I’ve mentioned my cubicle neighbor who tends to expound on anything and everything, regardless of his knowledge base. Naturally, all of the terrorism in the news gives him plenty to spew forth. The most memorable is connected with his personal analysis of why terrorists are willing to commit suicide.
According to the sage, the terrorists believe that they will be rewarded in the afterlife with 70 virgins.
His comment: “Why 70? Why not 50?” :rolleyes:

You know how when you buy olive oil, or if you’re somewhat akin to me, see it on the grocer’s shelf, and it says “Extra Virgin”? You know what that means? It means you have two. (Bwa-hahahaha! I crack me up!)

What I failed to include in my OP was the continuation of his question, to the effect of “Why would they need 70? Shouldn’t 50 virgins be enough for one man?”
Oh, and just today, he was going on and on about how “the Jews don’t believe Jesus was a person” (his word). The guy brings to mind Archie Bunker, only lots worse. Not only does he not fight ignorance - I believe he wallows in it.
Very misogynist, but as we have seen there are dangers in taking holy books too literally. For example, the book of Judges tells a story of 400 virgins being left alive after the tribes of Israel destroyed utterly one of their neighbors. These women were given as gifts to one of the tribes.
[tongue in cheek] Personally speaking… dividing my time 70 ways, having 70 to-do lists, remembering 70 birthdays, and coping with 70 sexually repressed and unknowledgeable women is my of idea of an afterlife that is not quite heaven. If god is listening, I would like just a small handful of promiscuous swimsuit models.[/tongue in cheek]
