An SDMB server: calling all Counter-Strike:Source players!

But I am #1 with the TMP. I need to keep working that gun.

And I’m a lot worse than they make me look. You guys start too late for an old guy like me. I need my beauty sleep. I keep checking the server, seeing no one, and running for an alternate server. Maybe I should solo it, in order to improve my stats

I admit that I have done that. Play as a T when it is a bomb map and play as a CT when it is a hostage rescue map. If you are alone, you can’t lose!! Unless you grenade youself.

I have been playing with bots recently and I now need to up their skill level to help myself improve.

I don’t think soloing like that would improve your stats - the game mode doesn’t actually start until there are two players on opposite sides.

Well you’ve certainly got a healty number of kills, but don’t you think that K : D ratio is a much better indicator?

I wonder: what is exactly is that skill rating based on? You have 87 more kills than me, but 191 more deaths.

I’m not sure what skill includes, exactly, but it includes such things as bomb planting, hostages rescuing, defusing, and takes into account the skill of the people you killed. Killing the number one ranked person gives more skill than killing someone ranked 500th. So even if we had the same amount of kills, my skill could be much higher because of that, and because of the other factors.

Also, you’ve logged more hours than me but have less kills, and the rate my factor.

I’m willing to play when I get home from work (about 5:30 PST). I’ve missed out on the last couple sessions, so I feel a bit out of it (though I notice I’ve played for about 26hrs total).

Rate may factor, that should be.

Also, you suck.

That’s pretty nifty!

Woah, the stats page is fickle.

I was ranked in the top 20, then I had 2 okay rounds (about 1:1 k:d) and 2 bad rounds (got my ass kicked) and I dropped from like 1200 to 900 skill. There’s no way 2 bad rounds offset my skill level that much… I mean, my k:d dropped from 1.00 to .99, big deal. Yet the skill loss is huge.

I wonder what’s going on with that.

Beefy, maybe you got your ass whooped by n00bs?
I played with the CS: S bots last night. Heaps better than the CS: CZ bots, but… I miss the CZ bots’ chatter:

“I’m camping at A”
“Me too!”
“Arghhhhh! I need help here!!”
“Good shot sir”
“Owned!!!”
and let’s not forget… “I am DANGEROUS!!!”

Surely they could’ve added that :stuck_out_tongue:

Max.

Haha. Now you question the stats program.

Yeah, there’s something a little strange there. For one thing I’m the #1 SDMB player! Buckgully is certainly better than me if you look at the stats. He’s got 2.0 K: D ratio compared to my 1.14. Not to mention mske is ranked #3 and he’s at .68 K: D (no offense mske!)

It must have to do with the weighting of ranking of players you kill. We were playing for a while with “Agent Plisskin” who is ranked overall as #2 (85-18). I killed him a number of times (possibly as much as 10). If it does figure skill like that, I probably got a huge boost from killing the #2 ranked player so many times.

I say we only focus on (for general bragging purposes at least), the Kill to Death ratio. It’s always been the traditional standard in Counter-Strike.
On another note, let’s hear it for Inle-Rah, poised to be the first to break the 1000 mark!

[ahem, he’s already passed in a different catagory].

By the way, although Dust2 is the worst offender in terms of CT/T win record, Terrorists have only won on Dust2 58% of the time. All maps put together, Terrorists win 52% of the time (2545/4877), so it’s only a deviation of 6%

Well, in the rounds where I got my ass kicked, we’re talking about a total of getting killed maybe 30 times… 30 times compared to my 700 kills and deaths or whatever I have is insignificant and certainly shouldn’t swing my skill that much.

I can only guess maybe it ranks skill based on the last X days, rather than in total.

I’ll look through the documentation.

My bad about dust. For some reason I had it in my head that there was at least a 1.5:1 ratio… I can attempt to balance dust2 somehow… you can create server config files that execute on a per-map basis… so I could, for instance, turn the bomb timer on only dust2 up to a minute, to give CTs a bit of an edge.

Alright you dirty, dirty hippies… game on.

Good news.

I’ve been hesitant about using bots because they could dilute the purity of the stats… but I found an option in the stats program that will ignore bot-related stuff.

There’s also a bot_quota command… so you can set it up for 8 players/bots, and if you have 2 players, you’ll get 6 bots… and when a player joins, a bot leaves… we could use that to try to encourage games to start up.

Wow! I had a 2:1 kill ratio? Weird. I didn’t think it was that good last time I played, and I haven’t played in a while.

Those Dust2 stats are interesting. What I’d really like to see is a graph of wins per number of players. Dust2 is pretty even when there are only a few players on, but if there are more than about 10 players per side then it gets a lot harder for the CTs.

Though that new map we played last night, tides? tidal? whatever, it may take the prize for most unbalanced map. Way too many routes for the CTs to give proper cover. The only way we (CTs) could win was to incessantly camp the CT spawn.

Game going now. Feel free to pop on.
