on here today if we can help it. Back to puttering at whatever. Maybe even a bit of work; $$ is always nice.

Well, good morning y’all! I got up at six to let the cat out and it was kinda cold but didn’t even look like there was frost on the ground. So I went back to bed until eight and when I looked out I saw this. Reactions have been mixed–Bear is delighted and enthused (duh, LABRADOR, hello!) by this new meteorological wonder and is trying to get somebody, ANYBODY to go play in it with him. Widget is all “Oh gods, this again? Too cold, too early, lemme just pee and be done with this so I can get a nap on my warm bed please!” Pratchett was yowling so I let him out on his leash and it was all like “SCHNOW, SCHNOW, WOOHOO, YEEHAW… uuuuhhhh… coldcoldwetcoldwetcoldLEMME IN LEMME IN LEMME IN NOW!!” and Stiggs the old hand is “Yeah. Ok. Whatevah.” I’m gonna finish my coffee, put on my schnow gear and go ride my bike with the doggies, they’ll love it. Riding a bike in snow is interesting but fun!

Mornin’… errrr… afternoon everybody.

{{Soapy}} I’m so very sorry for your loss. :frowning:

SmartyPants, I think we stole your PNW weather (or maybe you stole our snow)… it’s warm-ish and rainy today, which is not at all proper for mid-December in Toronto.

Last night was our big holiday party and thankfully, it looks like both the house and its occupants survived unscathed. I’m feeling exhausted though… I spent the whole day cooking and baking and tidying and setting up and stuff. I made tons of dips and spreads, brie in phyllo dough, little phyllo ratatouille cups, thai chicken meatballs, a gorgeous antipasto and cheese platter, a crockpot of mulled cider and three kinds of cookies.

Aside from a couple of beers spilled on the kitchen floor and a burnt batch of crostini, all went well. We have more dips and cookies and beer left over than we know what to do with… maybe I should throw another party next weekend?

Also, we asked every guest to bring some non-perishables to donate to the food bank instead of the usual hostess gifts. We managed to collect quite a large pile of food from our guests, which I’m extremely happy about, since the food bank has been struggling to keep up with demand lately.

Sooo, all in all, a big success. We’re going to play lazy today, I think.

The stove is installed and heating. In 45 minutes, it raised the temp in the garage from 46 to about 58. I am impressed.

Pics. There are 4 - flip thru them all if you wish.

Vacuumed. Cleared out some files. Ate lunch. Want stove. And leftovers from Muppet’s party.

Off to do more stuff.

GT

Thank you all for your hugs and good wishes. It really does help.

I am officially done with young people I care about dying unexpectedly. Can this be done now?

Muppet I cannot wrap my mind around the idea of there being too much beer and cookies left. I’ve never had such an experience. I can’t imagine even havin’ such an experience! Good on ya about the non-perishable food idea! I take a few items to church each week for one of the local food pantries. It’s an on-goin’ ministry of my church to take non-perishable food items on a weekly basis.

Twelve people enjoyed pre-lunch bloody mary’s and then a fine (if’n I do say so myself!) lunch of lasagna rolls, seven layer sallit, garlic bread and cake. The kitchen is even all cleaned up and there’s lasagna rolls and sallit leftover for dindin Tuesday night. Tomorrow night is men’s night at church so we will be consuming steak, N.O.T., sallit, biskits and of course beerverages there for dindin.

Part of me says go take a nap but most of me says no it’s too late in the afternoon to go nappy poo. I’m afraid I wouldn’t want to go to sleep tonight and tomorrow is worktime after all.

All youse people with snow… keep it all there ok?

Hey swampus, did you post the recipe for the lasagna rolls and I just missed it? Because it sounds cool…

You’re welcome, Soapy, just wish it wasn’t necessary to pass on all those hugs, y’know? How old was Ray, anyway?

I know something for sure now–Bear’s already faulty brakes are completely inoperative in snow. We went out to chuck a ball and he overran every single one of them while sliding on his butt, then couldn’t manage to find a snowcovered ball in snow. Widget, on the other hand, is an old veteran at this snow stuff and handily snaked every throw away from Bear, to the smug delight of one and the intense frustration of the other. Also, riding a bike in snow is fun but very tiring! And Bear shows his husky heritage in that the snow does not stick to him at all–one shake and he’s clean. Widget appreciates the towel treatment, however.

My dear daughter is wishing as hard as she can for a snow day tomorrow, everybody help her out, 'kay? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve got a pot of 15-bean soup going. It has a leftover hambone in it. Mmm. A pan of cornbread and we’re set!

I’m also gonna try Guy Fieri’s recipe that was on this morning - Pear Pineapple Strudel. Looks pretty easy. The only thing is, I don’t have any rum. The sauce calls for 1 tbs rum. Do you think I could substitute bourbon?

I had me some leftover turkey noodle soup. I expect that’ll be my lunch all week. But that’s fine - it’s good.

Mebbe some ice cream later. Other than that, my weekend is over.

The stove in the garage/shop worked great. It got to about 70 in there within 2 hours, and **FCD **was able to work comfortably all afternoon. And if he ever decides he doesn’t want a workshop, having the stove out there means it could become a billiards room… or other things…

I have this mental picture of MOOOOOM hangin’ over a pool table, cuestick in hand, cigarette danglin’ out of her mouth, takin’ a swig of beer out of a longneck bottle and callin’ her shots whilst hustlin’ the neighbors. It’s a fun world inside my haid!

SmartiePants I posted a link to Lasagna Rolls (or Lasagna Rollups) back on page three. However, since I am especially nice dammit, I will do so again. No need to thank me. It’s my pleasure. Plus, the dang things, while time consumin’ as all get out to make, are goooooooooooooooooood!

Can I kill Papa Tigs? Please? Pretty please?

Why, you may ask? He needs some business cards. He goes out and buys some card stock, and sits down at his computer. Starts cursing. Claims he can’t find a template. I point out that both Word and WordPerfect (both on his computer as well as mine) offer templates, and I’d be happy to do it for him. No, he wants to do it himself, goddamn it. After considerable more cursing and yelling at me not to go so fast, goddamn it, I get him to the template in Word. It’s acting weird. More cursing. I finally try it in WordPerfect on my computer, works perfectly. I finally, finally persuade him to just let me effing do it, already, goddamn it!

Sigh. Then he turns sweet and delightful and apologizes because he was “frustrated.” But he wouldn’t stop for 30 seconds to listen to me – apparently he doesn’t consider the fact that maybe I’m a little frustrated, too! There are holes in my tongue to prove it – you would be very proud of me!

I must say I am definitely ready for a few days apart. Even though 99.9% of the time when he gets upset, it’s over something far too minor to be worth getting that upset about, he’s just been wound up tighter than a drum lately. He needs to just away from that zoo of a hospital for a few days and regain some perspective! I really wish he could find a less stressful job; he loves all the pressure, but it can’t be good for him in the long run. At least I can take comfort in the fact that if his job drives him to a heart attack, he’s in a hospital so he’ll get prompt care.

Anyway, I got his business cards all done and they look great if I do say so myself, so I’m going to go put my feet up and watch mindless TV for a while. Later, gators!

My car is weird. Earlier, when I got here, it decided to ding at me when I opened the door with the key out of the ignition, exactly as if I’d left the lights on. But the lights weren’t on. I just went out to check on it, being paranoid, and it’s fine. In fact, it started right up (an achievement for an 11-year-old car in the cold we’re having!). But once I turned it back off…the dinging didn’t start up again when I pulled the key out.

Is it trying to drive me crazy? Does it know this is exactly the wrong week to make me paranoid?

Also, I have a really dirty mind. I horrified my poor young (barely 21, mature for her age but I still feel ancient next to her) coworker by giggling madly when she told me she had somebody on the line who wanted to cancel because “she doesn’t want to come with less than 10 inches.”

I would have answered… “Ma’am I can understand that but why do you want to cancel your reservation with us?”

I forgot to mention earlier that I have homemade divinity. I got it at church this mornin’. There’s this couple who make the nummiest divinity I have ever tasted. This mornin’ the wifely part of the couple handed me a bag with two tins of divinity, one for me and one for ol’ y’all know who. She told me she put the exact same amount of divinity in each tin just so we wouldn’t fight with each other. I told her that was fine but did she measure and weigh each piece to make sure they were all exactly the same. She got really, really, tickled. After church she told me that all during the service she got giggles every time she thought about what I said. I live to make other people’s day… what can I say!

My life sucks.
