Quite precocious, she can play games, but cheatsat paper, rock and scissors. Just don’t call her on it.
Grandma from Taiwan, Ama, had to go home, so we’re having to be real parents now. That third pair of hands will be missed, especially since that pair did most of the cooking and lots of the cleaning.
It’s also amazing how much time babies take up. Where did all that free time go? My wife and I joke that two months ago, no one would ever believe that I could shower quickly or go to bed before 10, or that she could learn to eat quickly. You really have to get things done when you can.
Unfortunately, it’s eaten up my Dope time, and I haven’t been around as much. There’s only one time in your child’s life that she’s a baby, and that commands priority.
Not meant to be a cheesy, snarky grin at all, just pure pleasure at your joy. She is beautiful and quite the ham for the camera! Love the smile and the peek-a-boo look. Glad all is well.
Aww, she just gets cuter and cuter, and she already started so far ahead of the curve!! Thanks for the update – I’d actually been wondering how things were going, but 11 and 8 years later, I haven’t forgotten how demanding those early weeks and months are! You might want to look into yoga so that you don’t get muscle spasms from being wrapped around that adorable little finger of hers!
The time thing - believe it or not - gets worse when they get mobile- they sleep less and need to be watched closer. This lasts until - maybe 3 1/2 - when a small amount of common sense and all of the “No!” you’ve been screaming starts to take hold.
Then you start slowly getting your life back until one day you realize your kid has been gone for three days at sleepovers.
Well put.
Please keep the updates coming! I look forward to when betachan takes over the world and I can say, " Oh yeah, well, I knew her when she was cheating at Rock, Paper, Scissors!"
I noticed something similar when a friend of mine had a baby (said podling is now 13 months old). I would have assumed the first face they learned to make was “smiling”. Turns out the first one down the pike is actually “what the hell”.
Takes some getting used to when a baby that can’t walk, talk, eat solid food or (for the first few weeks) hold its own head up or roll over is the one looking at you like you’re an utter retard.
I saw a billboard advertising the OB/GYN unit at a local hospital. It showed a woman cradling a baby in her arms, while her husband looks adoringly over her shoulder.
The caption was, “Now I know why they call it making love.”
Congrats on the tot, and enjoy thoroughly this time, because it will be gone before you know it.
It really is. The changes have been tremendous, really unbelievable. The first purposeful smiles are such a high. Being a parent just seems to call out a greater sense of responsibility.
We were quite lucky to have Ama here for the first almost two months. It gave a transition into the world of parenting without dumping everything all at once. This week, the first since Ama left, has been hard on my wife since she’s the one breastfeeding around the clock and the bulk of the burden falls on her.
I do all that I can, which is a reason I’m not posting much lately, but I have to go to work, and leave her there. Anya wants to be held all day, even when she sleeps. My wife only get a breaks at a few minutes at a time. I hope that once Beta-chan get used to Ama not being around that things will settle down more.
Still, we are really lucky to have a healthy baby. Being adorable is just an added bonus.
