An obscure sound card driver needed!

I’ve exhausted my google-fu skills, and I still can’t find what I’m looking for.

Anyway, the short backstory is that my onboard sound through the motherboard isn’t working anymore, so I dusted off a jurrasic-era computer in my parents’ garage and cannibalized the sound card from it.

Can anyone help me find the drivers to get it running? It’s a Yamaha brand, model number YMF724F-V. There are a couple of promising hits toward the top of the google search list, but they all turn out to be nothing at the end. The Yamaha site doesn’t support that model anymore, so there’s no luck finding drivers there.

Anyway, if someone knows of a place where I can find drivers for ancient hardware, I’d appreciate help. Thanks in advance!

Did you find this one at Driverguide? - It says it supports a card with the same model number as yours, but without the -V suffix - I’d think this would be a fairly safe bet.

You don’t say what OS you need it for - the above is for Win9x. In case you’re having trouble downloading the file from Driverguide (perhaps if you don’t have an account there), I’ve mirrored the file here:
http://www.atomicshrimp.com/stuff/yamaha_dsxg_driver.exe

(please note that this is just the file I downloaded from DriverGuide - I make no promises about it).

I’ll delete the copy from my server after a week, or sooner if you let me know when/if you’ve downloaded it.

Try this, assuming you have XP. If it doesn’t work, you can always uninstall it. Just to be safe, set a Restore Point first, since I can’t vouch for the safety of the download.

You need to be careful of the sites that store old drivers. I find many of them try to infect your computer with a virus. Don’t let them execute scripts or install anything. Not all sites are like this, but enough are to need you to be careful.

Thanks for the help guys. I’ll try to work it out tomorrow, and let you know how it goes.

Mangetout, the first link eventually led to a “file not found” error. The one you hosted led to a 2 file download, one with 0 bytes and one that wasn’t recognized when I tried to use it as a driver.

Q.E.D., the link you posted wanted me to spend 5 dollars before I could start the download.

Thanks for trying to help, guys, but I guess this thing is going to be impossible to find.

Looks like the drivers you want are for the Yamaha DS1. Driver Guide shows this as the WDM version for W2K (should be good for XP as well). You can also Google for the XG50 sound card which uses the same chip.
