Small game going on the Cstrike server at the moment if anyone wants to join up.
CS is a very frustrating game sometimes. The fact of the matter is, I’m not really convinced of cheating most of the time. Sure speed hacks are obvious, wall hacks can be spotted with some observation, but more than that is really hard to tell.
The plain fact of the matter is that many many non-cheaters get headshots with pistols from across the map. I’ve done it several times myself. Then when you start talking about sniping with the AK or the M4, forget about it. Once you learn the skills of burst firing and even single shots with those weapons, instant kills are very common. It can be frustrating when you’re on the other end of it.
I’d emplore you not to cry cheater to quickly. Many many times I’ll be in the zone and get amazing kills or i’ll go toe to toe with someone who basically unloads a full clip and I take them down in a shot or two. I can just imagine what that looks like from their end.
Just as an example (and a little hint), on the “back door” stairs on office, terrorists can make it to the top of the stairs before CTs can get to the bottom/sliding door. If you have an AK and you line up from the top of the stairs you can take out CTs as they turn around the corner and look up in a head shot NEARLY EVERY TIME. Something about the angle of the shot coming from the higher ground just lines up a headshot everytime.
Imagine this: you and 3 other CTs spawn and instantly start running down the garage. You all turn the corner to storm the stairs. BLAM blam-blam BLAM BLAM. All four of you are dead, 3 by headshots. The terrorist runs down the stairs, through the empty garage to the CT spawn. He comes up behind the last 2 CTs and kills them before they’re halfway up the ladder to go through the far window.
WTF!?!?! CHEATER!!! Aim-bot? Wallhack? Speedhack?
The server is now upgraded (hopefully, if it works) to the admin mod that allows commands such as /ff /nextmap /rank etc. Thanks to Jayrot for finding this - I sat on it for a week, having glanced over it, and didn’t notice that it was what I Was looking for.

Well, steam is swamped and the server isn’t updating… it’ll take a while before we have CS:S again. The DM server works fine, however, so we could have an SDMB game of DM if anyone was interested.
Took a while but the CS server is back up.

I looked at the server last night after the upgrade and at first ‘My Favourite Servers’ told me you were off line. Then, a while later, it came back with a latentcy of over 1000. I can’t remember if it was the Death Ray server or another server, but I couldn’t connect because of a difference in versions. So, I played with myself against a few bots. The bots are good, much better than CZ bots.
Yeah, the server was having a weird 3 minute period of severe lag when you popped on. It cleared up, but by then you were gone.
We’ve had maybe 4-5 lag spikes of that nature of the last few weeks, and I’m not sure why. When I check the CPU utilization, bandwidth utilization, ping times to websites, etc. nothing seems unusual.
Huh. On further investigation, the idle, empty DM server was eating up 60% of the CPU on one server for no apparent reason. Down until I figure that out.
We should exchange aim/yahoo messenger/msn info… It only takes 2 of us to start a game, and this way we can coordinate that.

90% of the time my away messages have nothing to do with whatever I’m up to at the moment or if I’m even away instead of just feeling antisocial, so message away.

Yes, I had never been the one guy left who had to defuse a bomb…and it went off in my face (although the timing was tight…).
I actually got a couple of kills before I left, but for me to have such a low kill/death ratio you must all be HaXors!!!111one!!! 
I need to practice some more with those damn bots (or maybe play more often than once every couple of weeks!)

Of course, that doesn’t factor in the 2-3 SDMB players hugely better than me that don’t wear their tag. Still, I wanted to brag a little during my brief moment on the sort-of top.
There are so many players in the 995-1005 skill range that when I had 970 skill a week ago I was ranked like 800th, then improved that to 1070 and jumped to like 40th. I’ve improved it further still a bit.
Anyone up for an afternoon game? Or whatever time it happens to be right now where you are…
